no idea what they call it, and i'm pretty lousy at keeping up with this stuff, but like post your offseason moves here (since it is all like post-sbxl now) (dude what about the pro bowl?!??!).

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 06:45 (nineteen years ago)

that would be so awesome. did anyone see that clip of kyle orton mic'd up in-game, talking to one of his teammates on the sideline? "i dont care if i only make three throws a game, as long as we win. i'm a nihilist, i don't believe in anything!!"

Did he immediately throw a ferret into the team hot tub afterwards? If so, my opinion of Kyle Orton increases.

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

So where does Edge, Alexander and Owens end up?

I figure Alexander will end up back with Seattle.

Edge wants to play for the Dolphins, but considering they have Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, I don't see it happening. I will be suprised if he is back in Indy next year. I figure the Colts will sign up Reggie Wayne, build up the D and try to draft a couple of backs.

Rivers getting shipped out has to depend on how bad Bree's shoulder comes out of surgery. I can't remember if it was his throwning arm or not that got screwed up.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 23:14 (nineteen years ago)

i heard somewhere that denver might be interested in trading for rickey williams

three weeks pass...
So the Chargers are letting Drew Brees walk?

What are they thinking? Is this a ploy and figure they can get him back at a better rate or something? Is Brees injury more than let on? I don't get this one.

The Colts are gambling with Edge go free agency, but I think the Chargers are betting the house a bit more.

There are rumors (probably started by ESPN) that the Dolphins may be trying to trade for Culpepper.

So the Chargers are letting Drew Brees walk?

What are they thinking? Is this a ploy and figure they can get him back at a better rate or something? Is Brees injury more than let on? I don't get this one.

This whole thing is completely killing me. I mean, I love Brees. Just love the guy. I'm willing to give Rivers a shot, but to let Brees go for NOTHING? Unbelievable. At least you can get a pick for Rivers. Let Feeley or some other veteran guy (Collins? Garcia?) start a game or two until Brees is healthy and then let the guy play!

The weirdest thing is that so many people have mentioned that Brees wasn't AJ Smith's guy, but Smith was former Bolts GM Butler's head assistant when the Bolts drafted Brees. I gotta think he was involved in the decision to draft Drew then, so why is Drew persona non gratis now?

Jimmy Mod: The Prettiest Flower In The Pond (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 18:34 (nineteen years ago)

I wonder if that means the Raiders or Vikings will jump in the Brees sweepstakes.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 18:57 (nineteen years ago)

Brees signs with the Saints. 6 years, 60 million, 10 million signing bonus.

Well, that sorts that out.

Will the Raiders draft Jay Cutler with the 7th pick if he's available, trade up to the Saints to get Vince Young, or drop to pick someone like Brodie Croyle?

And what's with the Jets re-signing Pennington and yet still considering a trade for Patrick Ramsey? Does this mean they're not drafting a QB?

1 Houston Texans: Bush, obviously.
2 New Orleans Saints: Don't need a quarterback, so... D'Brickashaw Ferguson? Trade down? AJ Hawk?
3 Tennessee Titans: Matt Leinart or Young, obviously.
4 New York Jets: If they have Pennington and Ramsey, they gotta go defense here, right? Mario Wiliams? AJ Hawk?
5 Green Bay Packers: They already have Aaron Rodgers, so do they go with defense? Or maybe stretch to pitch a running back?
6 San Francisco 49ers: Already have a qb. Definitely should grab a defensive guy if D'Brick is off the board.
7 Oakland Raiders: Seems like a pretty solid chance that Vince Young or Matt Leinart is on the board at this point, but definitely should have the option of picking up Jay Cutler here.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 19:27 (nineteen years ago)

Supposedly the Saints want Mario Williams and are willing to trade down for a team that wants Leinart or Young. The same article also stated the Jets were interested in Vince Young.

The Ravens must figure the way to end their passing problems is getting Jamal Lewis and Mike Anderson and just running the ball 50 times a game.

The Saints did put up a whole lot of cash for a QB with a broken wing, it definitely will be a wait and see if it is a good signing. They do not have much of a line and even if Deuce McAllister and Joe Horn are healthy, that isn't quite as impressive as LT and Gates. Brees' should definitely give his agent a box of cigars or booze, as I think it is a great deal for him.

I also like how Edge in that press conference said honestly going to Zona was about the cash and he knows it is a longshot that they will be competitive. It was much more believable than Emmitt Smith's "we are going to win" speech when he took the money to go into the NFL desert.

Tiki Barber just interviewed a journalist from the Daily Mirror about finding an Al-Qaeda cave base in Afghanistan.

I am assuming that the Cowboys are taking T.O., but I don't know who the hell is going to pick up KJ.

