Adam "Pacman" Jones
Police believe cash belonged to Tennessee Titans cornerback

A topless dancer promoter took a trash bag full of NFL player Adam "Pacman" Jones' cash and fled the Minxx strip club early Monday, leading to a brawl and shooting that injured three people, one critically, according to a search warrant obtained Wednesday by the Review-Journal.

jh0shea, Friday, 23 February 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)

The search warrant, issued Monday in District Court, was for Chris Mitchell's room at the Silverton casino and hotel. Mitchell, who has been interviewed by police, had promoted a four-day event at Minxx for the NBA All-Star weekend. He had brought in dancers from his Houston-based strip club, Harlem Knights, to perform at the 4636 Wynn Road venue, near Tropicana Avenue and Valley View Boulevard.

Las Vegas police recovered more than $81,000 in cash from Mitchell's room that investigators believe belonged to Jones, a 23-year-old cornerback for the Tennessee Titans. They also recovered a brown cloth bag and two Breitling watches, but it was not clear who owned those items.

The search warrant also shed light on some missing details about what happened inside the strip club before the 5 a.m. shooting occurred.

Cornelius Haynes Jr., better known as the rapper Nelly, and rapper Jermaine Dupri, were also at the club and sitting with Jones's entourage in the VIP section, the warrant stated.

Haynes had tossed hundreds of $1 bills on the stripper stage, an action known in street slang as "making it rain," and Jones joined in.

An announcer told all the dancers to go to the center stage, and about 40 strippers soon were on the stage.

Mitchell told the strippers from his Houston club to pick up the money, which apparently was only supposed to be used for visual effect, the warrant stated.

One of the dancers than took the trash bag filled with Jones' money and a "melee broke out. Jones became irate about the loss of his money, and the fact that girls were in a frenzy, picking up the money at their feet," the warrant stated.

Mitchell took the bag of cash and left the club.

Inside was chaos.

A woman with Jones, Sadia Morrison, was soon fighting with a stripper. Bouncers rushed in.

"Jones became extremely irate, telling security to back off and 'don't touch his girls,' " the warrant stated.

Jones soon engaged the bouncers who were trying to break up the scuffle, according to the warrant. "Jones challenged security and reached behind his back as if he were retrieving a weapon there," the warrant stated.

The bouncers were able to move Jones out of the club and turned their attention to Morrison, who was biting security and screaming. "Sadia (Morrison) picked up a champagne bottle and hit one security guard, Aaron Cudworth, in the head with it," according to the warrant.

Morrison was soon tossed out of the club.

A few minutes later, outside the club, a man with a cornrow hairdo fired a semi-automatic handgun, striking Cudworth, security guard Tom Urbanski and a female customer.

No arrests have been made.

A Metropolitan Police Department source has said an associate of Jones might have been the triggerman. "We think the link is strong, but we haven't been able to verify it," the source said Tuesday.

During an interview with detectives, Mitchell said he took Jones' money because he thought it was for the dancers, according to the warrant.

Cudworth, who was shot in the chest and arm, was released from University Medical Center on Tuesday.

Urbanski remained at UMC in critical condition. He was expected to live, but a bullet severed his spine and paralyzed him below the waist, his father said.

Minxx co-owner Rob Susnar said Tuesday that Jones had come into the club with the shooter and was sitting with him.

Susnar said when one of the strippers started grabbing the money without Jones' permission, he got angry, grabbed her hair and slammed her head against the stage.

Susnar also accused Jones of threatening Cudworth's life as he tried to break up the fight. A melee ensued as Cudworth scuffled with Jones and members of his entourage, Susnar said.

Jones' lawyer, Worrick G. Robinson, on Wednesday reiterated that Jones disputes that account.

"I've tried to explain my understanding of what occurred. I think it really speaks for itself, and I don't have anything else to add," Robinson said. "We will let Metro continue with their investigation, and we anticipate their findings will be consistent with our investigation."

