quick q: why were there always cars on the field during the 70s...? trust me -- it's true. i want some answers.

If you want something that need explanation, next time you see the clip on 'The Drive' between the Broncos and Browns, check out Pat Bowlen's coat.
I swear if you watch enough of those old Steelers and Raiders clips, you could about call a 15 yard unnecessary roughness penalty on every play.

well it's funny you mention this because i'm currently on the '76 raiders for the second time, and just finished the two steelers beforehand. these are the dirtiest teams in the entire history of the world. the raiders own up to it tho, telling you all about their illegal cast-pads and how they'd fake injuries and shit. madden is so PLEASED with these stories, and then so delighted when other teams get penalties during these stories -- why is he not the commish?
but jesus i mean straight up, there are clips of these dudes punching each other in the face and no one cares. there's also a great clip in steelers '75 where joe greene just kicks a cleveland brown in the balls for no apparent reason?! i'm certain that even in the car-parking chimp-loving john-madden-smoking-on-the-sidelines 70s this was illegal.

That AFC Title game on ice in Three Rivers between the Raiders and Steelers was freaking rough. That late shot on Lynn Swann knocked him out cold. You watch those old games and I swear a half dozen players would get suspended if they did that shit now. The QBs get freaking killed.

That is true, the NFL hit its Zenith in the 70s. There have been goodness afterwards, but that smoking on the sidelines, doing coke on the training table and checking out the game plan by the bar light days are sadly gone.
Do you think Don Shula had to hire private dicks to keep an eye on Mercury Morris or Manny Fernandez? Hell no.
― earlnash, Wednesday, 28 January 2009 04:48 (sixteen years ago)
is this stuff on the net? sounds dope
― jordy (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 28 January 2009 04:49 (sixteen years ago)

The Holy RollerThe Sea of HandsThe Immaculate ReceptionThe Ghost to the PostThe Hail Mary
That is football with balls. The Raiders were tied up in most of those big classic plays.

anyone in nyc is welcome, as always, to come watch these with us. best eps in my mind: a couple the steelers ones (mean joe greene and lynn swann is <3), the max mcgee plays drunk ep, '86 giants aka phil simms talks about how he was scared of parcells while taylor straight up ridicules the coach for 45 minutes, john madden's cheaters '76, and the steve young 9ers because steve young is completely batshit insane and jaw-dropping intense.
tho, to be honest, these dudes even make the pats look human and sort of appealing (no offense dar1a and jhosh). except the one with bruschi - he comes across like a cock.

the first couple pats ones are good -- i don't like the one with tedy, he just comes off like a douche in it imo! the others are pretty good!

― NFL RUNOFF miss u plaxico (daria-g), Wednesday, 28 January 2009 05:14 (sixteen years ago)
yes apparently he is a sociopathic monster, universally loathed by teammates and civilians alike
― mad loli vamp bone (cankles), Wednesday, 28 January 2009 05:22 (sixteen years ago)
well it shows in his interviews in america's game and that's my story and i am sticking to that. i had no idea anything about him besides he died and then reanimated as a zombie corpse when belichick hit him with finger lightning, or something.

whoa: The director Sam Peckinpah once told Steve Sabol that he got the idea for the classic slow-motion gunfight scene in the 1969 movie “The Wild Bunch” after watching a Super Bowl highlights film Mr. Sabol had made.

The Autumn wind is a pirateBlustering in from seaWith a rollicking song he sweeps alongSwaggering boisterously. His face is weatherbeatenHe wears a hooded sashWith a silver hat about his headAnd a bristling black mustacheHe growls as he storms the countryA villain big and boldAnd the trees all shake and quiver and quakeAs he robs them of their gold. The Autumn wind is a RaiderPillaging just for funHe'll knock you 'round and upside downAnd laugh when he's conquered and won.
