2007 NFL DRAFT THREAD FOR I LOVE NFL

Every time Mike & Mike (yeah, I know) mention Brady Quinn, they play a snippet from Enrique Iglesias' "Hero," which is awesome.

David R., Thursday, 26 April 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

i've been meaning to make this thread! mostly i have never paid a lot of attn to the draft but i am a little more interested this year since the falcons have a high pick.

imo jamarcus russell aint shit. dj shockley was a better college QB than him!!

cankles, Thursday, 26 April 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)

I'm pretty happy with the Browns taking Thomas, Quinn or Peterson. I was anti-Quinn but now switched to neutral on him. He played for a very average Notre Dame team and made them better and has good size. Plus he grew up a Browns fan.

brownie, Thursday, 26 April 2007 15:35 (eighteen years ago)

yeah i thought quinn sukked too for a while but i'm starting to drink the kool-aid. remember when troy smith was lobbying for the browns to draft him? lolol

if the browns take thomas, what happens to kevin schaffer?

cankles, Thursday, 26 April 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

I don't really see Thomas coming to the Browns even if he's on the board. The Browns have a lot of money tied up on the o-line, if LC Bentley doesn't have more surgery in May then there's a chance he could play this year.

Weis has been campaigning hard for Quinn and it's having an effect on me. I can only wonder how deep a spell Crennel is under.

Smith, oh how you've fallen.

Falcons trading up to get Johnson?!?!? WILL IT HAPPEN

brownie, Thursday, 26 April 2007 17:20 (eighteen years ago)

HI DERE RICK MIRER.

brownie, Thursday, 26 April 2007 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

but rick mirer was built like shelly duvall and grbac-esque leadership ability/charisma, i bet quinn does much better but then again he could leaf it up bigtime ;_;

i dunno if jamarcus is the next culpepper or the next druckenmiller but the dude can throw it. best player in the draft is gonna be calvin johnson, right?

bear should draft a qb imho, maybe that kolb dude from houston? u of h has an awesome track record with qbs in the nfl iirc, lol

félix pié, Thursday, 26 April 2007 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

ya lol there's a rumor that the falcons are gonna trade up w/the lions for the second overall pick. i am not a hueg fan of that idea i mean it's not like they're just ONE PIECE AWAY from a championship. however it is hard not to get excited abt the idea of CJ playing for the doity boids.

cankles, Thursday, 26 April 2007 18:07 (eighteen years ago)

so who do you guyz want your teams to take??? I am torn between Laron Landry and best available DE @ the 8th pick. if they can get someone like jamal anderson in the first and then mb merriweather or griffin or nelson in the second, and then maybe a WR with the other second rounder, that would be pretty kewl imo.

cankles, Thursday, 26 April 2007 18:10 (eighteen years ago)

Falcones have two 2nd rounders? hmmm that's some draft day trade up bait right there

brownie, Thursday, 26 April 2007 18:52 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, from the Schaub deal with the Texans - they swapped first rounders with Houston (moving ATL from the 10th pick to the 8th) and got two 2nd rounders from HOU (this year and next year's). if i'm being realistic using the picks on need positions is prob best for the team, but picking up the best receiver prospect of the decade would be something of a coup as well.

imo!!!!!

cankles, Thursday, 26 April 2007 18:55 (eighteen years ago)

yeah definitely otherwise you have another season of vick zipping catchable bullets into the iron fingers of jenkins and lelie : /

félix pié, Thursday, 26 April 2007 18:57 (eighteen years ago)

pats need help at corner, safety, and linebacker. they have two first round picks, spend them both there unless there's someone too good to ignore falling fast.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 26 April 2007 19:30 (eighteen years ago)

two first round picks ;_;

brownie, Thursday, 26 April 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

i heard a rumor that the Pats will trade away one of those picks, but i don't understand what for. an outside linebacker would be first on my list, with either of a defensive back second, whoever is the best prospect left in at that point. a right tackle wouldn't hurt, either.

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 26 April 2007 19:54 (eighteen years ago)

Sentence Construction: 43

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 26 April 2007 19:56 (eighteen years ago)

i think they're more likely to get a db with the picks they have. but yeah, they need help inside and out at linebacker. last year they couldn't keep their safeties on the field so having someone who can just provide continuity would be an upgrade. plus rodney harrison is getting older and more brittle with each day, they need to get younger at safety. then the corner situation needs to be worked out. assante samuel will be gone after this year if his rhetoric is to be belived and they were still playing troy brown at corner last year. that's an obvious sign they need help.

but this year's draft has better safeties than corners so who knows how it will all shake out.

