Please do not let us spend our lives forced to praise the new england patriots.

El Tomboto, Monday, 24 December 2007 08:29 (seventeen years ago)

You know, it would be really hilarious and poetic if the Chargers somehow beat the Patriots in the AFC title game, avenging last year's heartbreaker, and vindicating Norv Turner in the process. I mean, it probably isn't going to happen, but it would be an EXCELLENT way to ruin everything for the Patriots.

polyphonic, Monday, 24 December 2007 08:34 (seventeen years ago)

btw I am really, really disappointed in your guys that there was no liveblogging of the packers/bears game. I know it's the holidays and all but seriously, fuck fuck shit and fuck.

TOMBOT, Monday, 24 December 2007 08:40 (seventeen years ago)

The only acceptable ruining of the pats that I can deal with is for osi to kill tom brady.

I am not kidding or exaggerating.

TOMBOT, Monday, 24 December 2007 08:42 (seventeen years ago)

The playoffs are going to be so great this year.

do not like Lemon, especially his pussing out at the goalline

omg, i forgot about this. so lame, hope parcells was watching.

johnny crunch, Monday, 24 December 2007 16:43 (seventeen years ago)

Tennessee will probably win. Dungy said he was going to rest most of his top guys.

polyphonic, Monday, 24 December 2007 17:19 (seventeen years ago)

The Steelers defense without Aaron Smith reminds me the Bears without Tommie Harris, maybe worse. I don't think they can go far in the playoffs without him, and with the protection problems they've been having on the o-line.

I think people are a little too high on the Jags. They're a heck of a team but they can only win in one way, and Marcus Stroud is now on IR. I can only see them beating Indy in a very close, lucky game, and same with the Pats.

let's talk about end of the year awards!

MVP: doi
DPOY: most interesting convo to me. i'd personally pick haynesworth or kevin williams, with pat willis and bob sanders coming up the rear. jared allen and aaron smith deserve mention too.
DROY: patrick willis
OROY: peterson will get it, but i think joe thomas deserves serious consideration. that o-line has been dominant all year.
coach of the year: belichick! even if you take the pats outta the picture, i sorta hate how this is a "who exceeded expectations the most" award instead of just going to the coach of the best team. ppl really want to give this to mike mccarthy or romeo crennell??

cankles, Monday, 24 December 2007 21:42 (seventeen years ago)

well yeah, they have the benefit of not having gotten busted cheating

El Tomboto, Monday, 24 December 2007 22:00 (seventeen years ago)

I mean belichick doesn't need COTY recognition anyway, he's going to go get his fifth ring and he's got two playbooks in the HOF already, plus videogate!

El Tomboto, Monday, 24 December 2007 22:02 (seventeen years ago)

6th ring! don't forget the 86 SB~

fine give it to wade phillips then, SEE WHAT I CARE

cankles, Monday, 24 December 2007 22:26 (seventeen years ago)

oh I was forgetting the 1990 one actually

El Tomboto, Monday, 24 December 2007 23:18 (seventeen years ago)

do they let you read those gameplans if you go to the actual physical HoF??? i am so curious about looking at that shit. i've never had it really explained what he specifically schemed up to stop the k-gun or GSoT.

BOW DOWN! (MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR, BITCHES)

jhøshea, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 05:26 (seventeen years ago)

wiki article on SB XXV is pretty good, but basically it's key to note that the giants lined up only two down linemen for nearly every bills snap. No pass rush whatsoever. they played a physical ground game to eat up the clock and dared thurman thomas to beat them. in retrospect it looks like the best and only way they had a chance, a really cerebral risk management decision that looks great now because norwood whiffed it. Bills were definitely the better team, but not better enough.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 05:27 (seventeen years ago)

Pats/Giants game to be simulcast on NBC and CBS!
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/26/sports/football/27cnd-patriots.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin
I was gonna catch it on local tv anyways, but good news for you non-east coasters, m i rit?

forksclovetofu, Thursday, 27 December 2007 01:13 (seventeen years ago)

My local non-megacorp cable system has NFL Network, so no change for me, but I'm happy for the rest of humanity.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 27 December 2007 01:49 (seventeen years ago)

I would seriously pay $3,000 for the Colts to win this Sunday.

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 27 December 2007 02:53 (seventeen years ago)

against the Titans? okay

El Tomboto, Thursday, 27 December 2007 02:54 (seventeen years ago)

I'll take your money

El Tomboto, Thursday, 27 December 2007 02:54 (seventeen years ago)

Do you accept Paypal?

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 27 December 2007 04:13 (seventeen years ago)

that's great news for me because i wound up overdrawing my checking account by paying the bills i had listed under "WAIT UNTIL NEXT PAYCHECK". so going to a bar wasn't much of an option.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 December 2007 20:22 (seventeen years ago)

I'll put up two items on Amazon.com for $1500 each under "used and new" and you can buy one now, then another one after the titans lose, and I can either send you some junk in the mail or not

El Tomboto, Thursday, 27 December 2007 20:30 (seventeen years ago)

hi guys are we excited for this game???

horseshoe, Saturday, 29 December 2007 22:52 (seventeen years ago)

meh. I'll get excited if there's less than a two score lead by Pats halfway through the fourth.

forksclovetofu, Saturday, 29 December 2007 23:15 (seventeen years ago)

is this wack spoken-word tribute to the Pats actually happening?

horseshoe, Sunday, 30 December 2007 01:02 (seventeen years ago)

GODDAMN RIGHT!!!

i woke up at 4 pm, went outside to go to dominick's to get some food for the game, realized it was about 25 degrees outside, turned back and ordered a pizza. my pizza got here at 6:58. perfect timing.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 01:06 (seventeen years ago)

is anyone else getting two audio tracks on the game??!?!!?!?!?

