Obscure, irrelevant bowl games: C/D? S/D?

Since Southern Miss and Arkansas State have commenced a solid month of second-rate halftime shows, announcers in Hawaiian shirts, 6-5 Mountain West teams throwing for 600 yards, and way too many commercials for Gaylord Hotels.

So how about it? Does anyone ever watch these things? Are any of the games actually going to be any good? Any classic WTF moments from Carquest Bowls and EV1.net Houston Bowls past? And has anything ever rolled off the tongue quite so poetically as "The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl"?

These bowls serve one purpose in my life- to have something to watch on TV when I'm visiting my parents over the holidays.

I'm also saddened that the Cotton Bowl has become a second tier bowl game.

I had fun back in college getting drunk watching IU play in the Peach Bowl or Auto Parts'R Us Bowl. Did we win, I don't remember.

How is it in our football media saturated age that I only find out tonight that Carson Palmer has a brother and he is a pretty good college QB at UTEP?

hey, that BYU/Cal game was pretty darn great!

what can I say, I'm a junkie. I'll now be switching over to that there San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.

The Nevada-Central Florida game was great; UCF came back from 10 down in the last two minutes to tie and force OT, only to have their kicker shank an extra point and lose 49-48. The crowd on hand (Christmas Eve, Hawaii, two less-than-marquee names) maybe topped 5,000.

I didn't even watch the Cal/BYU game, and I'm a Cal fan!

wow. watching this Oregon/Oklahoma game .... it's official: the mighty Keith Jackson has turned into Pat Summerall. he sounds senile and oblivious.

...oh, but what a finish!

Oklahoma does have the best jersey name I have seen in awhile with their defensive lineman "AH YOU".

I know Michigan is down this year, but I was still suprised Nebraska won their bowl game. After the Raiders fell apart after the Superbowl, Callahan seemed to me to be one guy you did not want running your team.

The head dude for the Peach Bowl just said that the new 5-yr. contract with Chick-Fil-A allows them to take "Peach" out of the title and call it the Chick-Fil-A Bowl.

But "Peach" is such a comfortable word. "Chick-Fil-A" just makes me think of soggy sandwiches wrapped in foil.

And if I see another one of those goddamned "Eat Mor Chikin" commercials, I'm gonna dropkick my tv.

presumably this means it will never be scheduled for a sunday

j blount (papa la bas), Saturday, 31 December 2005 06:11 (nineteen years ago)

haha so it's pretty funny to be watching a rerun of the peach bowl not knowing the results, see miami kick their fg and then go 'hmm, i wonder who won' and then see the results. ye gods.