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 15 March 2006 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

Tennessee is looking like they might get it together this year, but I'm betting it'll be 08 before they get playoff ready. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if McNair gets badly nailed with a blown out knee or a decapitation in, say, game 7 with a 3-4 record and Leinart takes em to the first round.
I love him to death, but it's time for Steve to backseat it already.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 16 March 2006 18:53 (nineteen years ago)

I had no idea KJ was 33!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Sunday, 19 March 2006 23:12 (nineteen years ago)

If they are going to go after Leinart, they will probably deal Volek, as there were people trying to trade for him. I'm just not sure that is the smart thing to do when your D is like 29th in the league. The Titans have not been able to replace Bruce Matthews or Javon Kearse either. Whether it is the line or not, Chris Brown has not looked nearly as flashy as when he was spelling Eddie George.

earlnash, Sunday, 19 March 2006 23:40 (nineteen years ago)

I think Volek _could_ start in the NFL; but I think the Titans can't handle the heat of passing on a potential franchise qb when they're starting Steve "Let me just pop this back into the socket" McNair.
I'd be dancing in the streets if there's some sort of freak accident that slips Bush to #3.
I _do_ lament the death of our running game and I totally agree about the D, but they had some serious injury and legal problems last year; hopefully they'll not look quite so woeful in 06.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 20 March 2006 00:35 (nineteen years ago)

I have to wonder about that Vinateri signing. It is almost like the Colts just bought themselves a multi-million dollar voodoo doll.

I just hope Vinateri can actually kick off. The Colts have had to keep a second kicker on the roster for long periods of time to handle kickoffs because Vanderjagt was so terrible at putting the ball deep.

I guess Griese is an insurance policy or is he expected to compete for the job? I suppose this is to push Grossman and if he breaks, then they have somebody for Orton 'the extistential' QB to haunt. Not that Griese has any inner torment or anything with his dad being in the hall of fame, following Elway in Denver, then taking over for a guy that won a Superbowl in Tampa. Maybe Griese and Orton can exchange notes on Kierkegaard on the sidelines.

Aaron Brooks to the Raiders is an interesting signing. Does that mean they're not drafting Vince Young, or does it mean that they are? Because Aaron Brooks is a pretty similar player to Young, but he's also very young for a retread. However, if you want to teach Young how to play QB, is Brooks the right role model? I don't think so. So I'm guessing they pass on a quarterback at 7 and take a defender or maybe that Maryland TE.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 23 March 2006 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

The Raiders have usually gone for picking a vet QB off of the scrap heap and a couple of times came up big with Plunkett and Gannon. They also took on Jeff Hostetler, Jay Schroeder and Kerry Collins with less success.

I think getting Brooks makes sense, but he could go either way. Some of the press seem to think Haslett was a pretty decent coach in N.O., but his clubs were always a freaking mess and could seem to always find new ways to lose games. Brooks had some good streaks, but he also at times played downright fugly.

The Raiders defense probably needs as much work as the offense and neither were very good, but I don't think they are too far from being respectable.

So is Baltimore picking up Steve McNair a bit bigger deal now with Big Ben hurt and Palmer's knee injury?

McNair didn't play too bad last year and he is going to be re-up'ed with Derek Mason in B-more, but Mr. Air McNair has taken alot of shots over the years.

Forty-NEINers amirite?

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 16 June 2006 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

The real answer is that it does not matter who plays WR for the Niners considering their QBs. I don't see much passing offense coming from Alex Smith and Trent Dilfer.

Being a Bengals fan, I don't mind seeing the 49ers in hard times.

SF also has your typical ND football player in Arnaz Battle, who is not quite good enough to play either WR or RB.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Saturday, 17 June 2006 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

I actually think that the Niners will be much improved on offense this year. Lloyd was basically garbage last year... tons of drops, little effort in most of the games I watched (a lot, since they're always on tv here). The offensive line will be MUCH improved with a healthy Jonas Jennings and a healthier Newberry, and the addition of Larry Allen, and the improvement of Harris, Snyder and Baas. Meanwhile, Eric Johnson and Vernon Davis should give Smith plenty of opportunities to pass the ball. The real question is whether Gore and Barlow can add anything in terms of rushing the ball.

And beyond that, the Niners defense should be considerably worse than last year. They added next to nobody, and lost Julian Peterson.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Saturday, 17 June 2006 20:18 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, peterson was probably the last guy they needed to lose, especially to a strong division rival whose most prominent weakness as of last season was its passing d.

i didn't see any niner games last year, or if I did I immediately forgot them, so i dunno how they're gonna look on offense. tbh I would be perfectly happy if seattle continued pissing on them until the end of time. I can never see SF lose too much. goooooooooooooooo squawks!!!!!!!