In the meantime, Jones has left Las Vegas, Robinson said.

Robinson has been in communication with the investigating detectives and said Jones will be available to police if they need him.

Detectives interviewed Jones on Monday about his time at Minxx.

Robinson said Jones is not a suspect in the shooting.

Make It Rain, But No Refunds

By now, you've heard about Pacman Jones' adventures in a Las Vegas strip club this past weekend.

I read this article over and over trying to sort out this bizarre story because it just made absolutely no sense.

One sentence jumped out at me:

"a scuffle broke out when the Houston promoter who hired the strippers told them to pick the money up."

Why were strippers fighting over money in the club? A strip club is not a lawless place. There are rules. There is code. Dancers do their work and collect their payment in orderly fashion. Something else must have jumped off for the environment in that club to get to that point. There was more to the wire story than met the eye. Pacman Jones is lying.

So I convened a small panel of strip club "experts" and sources that were actually in Clubb Minxx at the time of the incident. There is an important back story that was not conveyed in the news stories. Let me break it down for you. Hopefully, this is less confusing than the wire stories.

Minxx Gentleman's Club was being "rented" out for All Star Weekend by Chris Mitchell. He owns Harlem Knights, a strip club in Houston. In the stripper world, it is common for strippers to travel all over the country in search of the biggest payday. For example, many girls from Detroit fly down here to Atlanta every weekend to work in the clubs. Not to mention, girls often travel for special events. The idea is to cover your expenses from the trip and make good money for a couple of days work.

So, Mr. Mitchell induced dozens of the dancers from his club in Houston to go to Vegas for the weekend. A no-brainer right? All the big spenders would be in Vegas. And Mr. Mitchell's plan to position a "Black" strip club (i.e., appropriate music, body types, performing styles, etc.) near the Las Vegas Strip would be a slam dunk.

Well, things didn't go as planned. For the girls dancing, Minxx was a dud. They weren't making any money. The girls traveled to Vegas at their own expense and many of them were in a financial hole for the weekend. By the time Sunday night came around, many of the girls had gone back to Texas and the ones that were left were angry and pissed about how the weekend had gone for them financially.

So, enter Pacman Jones and his crew. Pacman comes into the club with $81,000 in cash planning to "make it rain" on the strippers. A note about "making it rain." "Making it rain" is when you hold a stack of bills in one hand and use the fingers of the other hand to peel off bills one at a time in rapid fashion and/or throw out small increments of bills out on strippers. The bills float in the air, creating the effect of raining money. This is usually done with stacks of single dollar bills for effect. It's just a very elaborate way of paying the dancer. You show off to the other guys in the club, you objectify the dancer, etc. It's a pretty common practice. It's not new at all, although the act as been recently popularized by the Fat Joe song, "Make it Rain."

Back to Pacman with his $81,000. $81,000 is A LOT of money to make it rain with. If he was using $1 bills, that means he had 810 stacks with him. 810 stacks of dollar bills! Way too much just to accomplish a little rain.

Although the wire story says that Jones was raining on 40 dancers, a source from inside the club says the stage was empty. The DJ announced for the dancers to come out to the front of the club. The girls, in the red for the weekend, saw dollar bills covering the stage. And they went for theirs. According to an inside source, a stripper riot broke out. Pacman was sitting right by the stage and the girls fighting over the money fell off the stage into Jones' entourage. That's when the scuffle began. Pacman and his crew started fighting GIRLS.

The girls were fighting over money they "thought" was theirs. In fact, this is confirmed in the wire story. Mitchell says he told the girls to pick the money up off the stage, thinking it was their compensation. Mitchell, according to the warrant, "admits that he took the money in the bag belonging to Jones because he thought it was for the dancers."

And it was for the dancers.

Pacman Jones said that the money recovered from Chris Mitchell belongs to him and that the showering of bills was "intended only for visual effect."