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 01:10 (seventeen years ago)

never mind, it's gone now. i think it was a ford commercial?

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 01:10 (seventeen years ago)

Bryant Gumbel. Never thought I'd miss Greg so much.

Pleasant Plains, Sunday, 30 December 2007 01:30 (seventeen years ago)

is this wack spoken-word tribute to the Pats actually happening?

-- horseshoe, Sunday, 30 December 2007 01:02 (1 hour ago) Link

lol, NFLN's had that for all their games this year. it's really maddening :[

cankles, Sunday, 30 December 2007 03:30 (seventeen years ago)

I don't give a fuck about the Patriots. All I care about is the Colts winning tomorrow.

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 30 December 2007 06:33 (seventeen years ago)

guys Sorgi is kind of painful to watch.

horseshoe, Monday, 31 December 2007 03:05 (seventeen years ago)

assistant coach Peyton on the sidelines, though= <3 <3 <3

horseshoe, Monday, 31 December 2007 03:06 (seventeen years ago)

Sorry Browns, I was rooting against Tennessee for you. :(

Johnny Fever, Monday, 31 December 2007 04:13 (seventeen years ago)

that was so boring. ok everyone loves indy but wtf on just giving up on a game

daria-g, Monday, 31 December 2007 04:13 (seventeen years ago)

i stared watching cspan in the 2nd quarter CSPAN!

jhøshea, Monday, 31 December 2007 04:21 (seventeen years ago)

hillary campaign event amirite? :) for real, though, pats run up the score gameplan aka playing 60 minutes every time vs indy saying fuck it. pulled manning and half their other starters, had a timeout near the end and could've at least made tenn take a snap but didn't bother.

daria-g, Monday, 31 December 2007 04:34 (seventeen years ago)

yah i saw hil i saw obama i saw some iowa local news it was good

jhøshea, Monday, 31 December 2007 04:35 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, i pretty much love indy but that game was boring as hell. that's the way dungy always plays it at the end of the regular season, though.

horseshoe, Monday, 31 December 2007 05:52 (seventeen years ago)

Indy please die kthxbye.

SeekAltRoute, Monday, 31 December 2007 08:10 (seventeen years ago)

There's a big difference between leaving your starters in when you have a chance to go 16-0 in the regular season and benching your starters when you really have zilch to play for.

Let's not forget in 2005, Belichick played his starters a quarter or so in Week 17 and pulled them even when they actually HAD A CHANCE TO MOVE FROM THE #4 SEED TO #3...partially because they likely didn't want to play the Steelers.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 04:31 (seventeen years ago)

this a kinda great patz article http://www.slate.com/id/2181078/nav/tap3

jhøshea, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 17:34 (seventeen years ago)

jhøshea, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

you're weird

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 19:41 (seventeen years ago)

uh yeah obv but anyway can you do me that solid thx

jhøshea, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 21:19 (seventeen years ago)

DPOY = bob sanders

wow, big too:

Bob Sanders 29
Patrick Kerney 4
Albert Haynesworth 4
Antonio Cromartie 3
Mike Vrabel 2
DeMarcus Ware 2
Ronde Barber 1
James Harrison 1
Patrick Willis 1
Mario Williams 1

johnny crunch, Monday, 7 January 2008 22:56 (seventeen years ago)

Whoa, Cromartie got votes? That's insane. He had a lot of interceptions, but he got beat a lot too. Plus, he only started for 2/3rds of the season.

polyphonic, Monday, 7 January 2008 23:17 (seventeen years ago)

MORE LOVE FOR HAYNESWORTH would've been appropriate.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 22:38 (seventeen years ago)

I guess the whole "stomping on downed players heads" thing comes into play.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 22:38 (seventeen years ago)

I think these guys voted for Cromartie:

http://i.cnn.net/si/multimedia/photo_gallery/0801/nfl.playoffs.week1/images/merriman.castillo.jpg

polyphonic, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 22:40 (seventeen years ago)

Haynesworth missed a lot of time too.

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 23:17 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, but those were mostly games the Titans lost, which kinda reinforces the point.

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 00:32 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, but if you want to win the award, you gotta play.

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

bob sanders is probably the best/most appropriate choice, with haynesworth cumming up the rear~

just imo~

cankles, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 22:54 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I'm not arguing either of those points; just saying dude's more deserving that fuckin' Vrabel, just as a for instance.

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 23:50 (seventeen years ago)

How did Vrabel play so well this year? It seemed to come a little out of nowhere. I always thought of him as a solid, somewhat-mediocre veteran, but his stats this year were great.

polyphonic, Thursday, 10 January 2008 00:38 (seventeen years ago)

he's always been better than somewhat-mediocre! he's generally in the "very good, not great" class imo... he just happened to have a really nice year. that Washington game where he played out of his mind prob skews things too.

cankles, Thursday, 10 January 2008 01:09 (seventeen years ago)

I would have thought that the Packer's Aaron Kampman would have perhaps gotten a vote.

earlnash, Thursday, 10 January 2008 02:09 (seventeen years ago)

How did Vrabel play so well this year?

he wasn't playing middle linebacker this year. when they signed thomas they moved vrabel back to outside linebacker and let him blitz the qb instead of staying home and protecting against the run.