ESPN REPORTS FALCONS LOOKING TO TRADE UP FOR JOHNSON

"Only if we receive K-Records back catalogue" says Falcons GM

brownie, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:33 (eighteen years ago)

i heard arthur blank really wants the wideout from ga tech because a) he'll put asses in seats and b) it will give vick someone to throw to as well as taking away the "he doesn't have anyone to catch the ball" excuse.

chicago kevin, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

This will all go to pot, though, if the Raiders take Johnson like they fucking should.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

lolol lk, i'm pretty sure I know girls who have been banged by both CJs.

i feel like brees really upped the bar this year wrt playing in a nu offense - if vick cant step up and produce then he probably never will. i am stoked tho!!!

I hope falcons don't draft levi brown.

congrats, Brownie ... nice draft

Stormy Davis, Saturday, 28 April 2007 20:19 (eighteen years ago)

(ooh but you did have to give up next year's 1 .. ouch)

Stormy Davis, Saturday, 28 April 2007 20:21 (eighteen years ago)

2nd round and 1st round 2008 given up. not cheap, but a good trade all the same.

BQ himself kinda looked like he'd rather have been some other team's 1st pick rather than Cleveland's 2nd.

Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 28 April 2007 20:26 (eighteen years ago)

the dose of humility could be good for him, though.

Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 28 April 2007 20:27 (eighteen years ago)

Whoa that is good for the cowboys :(

Gravel Puzzleworth, Saturday, 28 April 2007 20:32 (eighteen years ago)

Go Browns!! Joe Thomas AND Brady Quinn!! Phil Savage is a goddamn genius.

Mr. Snrub, Saturday, 28 April 2007 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

this is already the best Browns draft since... whenever they drafted Kosar.

cankles, Saturday, 28 April 2007 21:42 (eighteen years ago)

Iggles! WTF are you doing?!

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 28 April 2007 22:48 (eighteen years ago)

that was a good pick imo! they needed to draft a QB this year, mb Kolb's too high a pick, but he's pretty well-regarded.

cankles, Saturday, 28 April 2007 22:58 (eighteen years ago)

One players I am really wondering about is Garratt Wolfe from Northern Illinois. I don't know how that guy came out of the combine, but the guy put up some good numbers and I like those really small running backs. I think he might be a really killer 3rd down back. I'd like to see the Colts get him in a later round and see if he could be a James Brooks kind of back.

I wonder how much those big USC wideout busts has hurt Jarrett's draft chances. That guy was projected as a first rounder during his junior year and it looks like he is might not go in the first two rounds.

earlnash, Saturday, 28 April 2007 23:26 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe the Eagles do need a QB, but they need more help on the DEF first. I'd have let Kolb fall (and he probably would've) and just pick him up later.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 29 April 2007 00:05 (eighteen years ago)

wow. the browns did something. y didn't miami drft BQ?

did the lions really draft stanton second?

brownie, Sunday, 29 April 2007 05:36 (eighteen years ago)

Absolutely NOT a fan of the Browns giving up their third and fourth round picks for Eric Wright. Do they really need a cornerback that badly??

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 29 April 2007 13:58 (eighteen years ago)

Holy shit, Randy Moss to the Pats for a fourth-round pick?!?!?

Alex in SF, Sunday, 29 April 2007 15:58 (eighteen years ago)

Darrell Jackson just got shipped to the 49ers for the same thing.

That guy was my most reliable scorer in fantasy last year, so I hope SF doesn't put him way down on their depth chart.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 29 April 2007 16:18 (eighteen years ago)

Holy shit, Randy Moss to the Pats for a fourth-round pick?!?!?

i know. holy plop.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 29 April 2007 18:34 (eighteen years ago)

Mrs. Possibly Soon-To-Be If-Not-Already Brady Quinn was kinda cute when she was squirming on camera with Mr. Brady Quinn.

David R., Monday, 30 April 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

Brady cannot dress himself - he'll fit right in here in CleVegas.

brownie, Monday, 30 April 2007 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

isn't mrs. soon to be brady quinn some current nfl linebacker and former osu linebacker's sister?

chicago kevin, Monday, 30 April 2007 15:14 (eighteen years ago)

AJ Hawk's sister married Brady Quinn's 2nd cousin or some shit. Or maybe AJ Feely.

David R., Monday, 30 April 2007 15:14 (eighteen years ago)

am very excited to have Adrian Peterson in Purple. I don't give a shit about the collarbone, this team could NOT afford to let an offensive player of that caliber slide by.

Vike executed well overall, I thought, was nice picking up an extra forth round trading down in the second, even though I would have preferred Jarret to Sidney Rice, they obviously like him better and at least they took him about where he should be and got value for it.

