IND @ JAC COLTS are rolling right now.
BAL @ DAL Hmm, two teams coming off very tough games. I will give the edge to BIRDS defense.

SD @ TB BOLTS since bucs QA situation is not cool.

MIA @ KC I've still picked FINS like every week but they're so much better than this schedule.
ARI @ NE PATS will wreck silly dome team at home.

NYJ @ SEA I would kill for HAWKS to steal this one.
HOU @ OAK COWS are streaking and will beat up the raiders.
ATL @ MIN FALCS in a must-win. Could be a great game.
PHI @ WAS I will reluctantly admit that IGS are looking dangerous.

IND @ JAC - The Jags don't like the Colts and I could see them playing up, but Indy should win.
BAL @ DAL - God I hope the Ravens win and smack Dallas in the mouth.
CIN @ CLE - I'm going with Cincy to pull the upset in the battle of the backup QBs.
PIT @ TEN - I want to take the Titans at home, but I'm taking the Steelers by a field goal.
SF @ STL - Who knows, I suppose the Rams at home.
SD @ TB - Tampa should win, but I kind of hope SD wins so they can blow it next week in Denver.
NO @ DET - Maybe NO will pull an Aint's and give the Lions a break...nah.
MIA @ KC - This is a trap game for Miami. The Dolphins should win, but I have a feeling they are going to lose.
ARI @ NE - It took awhile to get Cassel up to speed, but their offense is starting to work. I'm going with the Pats and I have a feeling that Arizona is going to go o=fer down the stretch.
BUF @ DEN - Denver should win.
NYJ @ SEA - The Jets are probably the best club, but they are the Jets and Seattle can be a tough place to win. I'll go upset Seahawks.
HOU @ OAK - Houston gets to .500 for the year.
ATL @ MIN - This should be a pretty good game. I'm leaning Atlanta right now.
PHI @ WAS - I'm going Philly.
CAR @ NYG - The Giants seem to have peaked early, but I think they will bounce back this week.
GB @ CHI - I hope the Bears murder the bums.

earlnash, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 00:00 (sixteen years ago)

IND @ JAC - indy is fraudulent imo - peter king types love to tout peyton (for obv reasons) but they were much better last year and lost @ home in their opening playoff game. i don't believe you, you need more people (where people = wins over good teams)
BAL @ DAL - i wish i could say baltimore here but i think dallas is kind of getting on a roll
CIN @ CLE - cin - wow @ this one - bengals have been playing aaiiiight lately
PIT @ TEN - titans seem banged up and not right mentally - i like the steelers in a dominating 19-6 victory
SF @ STL - niners are decent tho idk if singletary is the permanent answer - they'll win this though
SD @ TB - ahh my heart says the bucs but my head says the bolts >:(
NO @ DET - close! but the saints again
MIA @ KC - i think the chiefs are going to win - although since everyone is saying that the phins are going to overlook this maybe they won't. chiefs are scrappy and can get on a good roll offensively. i've seen too much of them sadly
ARI @ NE - ha man the pats are gonna str8 up murk zona
BUF @ DEN - broncos, easily
NYJ @ SEA - i guess i feel like the jets are either gonna come out really invigorated after last week or they are actually as mediocre as they've showed in the past few weeks. either way i like the jets close
HOU @ OAK - texans in a romp - big game for my mans andre
ATL @ MIN - rly looking forward to this one - i think the vikes win in a close and competitive game
PHI @ WAS - all the OMG EAGLEZ love stops here - sorry kevin keller :/
CAR @ NYG - The Giants seem to have peaked early, but I think they will bounce back this week.
GB @ CHI - I hope the Bears murder the bums.

I can see what you are saying on the Colts, though they did beat the Ravens and Steelers in Pittsburgh. I think they have the setup to win the ugly games, but if might not win the track meet this year oddly enough. SD seems to usually be tough matchup for the Colts, but Indy's D line was pretty decimated in the playoffs last year as they had lost Freeney, Rhaheem Brock and Robert Mathis played hobbled. If they can ride out and have Freeney, Mathis, Marvin Harrison (who maybe isn't what he once was, but he was missing a bit last year) and Bob Sanders healthy in the playoffs, they should make things interesting. I honestly think that the Colts having to use Dom Rhodes is an improvement right now over Addai. This is the most Tampa style team that Dungy has had in Indy, they don't win pretty. All that said, I couldn't pick them to win either.

Tennessee without Haynesworth is not the same team, when he got hurt last year they fell apart.

Sick thing is that if Dallas D is not just a fluke, they might be a scary club if they make the playoffs. Last few seasons their D has sucked in December, if it can ring up sacks like last week, I wouldn't want to play them.

I'm feeling Philly though as the dark horse club in the NFC. Their D is pretty good and they have just play called them out of some games. Philly has been kind of a stretch rally club under Andy Reid after McNabb's injuries, so I can see it happening again after things getting ugly.

