if you're talking about usc, they were in a really tough position - not as tough as tennessee now obv, but losing your coach at this time of the year is a nightmare, especially with NSD just around the corner. they needed to get a coach and they needed one fast.

kippy brown's gonna be the interim HC for ten, will probably have a good shot at getting the job long-term

also kiffin is apparently a package deal with monty and orgeron, which is probably part of how he was able to sell himself to usc

I was just listening to sports talk radio (Petros & Money are #1 all-time bros), and they had on Scott Wolf from the LA Daily News who'd been following the story since it broke, and he was suggesting that Lane Kiffin lobbied hard for the job. Like all the way back to when it was Riley, Fisher, and Del Rio, Kiffin was cold-calling Mike Garrett expressing interest.

It is a shame UCLA isn't playing Tennessee this year, we could have come together as one to burn Lane Kiffin in effigy.

this owns imo, like i guess usc fans were all O_O when carroll was hired too, but that was more because of his supposedly weak track record and his "soft" persona, it's not like he was some bizarre dickhead. lol this is wonderful.

wait as a usc fan i'm supposed to be mad?! this is awesome... ed orgeron was the best recruiting coordinator usc has ever had - having him back alone is better than anything chris petersen or kyle willingham or any of the other hot college coaches would have brought to the table. plus, kiffin grew up in the usc system, and he was a good OC when he was there the first time. honestly, i was talking to my brother (also huge usc fan) about the ideal situation following carroll's bombshell, and failing jack del rio & kennedy pola, this was it.

plus, everyone besides usc fans already hate usc. at least hiring kiffin is giving all those people what they want.

one thing that no one is talking about is not the UT committs from this year but the guys like bryce brown and janzen jackson who sipped the kiffin kool aid last year and now will either have to get a waiver from the ncaa if they want to transfer or will have to go somewhere and sit out a year

btw i think this is a really good hire for usc, kiffin can flat out coach and the staff is already v good there - they needed someone quick and they needed a name - also he already bombed terribly in the nfl so i don't see this as a petrino like situation where you're hiring a hired gun whose gonna jump ship on you - dunno wherelse he would want to go

This Kiffin story sums up why I hate college sports compared to the pros. Everybody involved seems like a bunch of self-aggrandizing premature-ejaculating cnuts. It's like the division 1A coaches are all shooting a big porn film and they take turns fluffing and then being onscreen, and meantime the players don't get much choice whether they want to do double-anal or not.

tbf, these players are getting full ride scholarships at some fine schools. That's not NFL money, but it's not Wal Mart money either.

the only difference I see is that in the pros the players do this too

my UCLA uni love may be clouded by the fact that while I was growing up the USC/UCLA game was one of the few PAC 8(10) games shown in Michigan. It was always freezing cold in Michigan and watching the powder blue team playing on the green green grass was always a nice warm feeling. I also have a thing for the Chargers powder blue unis for the same reason- it just looked like California.

So UT has settled on Derek Dooley from La Tech? 17-20 record there, so hmmm... this furthers my suspicion that UT is just using stop-gap coaching measures until Peyton Manning retires and they cough up whatever amount of money it will take to get him there.

I would be shocked if Peyton became a college coach and am like 95% sure he will go the way of Dwayne Johnson and Michael Strahan and become a media star.

I love UCLA's basketball unis, and I love the Chargers' powder blues (although I think they're overrated), but the UCLA football unis are just a total waste of a good palette, imo.

I talked to a lot of coaches at the AFCA convention, and many told me they don't think Meyer will be back. That sometime after Signing Day, he will announce his resignation again. We shall see.

that may just be opposing coaches trying to disseminate bad press about meyer because of how ridiculous their recruiting class is this year, but if that was actually true it would be one of the slimiest moves in the history of college fball