And let me just say that is a motherfucking lie.

Making it rain is for visual effect, but it unequivocally constitutes payment. And the rain does not issue credits! You can't make it rain in the club and then pick your money off the floor and be like, "Whew, that was fun!" That money was payment for the dancers. Jones is a scumbag for pretending like he got robbed. He wasn't robbed. He just thinks he's entitled to some sort of refund. (Don't be confused by the seizure of the Breitling watches. They likely just belong to the manager.)

There are only two explanations for Jones' behavior:

1. He is a complete bama (i.e., a hick that doesn't know how to carry himself.) This is unlikely. Jones is from Atlanta. If there is anyone who is expected to know strip club etiquette, it is a person from the ATL, the all-nude stripping capital of the country. (How do you think I know so much?)

2. That motherfucker was tweaked out of his mind. That's the only explanation for such an altered sense of reality. Let me reiterate. No one "makes it rain" and then expects his money back. It doesn't work like that. He could be a complete imbecile, but he was probably high and/or drunk to "rain" $81,000 and think that the money still belonged to him.

I hope the police did a drug test on that motherfucker.

Pacman has hired the same law firm that defended Ray Lewis (who pleaded out for no reason) and Jamal Lewis (who did jail time). Not that he has anything to hide or anything.

this part i thought couldve been emphasized a bit more

Pacman was sitting right by the stage and the girls fighting over the money fell off the stage into Jones' entourage. That's when the scuffle began. Pacman and his crew started fighting GIRLS

Drug Dealer's Recorded Calls Mention Pacman's Troubles
Feb 27, 2007 12:11 AM

Adam "Pacman" Jones was at the scene of a triple shooting at a Las Vegas Strip Club a week ago and although police said he is only a witness there are allegations he knows the shooter and may have started the mle.

Exclusive conversations from a drug investigation revealed more into Jones' association with trouble.

In March, 2006 Metro Police announced some major drug arrests. A lot of the evidence for the arrests was from conversations police had taped with different dealers. Although Jones faced no charges in connection with the investigation, his name was mentioned in the taped recordings.

In one of Metro's largest busts to date, the drug trafficking investigation netting nearly 2,000 pounds of drugs, nine major arrests and more than 20 vehicles; the most noticeable was a Cadillac linked to Jones.

Jones faced no charges in the drug investigation. The car wasn't registered to him and was apparently borrowed for a rap video.

Jones' buddy convicted drug dealer Darryl Moore was the center of the investigation and now his conversations may be very telling of Jones' own problems.

"We gotta slow down, man. We gotta get him focused on football, man. He's focused on too much other s****," Moore said.

NewsChannel 5 obtained wiretapped phone conversations between Moore and his friends. In one conversation he talked about Jones throwing his money into gambling, putting thousands of dollars on college games to make a quick buck.

Moore, a convicted Felon now facing another round of hard time, actually worried Jones was spiraling out of control.

Moore said he cared about his friend and how all of his habit could affect his career.

"You know, I was talkin' to him the other day about smokin', and he was like man, if I didn't smoke I couldn't take all the stress that I'm dealing with right now,'" Moore said.

Moore also talked about Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher who he said visited Jones at home.

"Fisher's being as patient as a m*****f***** as he can. Fisher gotta win. Fisher trying to win...He ain't putting up with that s***," Moore said.

The Titans have said in the past they've talked to Jones. Lawyers and judges have certainly counseled him as well.

"He gotta concentrate on season...that ******* drug test coming up," he said. "We telling him he needed 33 days before he took his ******* test; dry-out, and he didn't...that's let me know right there that he ain't taking his ****** job serious."

Jones faced no charges in connection with the drug arrests. He has not been charged with anything in the Vegas incident.

However, Moore has been indicted and will face trial next month.

Titans management has not commented specifically on Jones future with the team except to say they have talked about it, will talk to Pacman and there is always the potential of letting him go.
