yeah but not on the road in seattle at night. that stadium gets LOUD and there's nothing like a night game to get the crowd amped. though i don't know if that necessarily holds true on the west coast.
either way, they'll win sometime but it won't be this week.

WAS/GB and TEN/TB are the tough ones for me, and CAR/ARI a little. car and ari both have horrid QB situations (starters gone for season) but i guess arizona's the better overall team at this point and they're at home. Washington beating GB at home seems like a stretch, and they're missing more starters to boot, but I just got A FEELIN.

Testeverde is older than Elvis when he died.
I know Baltimore's favored by like 8.5 points against St. Louis, but I dunno. The Rams suck, but so does Baltimore?
I'm tempted to pick the Ravens in my survival league, but I have a weird feeling about it.
Patriots are going to wax Dallas. Cowboys had a short week after a late game.
― Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 19:55 (seventeen years ago)
don't think so, cowboys will be focused and prepared, unlike at buffalo. probably were looking past buffalo to begin with. they'll still lose, but i don't think it will be a blowout.
― hstencil, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 19:58 (seventeen years ago)
I don't know; I think NE is a LOT better than Dallas. that's what's so annoying about this season; both NE and Indy seem like they're playing in a different league than everyone else. boring.
― horseshoe, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 20:06 (seventeen years ago)
^^ i agree, and the season will be less fun after NE beat Dallas and show that
i suspect the Patriots will win comfortably even if it's not technically a blowout - i.e. the result will never really be in doubt past the 1st quarter. after the Bills game, the 'Boys will be concerned that wily Bill B will have seen too much of how to beat Romo and they'll probably look to change their offensive game to a more careful one that won't suit them.
Bobby's big prediction of the week: 'Boys to start cautiously and ineffectively, get majority of their scores in the 2nd half after the game is basically already put away.
― Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 20:12 (seventeen years ago)
Imagine if Dallas turns the ball over like they did against Buf. 120-0 easy.

There are a bunch of games this week that I think are really close to call.
Tampa - This game could end up kind of fugly and I would not be surprised if the Titans win.
Bears - Chicago is at home and as long as they don't turnover the ball I figure they will be OK. It still should be close.
J-ville - Texans are kind of broken and knowing my luck the bad Jaguars will show up this week.
Cinci - If the Bengals D cannot stop KC, they won't stop anyone.
Washington - It is an upset, but I think the Skins are pretty good.
Ravens - Baltimore seems to be less this year, but the Rams are a mess.
Philly - The Jets seem more screwed up than the Eagles.
Cards - This is a pickem game. If the sack machine can stay upright, Carolina might win.
SD - The Chargers seem to be getting it back together.
NE - Can I just hope for a black hole to open and take both teams into the phantom zone?
Seahawks - Seattle stunk last week, but no one is stinking more than the Saints.
Giants - Falcons are going to win again at some point, but maybe the NYG's are decent.
― earlnash, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 21:47 (seventeen years ago)
can LJ break 100 yds vs Cincy? probably not :(
― bnw, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 21:55 (seventeen years ago)
MN @ CHI -- CHI: Griese will spend more time throwing to Viking DBs than to his own receivers, but CHI will probably win with a couple Gould FGs unless Peterson finds a seam two or three times.
MIA @ CLE -- CLE: Miami has been beaten by some terrible teams already, so this is really Cleveland's to lose.
WASH @ GB -- WASH: Redskins DEF is actually even stronger than Chicago's, so if Green Bay wins it'll have to be through the air.
CIN @ KC -- KC: This is more wishful thinking than anything, but if the KC DEF can keep Cincy under control, Croyle to Bowe should pick the Cincy DEF apart.
PHIL @ JETS -- PHI: Simple. Iggles don't stink as badly as Jets stink.
TN @ TB -- TB: This will be a low scorer, though.
HOU @ JAC -- HOU: Because Jags are at home playing and opponent they should defeat, ergo they lose.
STL @ BLT -- BAL: This is just a coin flip, really.
CAR @ AZ -- AZ: This is Arizona's year, dudes! ;)
NE @ DAL -- DAL: Upset pick? Sure.
OK @ SD -- SD: Hey ma! I fixed the offense!
NO @ SEA -- SEA: Like was mentioned above, games in Seattle are hard to win at night. Especially if you don't have wins anywhere else this year.
NYG @ ATL -- NYG: Didn't see any of the Giants game last week, but I'm just assuming the DEF still works like it did against Philly. And Atlanta is no Philly.

