let's see if we can recap the story so far:

adalius thomas - PATRIOT
nate clements & michael lewis - NINERS
ahman green - TEXAN
leonard davis - COWBWOYZ
london fletcher-baker - REDSKIN
ovie mughelli - FALCON
drew bennett - RAMZ
eric steinbach - BROWNIE (r.i.p. steinbach's career)
dre bly - BRONCO
wes welker - PATRIOT (wtf)
travis henry - BRONCO
jeff garcia - SUCCANEER
a bunch of other dudes - WHO CARES

apparently lance briggs is really pissed and wants outta chicago. go for it, pats! you know you want to!!!!!!!! also, are there any dudes you guys want your teams to go after? imo joe horn should be a falcon.

cankles, Monday, 5 March 2007 22:50 (eighteen years ago)

Dielman - STILL A CHARGER
Lelie - 49ERz
Tatum Bell - LIONS

Oakland Mike, Monday, 5 March 2007 23:56 (eighteen years ago)

oh yeah, and george foster's a lion now too. lol. enjoy your lelie, SF! i didnt count dielman as a move, since he didn't go anywhere.

the falcons made ovie mughelli the highest paid FB in league history last week, replacing Justin Griffith. at first i was unsure cuz griff is a helluva player, but they replaced him with the only other guy who can compete for title of best young FB in the league. griff is more of a running and catching FB while ovie is a more powerful drive-blocker, which is probably what this team needed. so i'm cautiously optimistic. oakland mike are you polyphonic~~~

cankles, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 00:31 (eighteen years ago)

Should I be excited about NATE CLEMENTS?

Leee, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 00:56 (eighteen years ago)

OMG Thomas Jones to the Jets for a pick!

Nate Clements is real good, but not most-money-of-any-defensive-player good.

Yeah I'm polyphonic.

Oakland Mike, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 01:10 (eighteen years ago)

i didnt count dielman as a move, since he didn't go anywhere.

It's true, but I was so, so happy that he re-signed.

Oakland Mike, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 01:11 (eighteen years ago)

In exchange, New England sent an undisclosed draft picks to Miami. SI.com is reporting that the Patriots are sending their 2007 second- and seventh-round draft picks to Miami in exchange for Welker.

Holy crap, a SECOND ROUND PICK for Welker? That is insanity.

Oakland Mike, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 01:14 (eighteen years ago)

NE getting Adelius Thomas could be huge. That dude is a freak and I think Mr. Bill will probably be using him in many different ways in their defense. Personally, I hope that now that Thomas has a big contract he spends it all at Krispy Creme.

Jerry Jones must be on some crack or that Cardinals lineman is way underrated. It seemed to me the Cards were not exactly the bellweather of the NFL on protecting the QB or running the ball.

Dre Bly and Champ Bailey is a pretty impressive pair of corners for a club to have.

Everybody and their brother wants to leave the Bears. Considering the McCaskey family, I can't say I blame them.

Rumor has the Bengals going for Joey Porter. That sounds like a real calming presence to add to the locker room.

earlnash, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 03:01 (eighteen years ago)

patrick kerney - SEAHAWK

adalius thomas is basically gonna take up the mcginest role imo. i'm not expecting him to work magic but he's definately an upgrade for that LB group. the wes welker thing is totally mystifying. a SECOND ROUNDER? i wonder if they see him as their future troy brown, a great returner and slot guy, but at that price? ehh.

cankles, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 04:47 (eighteen years ago)

Steinbach, you will be a staph infected treat!

brownie, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 14:06 (eighteen years ago)

U GUYS ON SPORTS CENTER LAST NITE THEY SAID THE PATZ ARE TRYING TO TRADE FOR.... RNADY MOTHERFUCKING MOSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!

i lobbied for this trade @ midseason and i would still be so psyched. can they make it into a sitcom right away or would that interfere w/the playing football too much?

jhøshea, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 14:13 (eighteen years ago)

i saw the moss thing too and was immediately thinking that it would either mean the pats would have a 1,200 yard receiver or they'd have a petulant T.O. type who would greatly aid them in their 9-7 season. still, i say go for it. get him in the clubhouse while there are still guys like harrison, seymour, vrabel, brady, and brown who will keep him in check. that team is getting old and if the window hasn't shut completely on their ability to win the super bowl it's closing fast.

also, in the thomas jones deal, didn't the bears ship jones AND their 2nd round pick for the jets 2nd round? i guess cedric benson is ready.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

joey porter - DOLPHIN!!

gettin moss would be the dopest imo. i love the guy and i really want to see him play at a high lvl again, for any team.

