AWESOME

i seriously didnt think there was a chance in hell kiffin would bail on the program after all the money and time that's been put into recruiting; lol lane kiffin is the best fucking troll ever

I am so incredibly happy to have him out of the SEC, and also look forward to hating USC with all of my being!!

i'm hoping the ensuing chain of events is spurrier to UT, bobby johnson to SoCar, gruden to vandy
― doomed... to fart (cankles), Wednesday, 13 January 2010 02:08 (fifteen years ago)
UT is probably crazy enough to hire Mike Leach provided he's not already talking to Al Davis.

i think the state of tennessee is close to declaring a state of emergency. the governor's gonna need to call in the natl guard. i hope kiffin already left town
why the hell did they decide this so soon? seems like a rash decision
― iatee, Wednesday, 13 January 2010 02:38 (fifteen years ago)
who do u mean by they?
― doomed... to fart (cankles), Wednesday, 13 January 2010 02:39 (fifteen years ago)
usc
― iatee, Wednesday, 13 January 2010 02:40 (fifteen years ago)
I mean unless pc informed them he was leaving a few weeks ago, this really seems like a panic hire
if you're talking about usc, they were in a really tough position - not as tough as tennessee now obv, but losing your coach at this time of the year is a nightmare, especially with NSD just around the corner. they needed to get a coach and they needed one fast.
kippy brown's gonna be the interim HC for ten, will probably have a good shot at getting the job long-term
― doomed... to fart (cankles), Wednesday, 13 January 2010 02:41 (fifteen years ago)
also kiffin is apparently a package deal with monty and orgeron, which is probably part of how he was able to sell himself to usc
― doomed... to fart (cankles), Wednesday, 13 January 2010 02:42 (fifteen years ago)
oh yeah forgot about nsd.

I was just listening to sports talk radio (Petros & Money are #1 all-time bros), and they had on Scott Wolf from the LA Daily News who'd been following the story since it broke, and he was suggesting that Lane Kiffin lobbied hard for the job. Like all the way back to when it was Riley, Fisher, and Del Rio, Kiffin was cold-calling Mike Garrett expressing interest.
It is a shame UCLA isn't playing Tennessee this year, we could have come together as one to burn Lane Kiffin in effigy.
― C-L, Wednesday, 13 January 2010 02:57 (fifteen years ago)
this owns imo, like i guess usc fans were all O_O when carroll was hired too, but that was more because of his supposedly weak track record and his "soft" persona, it's not like he was some bizarre dickhead. lol this is wonderful.

There has to be like a 99% chance that if the NCAA puts USC under any kind of recruiting limitations next month, that Lane Kiffin will find a way to break them. This is the best day!
― C-L, Wednesday, 13 January 2010 03:10 (fifteen years ago)
wait as a usc fan i'm supposed to be mad?! this is awesome... ed orgeron was the best recruiting coordinator usc has ever had - having him back alone is better than anything chris petersen or kyle willingham or any of the other hot college coaches would have brought to the table. plus, kiffin grew up in the usc system, and he was a good OC when he was there the first time. honestly, i was talking to my brother (also huge usc fan) about the ideal situation following carroll's bombshell, and failing jack del rio & kennedy pola, this was it.
plus, everyone besides usc fans already hate usc. at least hiring kiffin is giving all those people what they want.

too bad usc isn't good enough to get near the bcs champ game in the next few years - kiffin vs saban would be amazing.
also, i have nothing against ut, but i think it is funny how bad kiffin fucked them over. he has to pay them $800,000, and the fact that that doesn't seem to bother him is even funnier.

