what the hell is wrong with the 49ers organization?

how can a team possibly be so goddamn bad? you'd think they have some money from the merchandising alone that would allow them to get some good players

Merchandising money alone won't make up for how badly they've screwed up their salary cap. They won't be able to lure talented players to SF for another 4 years at least.

They could start with one of the eight or so guys who closed in on Vasser actually making the tackle. the Niners had that game won.

The 9ers were hardly in the driver's seat at any point in the game, i.e. their most effective offensive play was the punt.

Wolfcastleee (Leee), Monday, 14 November 2005 05:53 (twenty years ago)

Underlying problem: a recent history of inept talent evaluation. Bad drafts, big money on free agents who don't pan out, and so forth.

Potential glimmer of hope: the run defense is surprisingly good, even if they haven't had a consistent pass rusher since Stubblefield's contract year, though Bryant Young playing like his last name again is quite awesome.

BUSH BUSH BUSH

Niners desperately need a good RB, gotta take Bush if they get the chance.

Mingus Dew (Mingus Dew), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 11:45 (nineteen years ago)

Frank Gore seems promising though, and what about Barlow? Don't tell me they're going to just cut the fella.

('_') (Leee), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

what are they paying him? gore's a good back but you'd be crazy to put yr eggs in that basket - injury prone doesn't begin to describe. he'd be a great backup though. any team with a shot at the number one pick now should and will take bush. here's my question - who's got the tiebreaker for #2?

SF is one of those clubs that is leaving this season much better than where it started. If they can improve the defense and considering the state of the NFC in general and the West in particular, they could be a playoff team next year.

Will it happen? Who knows, the difference between 6-10 and 10-6 really is not that much.

He wasn't so wrong about picking Bush.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 5 January 2007 05:10 (eighteen years ago)

he wasn't wrong about gore the inconvenient truth either, i'm amazed that he lasted the season.

You pretty much can say this about the Niners for the past decade. It's probably more true now than in 07 though, but we will see.