cankles, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

brady + moss = 1M TOUCHDOWNS!!!!!

jhøshea, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

either that or it would be the return of the young irving fryar. i could see him putting up decent numbers that aren't spectacular and being enough of an off-field distraction that you question his overall worth.

or, he could be the older irving fryar (the one who matured after the pats cut him loose) and put up crazy insane numbers for an aging vet.

no wonder he had such a crappy year, the part of randy moss was being played by sly stone.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 17:03 (eighteen years ago)

i just googled patriots blog looking for some sweet moss in pats uni photoshop action and like 10 blogs later... nothing! wtf patriots bloggers u sux

jhøshea, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:38 (eighteen years ago)

do the flacons get anything for kerney? I'm confused about this free agent stuff.

i also really don't understand the griffith/ovie thing - like apparently it's in order to run more? don't they run more than every other team combined anyway?

Gravel Puzzleworth, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

niners signed tully banta-cain. pats linebackers average age shoots up 6 years.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

Tully Banta-Cain went to a HS a couple miles away from mine! And I'm a couple months older than him! AKA I hate my life.

Leee, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 18:50 (eighteen years ago)

petrino wants to switch to a "power running" game, with hog type giant linemen. Alex gibbs, architect of the zone-blocking scheme, was dismissed. mughelli's part of the plan to get bigger and meaner in the run game, i guess. i'm skeptical - I feel like you should probably make the most of the talent you have. hopefully i am proved wrong!!!

also, no, the falcons dont get shit for kerney. he had 2 years left on his contract (IIRC) but he waited until the franchise deadline was over (you cant franchise a player still under contract) and exercised an option to void the contract. from what I understand he would've made slightly more money under his existing atlanta deal, but I think he really wanted out of here. when i've heard him in interviews he seemed disappointed with the way the team basically laid down for teams like Philly and Carolina the past couple years.

vikings are making POWER MOVES ; )

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 20:56 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not sure about Porter to the Fins. I don't think he's as washed up as some Steelers fans, but how many years does he have left? One to three tops. The Dolphins would do better to spend that cash for a player who's a better long-term investment.

Moss to the Pats is a great move!!

leavethecapital, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 22:01 (eighteen years ago)

i think porter to the fins is a great move for miami. i don't know what his contract looks like but i'm guessing it's back ended so they can cut him and take a cap hit for a year or two but still save mad $$$ overall. the more i think about it the more i'd really like to see what moss could do with the pats. if troy brown can catch over 100 passes, if david givens and david patten can reap huge free agent contracts, and if deion branch can become a superbowl mvp with brady i'd like to see what a guy who has actual physical skills and talent could do with that team.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 22:31 (eighteen years ago)

yessss exactly!

(i only worry that he's washed up injury prone uninterested etc)

jhøshea, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 23:31 (eighteen years ago)

joey porter's the same age as adalius thomas... i dont see how he's old and past his prime or nothing. i mean jesus look at ZACH THOMAS, he made the probowl last year. that said, miami needs 2 b gettin younger imo.

cankles, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 23:50 (eighteen years ago)

oh i meant moss

jhøshea, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 00:16 (eighteen years ago)

oh i know i was talkin to my main manz leavethecapital up there, whoever the fuck that is. moss to pats would be a dream cum tru imo

cankles, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 00:46 (eighteen years ago)

It's not like the Pats haven't taken chances on "problem players" before. Think back to Corey Dillon. I think Moss will be fine as a Pat. After serving time on the crazy-train in Oakland and being coached by Mike Tice in Minnesota, New England will be the first time he's ever played for a "professional" football team.

Porter does have some good mileage left on him. He’s salary cap causality more than anything else. Pittsburgh has some big contracts coming up in the next few years and they want to be sure there’s enough cash left to pay guys like Polumalu and Rofflesberger. My only problem with the Fins deal is like aidsy said Miami needs to get younger. Porter would be perfect for a team that needs a few pieces to compete. Best linebacker we’ve had since Lloyd.

leavethecapital, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 00:55 (eighteen years ago)

It's not like the Pats haven't taken chances on "problem players" before. Think back to Corey Dillon.

the one huge difference is that corey dillon never EVER was a problem on the field. he would bitch and moan (correctly) that the bengals front office didn't know what the fuck they were doing but he would still go out and run for 275 yards in a game the next day. moss is the type of doucheface that when he gets cranky doesn't finish his blocks or doesn't run his route with any conviction if he knows the ball isn't coming his way. that's a huge difference. the pats have a history of NOT taking chances on guys with questionable character. parcells drafted christian peter and kraft made him cut the dude after the domestic violence questions came up. they cut dejuan cherry after he was involved in a bar fight. they suspended ty law (then never went balls out to sign him again) after he was or was not caught with some X at the canadian border. local product chris sullivan was waived after a DUI.

kraft was a season ticket holder for 30 years before he bought the team, he doesn't want another scandal like the 86 superbowl team where 7 players pictures were on the front page of the boston globe the monday after superbowl XX because they were all implicated in cocaine use.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 14:44 (eighteen years ago)

kraft made him cut the dude after the domestic violence questions came up.

that is awesome. I didn't know that.

horseshoe, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, let's not go and start praising Bob Kraft, tho.