Via sbnation:
We have heard from multiple sources, including defensive tackle Marlon Walls that Ed Orgeron was on the phone tonight with some of the early enrollees telling them not to go to class tomorrow and attempting to begin the process of recruiting them to USC.
I am not sure how the early enrollment thing works. Is this legal once they've officially started classes?
― C-L, Wednesday, 13 January 2010 04:26 (fifteen years ago)
if tennessee has any decency they'll let their EEs out of their scholarships

one thing that no one is talking about is not the UT committs from this year but the guys like bryce brown and janzen jackson who sipped the kiffin kool aid last year and now will either have to get a waiver from the ncaa if they want to transfer or will have to go somewhere and sit out a year
btw i think this is a really good hire for usc, kiffin can flat out coach and the staff is already v good there - they needed someone quick and they needed a name - also he already bombed terribly in the nfl so i don't see this as a petrino like situation where you're hiring a hired gun whose gonna jump ship on you - dunno wherelse he would want to go

This Kiffin story sums up why I hate college sports compared to the pros. Everybody involved seems like a bunch of self-aggrandizing premature-ejaculating cnuts. It's like the division 1A coaches are all shooting a big porn film and they take turns fluffing and then being onscreen, and meantime the players don't get much choice whether they want to do double-anal or not.
― wanna be shartin' somethin' (WmC), Wednesday, 13 January 2010 05:27 (fifteen years ago)
tbf, these players are getting full ride scholarships at some fine schools. That's not NFL money, but it's not Wal Mart money either.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 13 January 2010 05:29 (fifteen years ago)
the only difference I see is that in the pros the players do this too
― iatee, Wednesday, 13 January 2010 05:29 (fifteen years ago)
You know who would've been a much better choice? Charlie Weis.

― iatee, Wednesday, 13 January 2010 05:37 (fifteen years ago)
just in terms of 'how many people out there could make this more entertaining'
But also, he won a higher percentage of games in college, was part of a good program in the pros, actually tries to make his program a winner and sticks around to finish a job, is a better offensive mind, is classier, ,,,
Helped Clausen become a likely first-round pick...
― real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Wednesday, 13 January 2010 05:40 (fifteen years ago)
apparently when kiffin talked to his team, he basically just walked in, made a 15 second statement about how its his dream job and he has to leave (and doesnt say he's sorry), all the kids start yelling at him, he turns around and walks out
love this guy
― doomed... to fart (cankles), Wednesday, 13 January 2010 16:30 (fifteen years ago)
i'm listening to a guy with the cbs affiliate in knoxville talking about the scene last night on campus - mattresses burning, the parents of recruits angrily attempting to storm the building (including an entire family that had moved to tennessee from california based on promises kiffin made), kiffin locking himself in his office all night
― doomed... to fart (cankles), Wednesday, 13 January 2010 16:35 (fifteen years ago)

The rumor floating around now is that if USC hires away Norm Chow to be the OC, UCLA will hire Mike Leach to be the new OC.
This story, it gives and gives and gives. IT JUST KEEPS GIVING.

why does everyone think that??? powder blue, really? sorry, anything pro-ucla just disgusts me, and i can't change that.

― iatee, Thursday, 14 January 2010 16:36 (fifteen years ago)
my UCLA uni love may be clouded by the fact that while I was growing up the USC/UCLA game was one of the few PAC 8(10) games shown in Michigan. It was always freezing cold in Michigan and watching the powder blue team playing on the green green grass was always a nice warm feeling. I also have a thing for the Chargers powder blue unis for the same reason- it just looked like California.
― voices from the manstep (brownie), Friday, 15 January 2010 00:26 (fifteen years ago)
So UT has settled on Derek Dooley from La Tech? 17-20 record there, so hmmm... this furthers my suspicion that UT is just using stop-gap coaching measures until Peyton Manning retires and they cough up whatever amount of money it will take to get him there.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 15 January 2010 23:51 (fifteen years ago)
I would be shocked if Peyton became a college coach and am like 95% sure he will go the way of Dwayne Johnson and Michael Strahan and become a media star.
― real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Saturday, 16 January 2010 00:07 (fifteen years ago)

I love UCLA's basketball unis, and I love the Chargers' powder blues (although I think they're overrated), but the UCLA football unis are just a total waste of a good palette, imo.

this was buried halfway through a chat w/ rivals' tom dienhart & it's VERY INTERESTING
Tom Dienhart: I talked to a lot of coaches at the AFCA convention, and many told me they don't think Meyer will be back. That sometime after Signing Day, he will announce his resignation again. We shall see.
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:13 (fifteen years ago)
that may just be opposing coaches trying to disseminate bad press about meyer because of how ridiculous their recruiting class is this year, but if that was actually true it would be one of the slimiest moves in the history of college fball
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:14 (fifteen years ago)
