Bengals, Cowboys, Pats, Packers
― Fetchboy, Thursday, 7 January 2010 20:20 (fifteen years ago)
i am excitedly anticipating whatever hilarious mishap causes the 'boys to throw their game away. bengals-jets is going to be 3-0 one way or the other for the chance to be humped by indy. pats will win their only playoff game here and somehow it will involve baltimore being heartbreakingly unlucky or stupid. green bay will play a great game and put up nice looking numbers, and may not even notice that they have lost until they get back to wi and see it on the news.

Cribbs expressed his disappointment on his Twitter feed on Thursday: "I'm sorry guys i don't want to seem greedy but fair is fair & there is no way around it, i'm the best at what I do but paid the lowest. Hmmm."

um meanwhile
Amazingly, even after the NFL won the case, it asked the Supreme Court to dramatically expand the ruling and determine that the teams act as a single entity not only for marketing hats and gear, but for pretty much everything the league does. It was an odd request -- similar to my asking an official to review an 80-yard pass of mine that the official had already ruled a touchdown.
OOH GET YOUR MR. 80-YARD-TD-PASS! braggin 2010! also drew brees shouldn't you be practicing and not writing 50 million word essays on anti-trust law for the Post?

― k3vin k., Monday, 11 January 2010 01:25 (fifteen years ago)
Oh no, 4th and 26 was way worse. I was watching it with some people who didn't like the Packers because of the nonstop love affair with Brett Favre, and they started taunting me right after McNabb completed it (to Freddie Mitchell, UCLA alum, which is the only good thing I could take from it), and I basically got so upset that they were all like "Whoa, OK, sorry" and then I felt like I had some rage issues that needed to be worked on. Like on the list of all-time inappropriate responses to sports I've ever had, that was definitely top 5.
― C-L, Monday, 11 January 2010 01:59 (fifteen years ago)

Just got back from watching that amazing Packers/Cardinals game.
Two observations I'm sure have been made over-and-over now (so apologies in advance): The Ravens had almost as many points as Joe Flacco had passing yards (wtf?) and Kurt Warner had more touchdowns than incompletions (WTF!)
― Daniel, Esq., Monday, 11 January 2010 02:25 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, there were lots of missed penalties on both sides in this game. I was watching it with some people and we tried to get mad about like Fitzgerald pulling OPI on that sick touchdown catch he made, and then about the masking on the last play, but for whatever reason I can't get super-worked up about it, there's not really anything that'll come from it other than making us seem like the "WE ARE AMERICA'S GREATEST VICTIMS" kind of fans. We maybe could have won if a few calls happened (or didn't happen), but we also could have won if we had been better at defense, and could have won if Rodgers hadn't overthrown Jennings on the first play in overtime.
― C-L, Monday, 11 January 2010 02:30 (fifteen years ago)
Can't be upset by the effort of either team. Both quarterbacks were hitting players in stride, in places no defender could reach, splitting coverage. I can't see anyone having anything but respect for both teams. No reason for Packers fans to feel badly at all!
― Daniel, Esq., Monday, 11 January 2010 02:33 (fifteen years ago)
Aaron Rogers is a an amazing quarterback.
Kurt Warner, too, obv.
― Daniel, Esq., Monday, 11 January 2010 02:34 (fifteen years ago)
watching kurt warner play like a HOFer, waffle on retirement after the season, and make leinart wait another season is like the reverse feelings i had when favre was doing it to rodgers.
― A™ machine (sic) (omar little), Monday, 11 January 2010 02:38 (fifteen years ago)
Rt. Warner hasn't been jerking Leinart's chain at all, is he?
I mean, to be fair, Farve wasn't jerking Rodgers' chain while Farve was still the starting Packers quarterback. He only was unfair when he flirted with the idea of returning after his first retirement.
― Daniel, Esq., Monday, 11 January 2010 02:40 (fifteen years ago)
iirc
― Daniel, Esq., Monday, 11 January 2010 02:41 (fifteen years ago)
is leinart actually slated to be the starter once warner retires though? really?
also, i realized during tonight's game that usually i get super annoyed when the announcing crew spends most of their time talking about how great the qb is playing, but if they are talking about rodgers, it's alright.
looking forward to watching larry fitzgerald play more football
― kicker conspiracy (s. suisham ha ha) (daria-g), Monday, 11 January 2010 02:53 (fifteen years ago)
I'm sure he is! Leinart was a big draft pick.
― Daniel, Esq., Monday, 11 January 2010 02:54 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, I see why the Packers invested their future in Rogers.
Not just Larry, but Steve Breaston and Early Doucet too. Cards are way way deep at the talented WR spot.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 11 January 2010 02:55 (fifteen years ago)
xxp yeah but he may not be, y'know, good. i assume he'd get a season at least tho
― call all destroyer, Monday, 11 January 2010 02:55 (fifteen years ago)
I think the story goes that Favre totally ignored Rodgers during Rodgers' first year, since he was not fond of the idea he was being replaced, and then they were OK in 2006 after Brett held out for part of training camp in the first will-he-or-won't-he year and Rodgers had to help get him up to speed on the new playbook, and then in 2007 Favre kind of pissed everyone in the organization off by doing the same thing again. And now they don't talk at all. You can totally tell where Rodgers picked things up from Favre, but the reason I really love Aaron Rodgers is that you can also see where he learned things by doing the opposite of Brett Favre's bad tendencies.

― balearific, Monday, 11 January 2010 03:23 (fifteen years ago)
Philip Rivers is probably the best I've seen in terms of "I can make that pass" vs. "Nobody's open, I'm getting rid of it". Always makes the Chargers-Steelers games really weird, since Roethlisberger will hold onto the ball forever, and occasionally can get something good to come out of it, and then Rivers will come on and almost never hold the ball any longer than he has to.
― C-L, Monday, 11 January 2010 03:23 (fifteen years ago)
How strange it is that two teams recently were so rich with quarterback talent: Green Bay (Farve/Rodgers) and San Diego (Brees/Rivers). Teams go years -- even a decade or more -- hoping for one quarterback as good as any of these four!

― k3vin k., Monday, 11 January 2010 03:29 (fifteen years ago)
The whole thing with Matt Leinart and Kurt Warner is way different than Rogers and Favre in that Leinart was the starter and really played his way out of a job in 2007. I don't think Warner is QBblocking him at all, Leinart has proven really not to be better or perhaps ever ready to take over anyway. If Leinart would have been playing great, I don't think Warner would have had a shot at the field and then taking over the job.
I'd think having those skills players would make it easier for Leinart to step in, but I'm not sure he is the real deal anyway.

both sides are true, I mean he's a generally good decision maker and good at scrambling, but he also keeps the ball too long / the oline can't be blamed for 100% of the sacks.
I'm so happy iln loves aaron rodgers, he's been my favorite player since his cal days (his big year there was my freshman year of college.) I spent years nervous that he wouldn't survive the limelight+wearing favre's shoes. this game's ending was disappointing, but sorta in a 'eh doesn't really matter' way, cause a team that gives up 45 points in playoff game isn't gonna get to the super bowl.

I am dead serious. I’ll face Drew Brees any day of the week before I face him again.”