David R., Wednesday, 7 March 2007 20:21 (eighteen years ago)

actually they didn't cut him because after the draft the allegations came up so kraft refused to sign him, he wouldn't even meet with his agent. parcells was steamed because a) it undercut his authority and b) they effectively wasted a 3rd round draft pick. and i think tuna cared more about a than b.

the giants, however, filled the void and signed christian peter immediately.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)

i would like to say that london fletcher and freh'smoo is a subdued offseason for the skins. apparently they're talking of their first round pick (#6) to denver for dre bly and their first round.

i also suspect they'll make a run at mulitalo.

jhøshea, Friday, 9 March 2007 03:59 (eighteen years ago)

but that's...not his name?

horseshoe, Friday, 9 March 2007 05:43 (eighteen years ago)

It is hard to call on Porter's age, there are plenty of players that seem to continue being productive in their 30s these days. I think the guy just needs to stay out of bars in the Denver area.

I swear Corey Dillon was never really a problem with the Bengals until they started winning. The guy had a pretty low profile, then he got hurt and Cinci got off to a good start without him and then he really started pouting when he started to play and they lost a few. I think he had been complaining about losing during the off season before Lewis became the coach, but before that he wasn't really in the press much.

Has Travis Henry signed up with someone? That dude is so underrated and underappreciated it is not funny. The Bills dissed him for McGahee, who they have now gave up upon and the Titans didn't re-sign him, even though he was a big part of Tennessee having that resurgence in the second half of last year.

earlnash, Friday, 9 March 2007 09:37 (eighteen years ago)

Ohh...I missed that above where he signed with Denver.

earlnash, Friday, 9 March 2007 09:38 (eighteen years ago)

Can you really be underrated when you run for the league average & put the ball on the ground almost 8 times each of your first 3 seasons?

David R., Friday, 9 March 2007 14:27 (eighteen years ago)

ok Moss at the Patriots would actually make me watch the Patriots.

HI DERE, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

pats sign donte stallworth likely killing my dreams of moss ;_;

also pacmans is in the news again. this time he was just "trying to bowl" - which apparently, in today's "hiphop" vernacular, means something like "making it rain" except w/quarters and dimes and what ever you can find in your pockets.

jhøshea, Monday, 12 March 2007 00:19 (eighteen years ago)

also known as "throwing change at a bitch"

jhøshea, Monday, 12 March 2007 00:20 (eighteen years ago)

looks like stallworth will only be around for a year but that's fine with me. it will be nice to have a vertical threat on the team who has proven that he can get open on a fairly consistent basis unlike their previous attempts at producing a deep threat (hello chad jackson, bethel johnson).

chicago kevin, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

ahman green starts planning for his retirement

chicago kevin, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:23 (eighteen years ago)

If only they could've combined Chad Jackson & Bethel Johnson into one receiver!

David R., Monday, 12 March 2007 14:33 (eighteen years ago)

they probably would've wound up with a blazing fast receiver who can't catch, run a route, or stay healthy enough to get in games anyway.

chicago kevin, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)

Droughns to the Giants. A long season awaits Giants fans.

brownie, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:47 (eighteen years ago)

I doubt he'll get more than 5 touches a game, if that. Brandon Jacobs is gonna be the Gints' go-to horse. Until he gets hurt. Or shows up 30 seconds late to Tom Coughlin's Mandatory Mid-Week Fondue Tape Session.

David R., Monday, 12 March 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

man, the giants can't catch a break.

horseshoe, Monday, 12 March 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

Eli, good luck.

Have the Steelers had any free agent signings? they appear to be getting worse, not better this offseason

brownie, Monday, 12 March 2007 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

man, the giants can't catch a break.

Unlike Ashley Lelie, who can't catch a ball apparently!

Leee, Monday, 12 March 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

chad jackson + bethel johnson = chad johnson, no?

jhøshea, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

David R., Monday, 12 March 2007 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

chicago kevin, Monday, 12 March 2007 19:25 (eighteen years ago)

EURKIDDING!

