Do people in other countries actually watch football, or were they trying to make some kind-of snooty, backhanded European insult about us? I think it's the second one.

I think people are often of the opinion it's too long/complicated/they wear too much padding.
I enjoy watching it btw.

tomboto, I'm talking red blooded american to red blooded american. What else do we call "football"? oval shaped ball throw?

I read this board and enjoy doing so. I wish I could actually see games but I've yet to find a bar that shows those games. Normal TV does show the Superbowl though so I spend one night a year watching football till 6am. But no halftime show, only the usual crap ads and useless commentators who seem to know about as much about football as I do (so you know, not much).
I agree with wilter that on the whole people find football too long/complicated/too much padding, especially since there's rugby that looks a bit like it to most folks and where the players are not "pussies in padding" (as I've heard said once or twice).

Rugby and Australian rules football are tough sports, but if they played US football without pads or helmets people would be getting killed every week.

Australian rules isn't that tough. they're just big fit dudes who run around the field alot and do pretty unintense tackles on on each other. and pretend-fight every now and then.

rugby league pwnes btw
― wilter, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 03:52 (seventeen years ago)
Rugby league is a collision sport.
Australian Rules used to be a contact sport and is now an uncontested possession sport that the whole family can enjoy.

If Rugby played like US football they'd all be paraplegics after one game. Metal cleats ripping human flesh apart? Now Rugby's got that lock stock and/or barrel.
