Let's debate who's team's fans have suffered the most at the hands of their awful helmet-donning overlords.

I have. Me. I have been tormented by the men who don the Honolulu blue and silver; the gridiron gladiators who have never been to a Super Bowl (one of only three non-expansion teams w/ that dubious honor) and have only won one single playoff game in 40+ years.

As both a Lions and Browns fan, my misery index approaches Khartoum-like levels.

Yikes. I really can't say I have any complaints next to those stories.

I mean...Lions and the Browns?? Are you also a Cubs fan?

I haven't followed the Cubs since Dave Kingman went away.

My life has bottomed out to the point where I'm betting on the Steelers.

Is this really suffering or masochism at this point, then?

There are a lot of Bills fans in Toronto so there was a fair bit of suffering around here in the 90's. It slotted in nicely next to the usual Leafs-related suffering, with the Leafs making the final four twice around the same time as the Bills period of "can't quite win the big one" dominance. I felt sorry for the Bills -- they were a great team and wouldn't have minded seeing them finally win one. This attitude pissed off the Bills fans because as a Pats fan I was supposed to despise my divisional rivals lest I be viewed as a pussy (you know, more than I already was for being the only Pats fan in the city). Who's laughing now, BITCHEZZZZZ?

bills are too low on that list, cardinals probably are too

4 years in a row is the kinda cruel shit that no one should have to endure. I think I'd take a curse over that.

The Cardinals would be higher, but they would have to have fans to have fan misery. Bidwell still has to be the worse owner in the NFL.

I don't know about the Bills being higher, after all they were at least good for ten years in a row. Norwood missed a 47 yard field goal with a slight wind, it was not a chip shot and that part does not get remembered.

Carolina also had a player get killed in a wreck, Rae Carruth and a Superbowl winning coach lead them to a 1-15 season in the span of a year. That is a pretty bad.

The Bears have some of the worse owners in football, definitely the worse for a cherry franchise, but that is true of every team in that town (even the Sox who somehow won it all this year).

The Falcons have never had consecutive winning seasons, that is pretty bad. Even the Saints have had two winning years in a row.

Isn't there any kind of rule that says the NFL can remove an owner? Like, just hostile-takeover anything to do with Bidwell. Him and his stupid bow tie, who the hell does he think he is, Tucker Carlson? Well...he's not. He's crap. I had to "watch" football on the radio like 75% of the time I lived in AZ because they could NOT SELL OUT A SINGLE GAME, EVER. So not only were the Cards blocked out but so was everything else because of those stupid, stupid rules about blacking out everything if a team doesn't sell out the game. OTOH tickets to the games only cost about $0.75 so I went to the Giants games (this was back when the Cards were still confusingly "NFC East").

I'm still scarred by seeing the Buddy Ryan coached Cardinals play a dismal Falcons squad in the Georgia Dome. Almost put me off football forever.

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 15:14 (nineteen years ago)

Oh jesus christ Buddy Ryan, don't even start me on that sonofabitch.

Was Plummer on the Cardinals when Ryan still coached or was he after Ryan? TEAM OF MISERY.

I swear Chris Chandler quarterbacked both teams that day.

i am still an Oilers fan :(

ryan (ryan), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

Some of my first memories of following the NFL was the Houston Oilers with Dan Pastorini, Earl Campbell and Bum Phillips. I remember watching the Steelers beat them to go to their last Superbowl in the AFC title game in 79. That same year I remember watching the Cowboys with Roger Staubach in his last game get beat by the Rams in the divisional playoff game.

earlnash, Wednesday, 11 January 2006 20:06 (nineteen years ago)

Ah, '79. The year Monte Clark coached the Lions to a 2-14 record. I think the fans demanded that even the road games be blacked out.
