I like him better as a comic than as an actor, I guess.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Friday, 10 July 2009 18:20 (fifteen years ago)

it's great seeing him in it, and i'd watch kevin corrigan in anything (which you kind of have to sometimes), but the whole thing's just a little cartoony.

~*~*~*~*GAMES AS ART*~*~*~*~ (cankles), Friday, 10 July 2009 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

btw this is the exact opposite of what my philadelphian dad did in his life fyi -- it seems more likely and realistic in the viceversa than it does in this proposed version here because, fucking eagles fans amirite

two months pass...

this was pretty good! the script is kinda bare-bones but the cast does pretty well. some saddo moments but overall its funny.

s'OK... This is basically the gridiron version of The King of Comedy, only nowhere as good. I don't much like Siegel (wrote The Wrestler) as a screenwriter or a director. The casting of Oswalt, Corrigan and Michael Rapaport tells you they sledgehammer the URBAN CAUCASIAN LOSERS angle.

The radio call-in host is done by some really irritating guy I've seen on SNY shows who has a croaky razorblady voice that's a pity if it's natural and worth an armbar if it's affected, as I suspect.

kinda didn't like this; found it amazingly obvious and kinda boring and depressing. Like an extended Onion article. Oswalt was okay tho'.

lol @ the dvd packaging. Looks like a Disney film.

not so much depressing as predictable and mopey

i was kind of hoping the big reveal would be he was the philly fan too. predictable and mopey is about right, not really impressed with anti-epiphany type stories

you easily missed by far the best part if you didn't make it to the climax.

the movie is hella uncomfortable, mopey, etc but the final scene at sharkey's is genuine LOL for several minutes.

okay, I'll fast-forward to the last twenty.

get to where he's in philly and wait to the payoff. the payoff is really funny. i might be biased due to my instincts to also do what he did.

this movie is garbage

waka shame (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 24 January 2010 06:30 (fifteen years ago)

no movie that involves a climax in which patton oswalt [SPOILER ALERTS] michael rapaport in a bar and then says [SPOILER ALERTS] is garbage. that scene made the entire movie for me because it was totally "ok they're going to do some horrible bullshit" and then no, [SPOILER ALERTS]! seriously that minute of the movie was so hilarious to me that i forgave a lot of the really uncomfortable shit instantly.

everyone kills people (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Sunday, 24 January 2010 06:34 (fifteen years ago)

♖♕♖ (am0n), Sunday, 24 January 2010 07:00 (fifteen years ago)

The payoff was good, but Patton Oswalt is a seriously bad actor*, and that script is so dire.

(*great comedian tho!)

lol @ them erasing the cardinals numbers/names/logos

waka shame (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 24 January 2010 07:17 (fifteen years ago)

I thought this movie was just fine. nice little slice-of-life movie with good atmosphere. didn't succeed on all levels and I found the, uh, fallout from what happens at the end kind of unbelievable.

I actually found myself wishing this movie had been a tad less intentionally underwritten - more Hollywood, I guess. Like... watching the extras, it was obvious that they intentionally stifled Oswalt to make him seem like more of a dim schlub, but I think it might have been better had they let him write his radio station rants in his own style. Patton has a great feel for language, but it's not like it's highbrow Harvard educated shit. I don't see the point of getting a dude like Oswalt to be in your movie and then suppressing everything fun about him.

I also felt like the climax/conclusion could have been a little more cleverly done. It was kind of a let down for me.
