Start nominating places to host the league this year.
Yahoo is out, I think, unless they provide free live scoring this time. I looked at NFL.com and CBS (basically the same setup for both), but the scoring isn't customizable at all and I kind of liked IDP scoring last year. Anyone know if ESPN scoring is customizable and IDP inclusive?
Any other ideas?
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 21:55 (seventeen years ago)
Anyone know if ESPN scoring is customizable and IDP inclusive?
yes. i'll be in this year if we can have fewer players. i lost interest when i couldn't even field a full team.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 5 June 2008 16:12 (seventeen years ago)
idp was prob the best thing abt the league last year.
free live scoring isnt that big of a deal. i mean you can easily figure out yourself how someone is doing just from updated box scores
― johnny crunch, Thursday, 5 June 2008 16:21 (seventeen years ago)
Next year, I [i]will not be the commissioner...no way, no how! However, yeah...I think the Yahoo! standard for league approved trades is 1/3 disapproval and is probably the same in other fantasy leagues too.

Next year, I will not be the commissioner...no way, no how!
Oh, don't think I've forgotten. But I am eager to go ahead and start getting excited about it.
Also, to kevin's point, I say we keep the league to 12 teams or less this year.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 5 June 2008 22:18 (seventeen years ago)
not fewer teams, fewer positions on each team. in my other league we had smaller rosters and it made things more competitive.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 5 June 2008 22:22 (seventeen years ago)
1 qb, 1 rb, 2 wr, 1 te, 1 k, 2 idp?
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 5 June 2008 22:27 (seventeen years ago)
plus 1 team DEF and im down

League is GO!
I know I'm the interim commissioner/manager, but after everyone else signs up we'll have a poll and vote on other nominations. Also, if we've got a live draft date/time of SATURDAY 16 AUGUST 5:00 PM EDT. It can be changed if several people are busy that day and cannot participate. Look it over below and see if all the settings meet approval. :D

i am totally in! especially since my regular league has been torn asunder by a friend war the maturity of which would make grade schoolers ashamed.
― Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 14 June 2008 21:31 (seventeen years ago)
I guess it goes without saying, but since there are only 12 slots this year, it would be nice if everyone commits to sticking it out the whole season if you sign up. Orphaned teams suck.
― Johnny Fever, Saturday, 14 June 2008 21:53 (seventeen years ago)
Just saw this thread! I'm in if you haven't hit 12 teams yet.

I'm in. How do I access this private league?
― polyphonic, Saturday, 14 June 2008 23:00 (seventeen years ago)
yahh dudes me 3...check last years thread my team opened like 0-8 and i stuck it out nearly grindin back to .500
although there were obvs some extenuating circumstances w/ at least 1 team last yr that orphaning was understandable
― johnny crunch, Saturday, 14 June 2008 23:03 (seventeen years ago)
polyphonic, if you're signed up with ESPN already, this link should take you right to it: http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/leaguesetup/ownerinfo?leagueId=16937
If not, you'll have to create an account and then take it from there.
If that doesn't work, I may have to get everyone's email and do it that way (but surely it's not *that* private).
― Johnny Fever, Saturday, 14 June 2008 23:11 (seventeen years ago)
I guess it actually is that private. I just did a test and it looks like the only way I can send invites is by individual email.
SO, if you want to join the league, email pauletc (at) earthlink (dot) net and tell me.
― Johnny Fever, Saturday, 14 June 2008 23:17 (seventeen years ago)
OK, the Dobbstown Slackers are in, but OH NOES, I'll be in California during the draft. If we could do it a week or more earlier that would be great, but if not I'll pre-rank or have a laptop with me.
― Rock Hardy, Sunday, 15 June 2008 00:11 (seventeen years ago)

― Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 June 2008 11:22 (seventeen years ago)
i'm in and looking forward to the season.
does starting only one RB in a 12-team league sound weird to anyone else, though?
― MikeJonze, Monday, 16 June 2008 18:21 (seventeen years ago)
and no RB/WR/TE flex position?
― MikeJonze, Monday, 16 June 2008 18:22 (seventeen years ago)
Chicago Kevin suggested fewer starters, and I figured by keeping the RB pool a little deeper, more people could lay claim to good ones. WRs are a fucking dime a dozen, though.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 June 2008 18:26 (seventeen years ago)
no, it levels the field.
― chicago kevin, Monday, 16 June 2008 19:53 (seventeen years ago)
I think that was more a result of having 16 teams in the league last year. Fielding only 1 RB is a no-brainer. Two would make it at least a little bit more challenging to match up with your opponent. I mean, isn't every team in the NFL these days using at least 2 RBs, too? It's just weird to me that guys who are good fantasy contributors but don't fall into the top 12 RBs in the NFL wouldn't have a spot on my team – guys like Reggie Bush, Willie Parker, Ronnie Brown, Rudi Johnson, Darren McFadden, etc.
Think about. If everyone started 2 RBs, thats only 24 RBs being played every Sunday. Going by CBS Sportsline's 2008 Player Rankings, that would mean the least valuable RB would be Ronnie Brown. So it's not like any of us would be resorting to starting guys like J.J. Arrington or Maurice Morris on any given week. There's still good talent to be had about 35 RBs deep.
At the very least, a flex position where either a second RB (or a third WR or second TE) could be played would be nice and add some competitiveness to the league. That's just my opinion. If everyone else disagrees, I won't argue it anymore.
― MikeJonze, Monday, 16 June 2008 20:18 (seventeen years ago)
yeah, but there should still be some competitive edge, IMO.
― MikeJonze, Monday, 16 June 2008 20:19 (seventeen years ago)
I'm open either way, but I kind of like the idea of tighter, closer scoring games with a fewer number of starters.
Last year, kickers and IDPs usually ended up being the x factors anyway.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 June 2008 20:47 (seventeen years ago)
i don't care what you guys do, i won't be in the league. all i can tell you is that it makes picking the right match up that much more important, for all positions, but esp. for rb.
― chicago kevin, Monday, 16 June 2008 21:28 (seventeen years ago)
but I kind of like the idea of tighter, closer scoring games with a fewer number of starters.
^^ that's what we got in my other league. at first i was kind of "wtf, one rb and one rb/flex???" but as the year went along it proved to be a good system. plus if you lose one of your two stud rb's you're not done for the season. you don't lose ldt and wind up starting kevin faulk in his place.
― chicago kevin, Monday, 16 June 2008 21:30 (seventeen years ago)
You're not gonna be in?