I'm curious to see the Giants and Panthers, as I have not seen Carolina at all. I've watched the NYG's a ton over the past three years, so it will be interesting match up to see.

earlnash, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 03:40 (sixteen years ago)

Carolina has a reasonable D, two excellent RBs, a top 5 WR in Steve Smith, and a QB who under no circumstances should be trusted. I could see them rolling over the NYG on the ground but Delhomme will come back to haunt them sooner or later.

the ref (ed hochuli ha ha) (call all destroyer), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 04:03 (sixteen years ago)

yeah u might be right about the colts earl - i have such conflicted feelings about them though. i feel like im using a double standard w/ them cuz im luvin the steelers winning ugly and close but im not affording the same feelings to the colts cuz they used to be so dominant. otoh i don't think they are as good as everyone thinks esp. if they have to play in the cold on the road in the playoffs

i think this game against the jags will be a good indication. the jags have played them tough recently and they should be really up for this game despite being out of the playoff chase. if the colts pull it out w/ out some miracle turnovers or something it would be considered a solid win in my book

the usic man from the hilarious ilx message boards (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 04:12 (sixteen years ago)

basically, assuming they go play the winner of the west on the road in the first round, i think that they have a 50/50 shot against either of those teams

the usic man from the hilarious ilx message boards (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 04:15 (sixteen years ago)

then again i have irrational belief in the ability of the broncos so \ o_o /

the usic man from the hilarious ilx message boards (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 04:15 (sixteen years ago)

I'm sure there are some Broncos fans that would love to beat the Colts in the playoffs. Indy and the Colts have handed Denver some pretty harsh defeats over the last few seasons, including one in the snow when the drunken kicker (sounds like a Kung Fu movie) hit a FG to beat them on the last play. Denver could be a club that with a turnover could put Indy 21 down quick, which might test Manning into playing like a gunslinger, which has cost him a couple of times in the playoffs (at at least once come up EPIC).

Everybody talks about the Steelers and the weather and all, but they have lost a bunch of playoff games at home. Bill Cowher should thank his lucky stars they won it when it was not expected with mind you not a single home game in that run. He would be right beside Marv Levy, Bud Grant, his old boss Marty who won a bookoo of games but never the big one. It is a different sheriff in town, even if the club has a bunch of players leftover.

Almost five years ago to the day, Saints wide receiver Joe Horn scored a touchdown against the Giants, lifted up the pad on the goal post and pulled out a cell phone. The Giants have finally returned his call.

On a day when the team signed free-agent receiver Derek Hagan to aid a passing game lacking Plaxico Burress, the Giants also dialed up Horn and invited him for a visit, according to someone informed of the Giants' plans to meet with the 13-year veteran.

The person, who requested anonymity because the Giants don't publicly confirm free-agent visits, said Horn arrived in the area Tuesday night and will take a physical Wednesday. The person also said it's unclear if he'll also be asked to work out but said a signing could be imminent.

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 05:02 (sixteen years ago)

Mike Brown is one of my favorites and it is sad he always gets hurt, cause he is a dude. Speaking of pulling a win out of the hat, Mike Brown did a couple of those in that one magic year when they came out of nowhere to win the division with Dick Jauron as head coach. That club was all about turning the flukey fumble or blocked kick into a win.

I think the Lions going 0-15 might qualify them for a BCS bowl against Utah.

earlnash, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 05:04 (sixteen years ago)

Here is a web reminder for some who might forget some of Mike Browns heroics a few years back (thank you Independant UK).

American Football: Brown repeats miracle for Bears escapologists

By Nick Halling
Tuesday, 6 November 2001

Every once in a while, the sporting gods look down upon the travails of mere athletic mortals and dispense blessings in abundance on a lucky recipient. That is the only explanation for what has happened to Mike Brown of the Chicago Bears over the last couple of weeks.

A solid if unspectacular workman, Brown was a relative unknown until last weekend, when he intercepted an errant San Francisco pass, returning it for a touchdown to win the game for his team.

That should have been the modest Brown's single moment in the spotlight, but the higher powers seemingly had other ideas. The Bears had managed to send their contest against the Cleveland Browns into overtime on Sunday night, only for Brown to be anointed once more. The Cleveland quarterback, Tim Couch, threw a pass which was batted up in the air by a Bear defender, only to drop invitingly into the hands of Brown, who raced 16 yards untouched for the winning score, Chicago rallying from 21-7 down with less than 30 seconds left to prevail 27-21.

"I don't know what you'd call it," said a bemused Brown. "A higher power, destiny. Yeah, that's it, destiny, that's the word." The Cleveland coach, Butch Davis, also presumably believes in the vagaries of higher powers after seeing his side lose the game in absurd circumstances.

Chicago scored what seemed a consolation touchdown with 28 seconds left when the quarterback Shane Matthews threw a nine-yard pass to Marty Booker. The Bears then recovered the onside kick, only for Matthews to complete the miracle as time expired, dropping a 34-yard pass into the hands of James Allen to tie the game. With such forces on their side, Brown's interception was simply a matter of predestination.