i can see that because i remember those years when the 49ers were head and shoulders above everyone else and it seemed it was a race for second place but the first year the pats won the superbowl they were playing a rams team that everyone said was destined to be remembered as one of the best ever.
i think the dallas game will be a close one but i think the pats will win. better qb and a better line. i can't wait for the indy game. is it at the razor or is it in indiana?
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:55 (seventeen years ago)
here are some things to know about the Clev/NE game last weekend:
NE punted 6 times! and the Browns did not pressure Brady at all. Yeah, let the Pats do a 6 minute drive but do not blow coverage like the Browns did. Make them get to the five yard line- do not give up the big play or turnover. The Pats are a machine and will destroy if you do.
The Pats can be beaten deep and with screens and delays if they blitz.
i'm basically repeating every cliche ever but damn
― brownie, Thursday, 11 October 2007 02:34 (seventeen years ago)
NE's o-line has been RIDICULOUS this year. I haven't seen a game yet where Brady didn't have enough time to map the human genome back there.

yeah, no. one of the few things you have to give brian billick credit for over the years is that in spite of his (considerable) ego he always made sure to build to the strength of the Ravens, ie. defense. obviously ozzie newsome wouldn't let him throw everything out the window like that even if he wanted to, but he knows where his bread is buttered and takes care of that side of the ball. the bengals need all the help in the world on defense but if you start siphoning off the best players on your *best unit* you will probably just end up with an all-around mediocre team.
chad j is one of the top 15 players in the league. MAYBE one dt is in the top 20.-- Jordan Sargent, Sunday, October 14, 2007 9:12 PM (Yesterday) Bookmark Link

It is almost like NE is using their 3 wide outs kind of like the Colts did a couple of years ago. What is interesting is that the Colts offense the past year or so is more like NE's old model with power running and ball control passing.
yeah, the thing is the Colts HAVE to play like that now because everyone (correctly) plays them two deep. they had to have a great short passing game, which is what won them the SB. they'll still make the big plays if they're made available, but basically they are just a super efficient defense-murdering machine rn. in the Dallas game last night I was actually thinking about this re: NE, because they kept going deep at inappropriate times and reminded me of when Peyton would get stuck in that rut where he would try to be a superhero too much. hopefully NE learns that lesson sooner rather than later~~~

― jhøshea, Monday, 15 October 2007 19:45 (seventeen years ago)
wait wait wait.... when did belicick seem anything BUT bloodless in press conferences?
the thing about those rams teams is that once the pats exposed how to beat them (jamming the receivers at the line and then HITTING them when they tried to catch it as opposed to playing cover two and trying to keep the recievers in front of the safties) they weren't the same team. there has to be a way to beat this current pats offense but i don't know if/when anyone will find it. randy moss is doing the same things he's been doing for years, donte stallworth has been playing similarly for the past three years while welker and watson haven't changed how they play.
the one thing that really impresses me about this team is the o-line, brady has all day to find a receiver and they're making sammy morris look like an all-pro. hell, even kevin faulk averaged 4 yards per carry after taking over when morris got injured.

I didn't flip over to Sunday night football until the last couple of minutes and was really surprised to see the Saints were winning. The Seahawks must thank their lucky stars for being in the NFC West, as that is the only way that ratty team will make the playoffs, especially considering that the Cards are down to Tim Rattay at QB and the 49ers have no offense at all.
"what did tennessee and houston do to indy to make the games so close?"
I think they able to make the Colts take field goals instead of TDs enough in the red zone to make it interesting. Other than the year when Manning was throwing crazy amounts of TDs, the Titans seem to play Indy pretty tough. A long time ago before NE became the Colts arch nemesis, it used to be that Jeff Fisher and the Titans had Manning's number.
The Bears need to figure out how to get Hester on the field more often on offense. Chicago need to try and get Hester the ball a time or two each half, just to see if he can make something happen. Even as a threat, he might help their running game a bit, as they will have to have someone zoning on him. Though if the Bears D has weeks like this one, nothing will help.

The Bears need to figure out how to get Hester on the field more often on offense.
he's in on a fair amount of snaps but it seems like EVERYONE on the defense is acutely aware when he steps on the field. that's why i think the te's will have good #'s while he's out there. i wonder what olson/clark did yesterday...
