Mr. Que, Friday, 30 January 2009 01:57 (sixteen years ago)

putting my name in the q dooms nachos no doubt but be that as it may they are the perfection of human food and to say otherwise condemns one to a nacholess afterlife

J0hn D., Friday, 30 January 2009 01:58 (sixteen years ago)

wings 4 life

pwner's manual (omar little), Friday, 30 January 2009 01:59 (sixteen years ago)

nachos are fairly awesome i will grant you that--but i love me some wings

Mr. Que, Friday, 30 January 2009 01:59 (sixteen years ago)

you'll both be begging for nachos in Hell and Satan will be all "fuck you, I saw how you voted on the nachos poll"

J0hn D., Friday, 30 January 2009 02:00 (sixteen years ago)

i will take my chances with satan--i hear satan likes wings too

Mr. Que, Friday, 30 January 2009 02:10 (sixteen years ago)

but in his lonely room he remembers the nachos he enjoyed before the Fall

J0hn D., Friday, 30 January 2009 02:11 (sixteen years ago)

enjoy your chips and cheese whiz in the clouds, god boy

pwner's manual (omar little), Friday, 30 January 2009 02:12 (sixteen years ago)

in hell i'll have memories of nachos, along with delicious savory spicy wings.

Mr. Que, Friday, 30 January 2009 02:20 (sixteen years ago)

the beauty of life among the blessed is that we will also get wings, we just won't like them as much

J0hn D., Friday, 30 January 2009 02:26 (sixteen years ago)

Nachos, to me, are food for watching sports live at the venue, whereas wings are the sort of thing you tear through while watching at home. Both of them are so perfect within those specific contexts that I cannot reasonably compare the two.

C-L, Friday, 30 January 2009 02:38 (sixteen years ago)

angels can't eat their own wings, nor is there salsa in heaven, i read it in the bible

Mr. Que, Friday, 30 January 2009 02:50 (sixteen years ago)

Whoa whoa whoa, if chips and salsa are going to factor into the nacho side of the equation, then nachos are basically unstoppable.

C-L, Friday, 30 January 2009 03:04 (sixteen years ago)

no one said anything about chips

Mr. Que, Friday, 30 January 2009 03:06 (sixteen years ago)

what KIND of nachos are we talking about? i find that it is much, much easier for a random sports bar (or even vaguely reputable place) to completely f up nachos than it is for them to completely f up wings is the thing here. i voted wings on this basis -- they're a more strict discipline, whereas when you say nachos you could mean some awesome from-a-mexican-joint-made-by-authentic-ideas kind of guac and beans and stewed meats (if you're into it) and jalepenos explosion OR you could mean this

http://adweek.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/nachos.jpg

and this? is not ok, or edible.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 30 January 2009 03:18 (sixteen years ago)

let us not forget

Mr. Que, Friday, 30 January 2009 03:22 (sixteen years ago)

that's an excellent point.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 30 January 2009 03:24 (sixteen years ago)

wings is the right answer but I would like someone to supply me with some organic, local, hippy high quality wings.

Ed, Friday, 30 January 2009 03:33 (sixteen years ago)

wings!!

jordy (J0rdan S.), Friday, 30 January 2009 03:39 (sixteen years ago)

Nachos is all about what you put into it.

Good wings are still going to be fried/baked chicken with some sauce. You can put tricked out chicken on nachos.

Henceforth natchos > wings.

Even vegans probably could make some wicked nachos, I bet no amount of tofu can make a good wing.

earlnash, Friday, 30 January 2009 03:56 (sixteen years ago)

you CAN do those things but there's too wide of a variation hence a vote for wings.

btw i got wings ^_^

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 30 January 2009 05:04 (sixteen years ago)

max, Friday, 30 January 2009 14:32 (sixteen years ago)

I really am quite stunned by you people fronting for nachos.

quincie, Friday, 30 January 2009 15:42 (sixteen years ago)

no ultimate mac and cheese = no credibility

microsoft and I decided to do some t-shirts (forksclovetofu), Friday, 30 January 2009 15:45 (sixteen years ago)

honestly nachos are good when done right but seriously they're not even as good as having tortilla chips with fresh salsa or guac? they get fucking soggy and gross. THERE, I SAID IT. i mean i'm not gonna turn down an offer of real, good nachos (again, guys, there is a LOT of variety in what you get when you order nachos which is another point for wings) but if i'm sitting around watching the game in a bar and the menu offers nachos or wings, i'm going with wings every time.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 30 January 2009 15:47 (sixteen years ago)

dude i hate to break it to you but no one associates mac & cheese with sporting events is the thing.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 30 January 2009 15:47 (sixteen years ago)

even if it is deep fried mac & cheese bites, which I have had, and frankly cannot recommend.

quincie, Friday, 30 January 2009 15:54 (sixteen years ago)

btw furthermore on this "tremendous debate" that is a not-even-debate because seriously guys nachos? but chilaquiles are better than nachos and i recommend you get those instead (probably not helpful advice for john d)

xpost ugh deep fried mac & cheese bites are just so disgusting, i was conned into eating one by a coworker.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 30 January 2009 15:54 (sixteen years ago)

let's discuss

true or false: because vegetarians cannot eat chicken meat, they need a tasty, wing like equivalent in their dietary arsenal. this equivalent is probably best found in nachos.