plus if you lose one of your two stud rb's you're not done for the season. you don't lose ldt and wind up starting kevin faulk in his place.
not sure abt this tho. people will still stock their rosters w/ the good RBs and it'll all come down to who you start on that sunday

Ugh...I may have to drop out. I hate pre-ranking for the draft -- I've always decided on the fly based on the best available at the position I need. But there's no way I can be available for a draft between Aug. 11-24 -- will be on the road and in CA. Can the draft be moved to Aug 25 or later? 1st game is Sept 4...too tight a timeframe?

(Started Romo, Westbrook, Johnson + DeSean at flex.)

Semi-finals. I am down 4 points. Westbrook still left to play. LOVES IT.
― Mordy, Monday, 15 December 2008 06:37 (sixteen years ago)
I need Quintin Demps to get me 15 points tomorrow night to stay alive, which isn't out of reach considering Cleveland's special teams and offensive miscalculations.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 15 December 2008 06:46 (sixteen years ago)
Unfortunately, the guy I am going to play in the finals is likely going to win. He has been scoring between 130 and 140 consistently every week. I will get a 160 game, but then I'll get a 90 point game. And since this is a two-week long finals, he'll undoubtedly do better overall.
― Mordy, Monday, 15 December 2008 07:15 (sixteen years ago)
XP, you're in a league where you pick safeties?

― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Monday, 15 December 2008 17:34 (sixteen years ago)
I think McNabb is gonna cover 10 points. No problem.
― Mordy, Monday, 15 December 2008 17:38 (sixteen years ago)
This season is kind of pissing me off, since I'm putting up reasonable points now that it doesn't matter. Valuable info for next year, though
Speaking of next year: how many roster spots did we have last year? My memory says:QBRB x 2WR x 2WR/RBKDPDPDEF (team)
This year's scoring stat of 1 pt. for every 10 return yards has been totally crazy, in a good way, and I want to keep that.
― WmC, Monday, 15 December 2008 17:58 (sixteen years ago)
I hate FF with DPs. But -- I love ILX and I love Fantasy Football. Can I get in on the league for next year?
― Mordy, Monday, 15 December 2008 17:59 (sixteen years ago)
Don't see why not. I'll webmail you with an address to send your credit card details.
― WmC, Monday, 15 December 2008 18:02 (sixteen years ago)
(j/k)
i would vote against having return yards counting again because kick returners have had too much impact this year. i do feel like WR should get more points. in another league i'm in we had 1pt for a reception, which i liked. i guess you could also change it to 1pt for 10 receiving yards instead.
i like the suggested breakdown of players though, obv with a TE added. another bench spot wouldn't hurt.
― flavors of funyun (Roberto Spiralli), Monday, 15 December 2008 18:05 (sixteen years ago)
Oh yeah, forgot TE. Those bastards never do anything good for me.
― WmC, Monday, 15 December 2008 18:06 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, PPR is great. The cash league I was in this year was really a lot of fun. Starting: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 Flex, 1 TE, 1 D, 1 K. The bench was pretty huge (about 8 slots?), which was probably too large. But I liked the starting roster.
― Mordy, Monday, 15 December 2008 18:07 (sixteen years ago)
I vote that next year we go XTREME with the points, just to make everything more fun. I agree now (and pretty much ever since draft day) that we/I sort of fucked it up this year.
Standard roster + 2 IDPs + wicked high scoring.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 15 December 2008 22:50 (sixteen years ago)

― WmC, Thursday, 1 January 2009 16:44 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, I regretted the fact that I couldn't drop any of my receivers to pick up a return guy.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 1 January 2009 18:25 (sixteen years ago)
You could bench them, though, couldn't you? I had the same problem with Reggie Wayne, who wound up riding the pine most of the season.
― WmC, Thursday, 1 January 2009 19:17 (sixteen years ago)
I'm in favor of kick/punt return yardage next year, but maybe 1 pt. for every 20 yards instead of 10.
― WmC, Thursday, 1 January 2009 19:18 (sixteen years ago)
I could, but all three of my receivers were either guys who were undroppable or guys I would never drop, and I didn't have another roster spot I could free up. Actually, the way the rosters work on ESPN is pretty infuriating, imo. Too inflexible.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 1 January 2009 19:48 (sixteen years ago)
