The San-Dee-Egg-O, Super Chargers Thread

If the Chargers go 11-5 and miss the playoffs (which is very likely considering the schedules the Jags and Steelers get to play in the next two weeks), I don't even want to live anymore.

I heard rumor of a Philip Rivers + 2005 1st round pick for the Jets' first round pick. It would be the fifth pick overall, I believe, if the season ended today, and presents a chance to get AJ Hawk or maybe D'Brickashaw Ferguson. I'm all for it. Also like to see the Bolts pick up a veteran backup for Brees... Feeley does not instill great hope.

As a Lions fan, I'd trade you next year's first plus Charles Rogers (1 year left on the contract!!) for Rivers at this point ... we need somebody, ANYBODY, who is a QB prospect, you guys don't need Rivers anymore...

Nice win today though. I love the Bolts but I was also secretly hoping for an undefeated Indy season just to shut up those Miami jackasses. but yeah. Nice win. Keenan McCardell is a hall-of-famer now, i think..

Hmm, I think I'd do that deal.

I'd probably even throw in our #1.

I think Detroit should use their draft bonanza to beef up their defense and O-line. I wouldn't bet the farm on Phillip Rivers, the guy has not taken but a handful of snaps since he was in college, so it is pretty hard to tell if he is any good. I just don't know if Rivers is anymore of a lock than Harrington at this point. Rivers might be good, but who knows, he hasn't played.

The guy that is a backup that I think could be a good vet to pickup is John Kitna from Cinci. Kitna had a solid year two years ago (I think being a Pro Bowl alternate) and played OK last year when Palmer got hurt. I'd dump Garcia, bring in a good QB coach, try to get a guy like Kitna and keep Harrington around for one last shot.

There was also a story in the local paper about hometown guy Tim Couch and him trying to get back into health. People lay alot on Couch for being a bust, but the biggest reason is that he hurt his shoulder and throwing arm really bad. Couch played OK for the Browns when he wasn't getting sacked ten times a game.

I would not be suprised if in a year or two Tim Couch comes out of nowhere to be on a NFL roster again. Stranger things have happened, Jim Plunkett was a total bust for something like eight or nine years until he got it together and won two Superbowls with the Raiders.

For reference's sake, this is only the third time in team NFL history that the Chargers have made it to the AFC Championship. So it's kind of a big deal.

Contextually, as a Chargers fan, it's extra-gratifying to accomplish it in a year when the team was constantly derided, and after a complete overhaul of the coaching staff, ... with great contributions from the key replacements (Cromartie, Cooper, Wilhelm, Sproles, Clary, Weddle, Naanee, Jyles Tucker, etc.). All of those dudes played better than expected, and confirms that AJ Smith is one of the very best talent guys in the football.

And also, it turns out that it's fun to root for Norv Turner! Did you see his awesome salsa dance with Luis Castillo?

Yes! Principal Skinner can dance!

I guess I'd rather have Rivers + Castillo than Brees + Ferguson/Hawk, but I'm not sure anymore.

well, keep in mind that yall picked Cromartie with that year's first rounder, plus d'brickashaw is d'brickadogshit (lol@2@) - buuuut, you could've had haloti ngata with that fourth overall pick, and a ngata + castillo + williams line would be the best 34 line in the league.

lol d'brickaSUX huh

heh

heh just heh

Oh right, wrong draft.

I would've been ecstatic if the Chargers had wound up with Ngata, but I don't think they would've picked him. They still believed in Igor Olshanksy at that point, a recent 2nd round pick who is strong as hell. They almost definitely would've picked Ferguson, Hawk, Huff, or Sims over Ngata just based on perceived needs.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 16:19 (seventeen years ago)

Did you guys see Ngata on goal-line offense the other day? Dude is a masher.

let me tell you, in my day i have seen a good number of dancers doing their own personal dance, i'm talking a dozen or more of these characteristic dances, maybe up to as many as 20, and let me just say that LADAINIAN TOMLINSON'S LT STYLE ELECTRIC GLIDE is - without a doubt - one of those approx. 15-20 dances