M@tt He1ges0n, Monday, 30 April 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

Brady Quinn's older sister married AJ Hawk.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 30 April 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

how many games until his picks become too much to bear and the dawg pound starts calling him brady quim?

félix pié, Monday, 30 April 2007 17:19 (eighteen years ago)

more like lady quim amirite

brownie, Monday, 30 April 2007 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

but seriously folks, with Charlie Frye taking him under his wing, Quinn is a lead pipe cinch to be a stand out QB.

brownie, Monday, 30 April 2007 17:40 (eighteen years ago)

8080

David R., Monday, 30 April 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

i wasn't super high on quinn and wasn't surprised to see him drop, but i think that the browns did well by moving back in to the late first round to grab him....yeah you're giving up a first round pick, but they would have had to do that eventually, and you're going to end up spending a TON less on quinn now than having to use a potential top 10 pick on a QB next year...and obviously, quinn has def. potential and brings some intangibles in terms of PR and fan interest being from the area.

M@tt He1ges0n, Monday, 30 April 2007 19:01 (eighteen years ago)

i look at brady quinn and i see cade mcnown. i hope i'm wrong for your sake cleveland.

chicago kevin, Monday, 30 April 2007 19:18 (eighteen years ago)

I hate to be so homerish, but this draft was the best the Browns could hope for. Something had to happen now. Just drafting Thomas, while a good move, is just ho-hum. Adding Quinn puts a lot of interest back in the club. It wasn't a good atmosphere here- people are now genuinely excited.

brownie, Monday, 30 April 2007 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

getting a long-term solution on the o-line like thomas is a lot better than just ho-hum! i would love to have him...thought the browns handled the whole first round excellently...

M@tt He1ges0n, Monday, 30 April 2007 19:45 (eighteen years ago)

Just drafting Thomas, while a good move, is just ho-hum.

perhaps but if they'd only wound up with quinn they would not have any success. if they wound up with only thomas they would be better than last year. they need an o-line that will let their qb make a play, be that charlie frye or brady quinn.

chicago kevin, Monday, 30 April 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

plus, big time QBs are a 50/50 shot at best, maybe even worse, but in general good O lineman that are good in college make out well in the pros.

M@tt He1ges0n, Monday, 30 April 2007 20:02 (eighteen years ago)

http://abclocal.go.com/images/robert_gallery_102405_lg.jpg

félix pié, Monday, 30 April 2007 20:03 (eighteen years ago)

for every robert gallery there's a tony boselli or willie roaf or john tait. while for every elway there's a richard todd or tony eason or akili smith or cade mcnown or ryan leaf.

chicago kevin, Monday, 30 April 2007 20:09 (eighteen years ago)

i think there are very few major superstars or horrible busts in both and mostly this dull gray middle ground of competent players who are probably as good as others taken in later rounds. the difference between busted qbs and O-linemen in the former are higher profile.

félix pié, Monday, 30 April 2007 20:14 (eighteen years ago)

though i remember stan thomas very well

félix pié, Monday, 30 April 2007 20:15 (eighteen years ago)

I would, at this point, settle for a Richard Todd. Hell, even a Mary Todd.

brownie, Monday, 30 April 2007 20:17 (eighteen years ago)

Playing in Cleveland for a QB can be no fun and Brady Quinn might find out it isn't always good to get what you want. Tim Couch got freakin clocked playing for those guys and the last time he went down his shoulder was so screwed up, his career was over. The Dawgpound was cheering the Couch getting hurt and carried off the field. That was totally wrong and no matter how bad Couch had played, he did not deserve that.

Couch's career has gone down as a complete bust, but I think the fact he ended up in Cleveland is a big part of why. Getting drafted by the wrong team happens to bunches of players.

earlnash, Monday, 30 April 2007 22:39 (eighteen years ago)

Here in Madison, Joe Thomas is pretty much revered. UW played over their heads the last few years with some pretty inadequate QBs who all benefitted from knowing they wouldn't get clocked on the blindside. He's also thought of as some kind of supergenius among linemen, when (as I know from my co-worker whose daughter taught him in high school) he's just kind of average intelligence-wise. Just speaks well, mostly, and is self-deprecating while at the same time being kind of massive.

So yeah, ho-hum is as ho-hum does. But he's gonna help your team A LOT.

Dimension 5ive, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 03:03 (eighteen years ago)

Jesus Christ, Mel Kiper! Grow a fucking pair! Every single team is graded either a B or a C!

Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 17:47 (eighteen years ago)

i don't think any teams really had a bad draft! some were better than others and there were certainly some high-profile choices that you could quibble with, but i dont think anyone really came out bad either.

cankles, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

the most wtf picks, like levi brown and ted ginn, are still pretty defensible