David R., Monday, 12 March 2007 19:50 (eighteen years ago)

Pats sign Kelly Washington, giving them:

Welker
Washington
Stallworth
Chad Jackson
Gaffney
Big Eyes

Who's #1? Who's #6? It's an interesting mix of guys.

Oakland Mike, Monday, 12 March 2007 20:39 (eighteen years ago)

you forgot troy brown.

chicago kevin, Monday, 12 March 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

Is Eye Guy even going to make it through training camp?

David R., Monday, 12 March 2007 21:04 (eighteen years ago)

i don't know what his contract looks like but i'd wager he would. i think the depth chart will probably be something like:

wr 1- richochet caldwell/stallworth
wr 2- caldwell/stallworth/gaffney
wr3- caldwell/stallworth/gaffney
wr4- troy brown/chad jackson/welker
wr5 -brown/jackson/welker/whatever other scrubs they sign.

brown's probably gone now thtat i look at it.

chicago kevin, Monday, 12 March 2007 21:14 (eighteen years ago)

gone to play DEFENSE, you mean

David R., Monday, 12 March 2007 21:25 (eighteen years ago)

belicheck has been trying to cut him for the past 3 years but brown keeps playing himself into a job. kraft has already said that whenever brown wants to retire he'll have a job for life with the organization (same w/tedy bruschi).

chicago kevin, Monday, 12 March 2007 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

you know im glad belicheck is signing all these receivers and whatnot but it really seems like he refuses to get an actual #1 receiver like ever just because brady is so good he doesnt have to - but you know i would really love to see what it might look like for brady to have an actual #1 receiver and throw for like 1 million yards in a season.

jhøshea, Monday, 12 March 2007 22:38 (eighteen years ago)

hey can anyone from NY tell me anything about Visanthe Shiancoe? i guess he was yr backup tightend until the vikes got him?

any good?

i'm totes underwhelmed by the vikes moves.

M@tt He1ges0n, Monday, 12 March 2007 23:03 (eighteen years ago)

wr4- troy brown/chad jackson/welker
wr5 -brown/jackson/welker/whatever other scrubs they sign.

Why would they have traded a second round pick (and a seventh) for Welker if they only thought he was a #4 guy, though? I would be shocked if he wasn't #2 at least.

Oakland Mike, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 06:43 (eighteen years ago)

Welker if they only thought he was a #4 guy, though?

because belicheck is a big believer in special teams being one-third of the game. that's why he was among the first coaches to use his starters and best players on coverage teams. and with brown probably on his way out and kevin faulk entering the twilight of his career welker will probably be used primarily (if not solely) on special teams. i would be shocked if welker is anything more than a #3 receiver, i think he'll be situational at best.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 13:54 (eighteen years ago)

oh, i didn't realize chad jackson blew out his ACL in january and is out 6-12 months. so i'd say welker is a lock for at least a 4 spot and maybe a 3 depending on who 1/2 is.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 14:02 (eighteen years ago)

and just to belabor a point, from the boston globe:

Do you think Stallworth's deal will essentially be for one year given the large bonus due in March? And finally, given the recent signings, do you think Troy will come back. I hope he does. Thanks.

Mike_Reiss If I had to make a definitive call on Stallworth right now, I'd say it's a one-year deal. But a lot of time is going to pass before that decision needs to be made. As for Troy Brown, I wish I had a better read on that one. It sounds to me like he wants to play, but you wonder if there is a place for him with Wes Welker in the fold, as Welker plays in the slot and returns punts, just like Brown. If I had to guess, I'd say it looks like there isn't an exact fit for Brown on the team's roster right now.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 14:05 (eighteen years ago)

Archuleta to... Chicago?

Gravel Puzzleworth, Tuesday, 20 March 2007 11:42 (eighteen years ago)

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 20 March 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

lovie knows him from st. louis, maybe he can coax something out of him. it better be at a discounted price however.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 20 March 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

or maybe lovie is just taking revenge on management for the shabby treatment?

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 20 March 2007 20:16 (eighteen years ago)

Who will take pacman?

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 21 March 2007 04:55 (eighteen years ago)

matt schaub traded to TEXANS for a first-round swap (falcons go from 10th to 8th) and two second-rounders. pretty good imo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cankles, Wednesday, 21 March 2007 21:49 (eighteen years ago)

pretty good for a third rounder!

Does eight mean... AP? Or just insurance on Landry?

Gravel Puzzleworth, Thursday, 22 March 2007 09:43 (eighteen years ago)

skins have offered their #6 for bears #31 and lance briggs.

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 21:10 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, I think the bears should take that.