Mr. Que, Friday, 30 January 2009 15:57 (sixteen years ago)

^^^ what about jalepeno poppers

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 30 January 2009 15:57 (sixteen years ago)

chilaquiles is a breakfast food

max, Friday, 30 January 2009 15:57 (sixteen years ago)

there is some really good, solid discussion in this thread. good job as always ILNFL.

the answer, for the reasons pointed out above, is wings. maybe really really transcendent nachos could top wings, but avg. nachos vs. avg. wings = avg. wings every single time.

another thing is that if it is just you or if you are with your weird friend who doesn't like bar food you can get an order of wings for yourself and not feel like a complete glutton, whereas i could never in good conscience order nachos when i'm going solo.

call all destroyer, Friday, 30 January 2009 15:58 (sixteen years ago)

There is no mac & cheese bites shortage which proves God is a spiteful god.

mullah mangenius (brownie), Friday, 30 January 2009 15:58 (sixteen years ago)

all I'm saying is fuck a vegetarian in this "debate."

quincie, Friday, 30 January 2009 15:59 (sixteen years ago)

but a vegetarian began this debate we have to think of them

Mr. Que, Friday, 30 January 2009 15:59 (sixteen years ago)

Maybe it is the impassioned defenses here, but you know what, I am getting off the fence and voting for wings. The Schef is right, really. I have had subpar nachos many times, and had some complete nacho failures amongst the many nachos I have eaten, but I do not recall having an experience with wings that really went south on me. Even if unspectacular, the wings remain solid.

I am sorry, J0hn. If all nachos struck with the same pleasure as those served at high school sporting events and Raging Waters water slide fun park, I would be right there with you.

C-L, Friday, 30 January 2009 16:00 (sixteen years ago)

PREDICTION: because this is ilx and it's friday and this thread is about food, in 300 posts this thread will degrade into namecalling and yelling about which is the best kind of cheese to put on yr burger

Mr. Que, Friday, 30 January 2009 16:00 (sixteen years ago)

chilaquiles is a breakfast food

― max, Friday, January 30, 2009 10:57 AM

only if you subscribe to the idea that one can't eat cereal for lunch. food nazi.

anyway true fact: i did not eat a chicken wing until i was 20.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 30 January 2009 16:00 (sixteen years ago)

needs of vegetarians really shouldn't have any impact here. FACT: vegetarians don't watch NFL.

quincie, Friday, 30 January 2009 16:01 (sixteen years ago)

i know two vegetarians who watch the nfl but they're the kind of vegetarians that when we have potlucks and i bring over some carnitas or some sausages to give to the meat-eaters i come over and they are stuffing their faces with these things and declaring whatever occasion that is to be a "veggie moratorium" so i don't know if i trust them.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 30 January 2009 16:02 (sixteen years ago)

i only eat locally grown wings

mullah mangenius (brownie), Friday, 30 January 2009 16:02 (sixteen years ago)

wait isn't dar1a a vegetarian??! she is not a blow-with-the-wind veggie-moratorium one either, i think...

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 30 January 2009 16:04 (sixteen years ago)

dar1a is like the opposite of a vegetarian, which is one of her many outstanding qualities.

quincie, Friday, 30 January 2009 16:06 (sixteen years ago)

why did i think she was a vegetarian? i think because she ordered veggie burgers at temp hall one time??? ok then i'm back to only knowing 2 vegetarian football fans, and they are fakers.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 30 January 2009 16:07 (sixteen years ago)

Alton Brown was doing wings the other night but I wasn't paying any attention, so I just looked up his recipe on the web. No frying -- steam the wings for 10 minutes, then roast them for 40 minutes (!) at 425˚ (!!).

I can see the steaming, but that sounds like way too long to roast at that temp.

― WmC, Friday, January 30, 2009 9:55 AM (Yesterday) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

This recipe works really well. Crispy skin, meat falling off the bone, and you don't end up with a pot of hot oil to deal with afterward. Will be making a massive batch with that method tomorrow.

josephcharles, Saturday, 31 January 2009 20:57 (sixteen years ago)

Wings Fo' Evah. Seriously. I had a huge lunch, and prolly won't eat anything terribly large for dinner, but if someone were to show up with 24 hot wings and some blue cheese dressing, I could CRUSH it without pausing for a breath.

k3vin k., Sunday, 1 February 2009 01:26 (sixteen years ago)

the results are skewed thanks to site new answers attracting angry pro-microwave vegetarians who aren't football fans over from ile. i really hate that feature of the site and i wish there was a way to disclude ilnfl threads from it tbh. i mean there are not 40 ppl who even occasionally post here! the real vote is in the commentary and i think we know who won that.
