i don't see how it could be anything besides last night -- all the build up all year of WHEN WILL FAVRE SCREW IT UP manifesting itself in that situation just... redefines "dagger"

NFC vs. Giants: when the rest of the world began to see BF how the people who hate BF see him

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Monday, 25 January 2010 23:45 (fifteen years ago)

I am actually going to have to work this out. Permit to take a horrible journey!

I think part of me tried to block out the memory of vs. Rams 2002 (6 interceptions! 3 Pick-Sixes! Jesus Christ), but at the same time I don't think I expected the Packers had much of a chance to beat the Rams. Maybe 45-17 with 6 INTs was not expected, but it was kind of a house money game.

vs. Falcons 2003 was awful start to finish, because until then I had been dumb enough to believe the "If it is snowing in Lambeau, the Packers will win the big game" cliche, and because it seemed like every time anything kind of good happened, something awful happened. I think when Driver scored but wrecked his shoulder in the process I just got up and left wherever I was watching it, and then listened to the rest driving home.

vs. Eagles 2004 can't really win because the deathblow was not Favre's fault. But man that game SUUUUUUUCKED.

vs. Vikings 2005 is for some reason not particularly memorable for me. I think by this point I had figured out the "once we're down by 14, it's time for Brett Favre's Interception Fiesta" rule. All I really remember from that year is watching Aaron Rodgers not get drafted by the first like 20 teams and then jumping off my couch with excitement when they drafted him. I was always worried I would live to regret that, but nope!

vs. Bengals barely registers, although the box score is bad.

vs. Bears 2006 I just remember because I bought a car that day and the guy who hammered out the financial stuff was from Wisconsin, and so when we checked the score and saw it was 31-0 the dude was like "Men are beating their wives throughout the state of Wisconsin right now" and I am a bad person so I laughed. It sucked, but the second game vs. the Bears that year (on New Year's Eve) was A++++, thanks to Rex Grossman, so they kinda cancel out.

vs. Giants 2008 was awful, because you knew it would happen, but you didn't want to believe it was going to happen, and then it did. I wasn't even surprised, just sad. After it ended I just kinda sat there vacantly for like ten minutes, like I did after they lost to the Broncos in the Super Bowl. This is probably the worst for me, although I really like that Giants team, and the Packers would have gotten destroyed by the Patriots. That loss was good for football in general.

The Jets season I found hilarious, so I can't vote for that. I mean Mangini!

Yesterday was just really bad, and to some degree it's awful to see that happen to another team, even the Vikings. That game was just a weird cathartic thing for me, but it was SUCH a relief at the end.

Favre played like total dogsxxt in that Rams game. He also played pretty awful against the Falcons, if I remember right.

The worst play in that Eagles game wasn't Favre, as it wasn't him that blew it when McNabb hit that bomb on that 4th and 26 play. Maybe in hindsight it was some team psychology Favre moment for the defense.

The Giants one has to be the one, as they were moving the ball with ease and that pass was to no-one except the dude on the other side. I guess it could have been a blown route, but c'mon.

so on NFL live trent dilfer just goes "when i think of brett favre, i think of three words: courageous, brilliant" -- now obv at this point i'm like "oh ffs" -- "and catastrophic"

trent then went on to explain how every football player has dna, and you can't change that dna, and brett favre has "catastrophic dna"

waka shame (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 26 January 2010 08:36 (fifteen years ago)

i think "catastrophic DNA" would make for an A+ ilnfl board description

Imagine if this poll was created today instead of last year!

I always wonder about the 2007 Giants game, but there's no guarantee the Pack win if he doesn't toss that pick, and besides they were freerolling anyway since the Giants missed 2 very makeable FGs in regulation.

The 2009 Vikings/Saints game though has got to be one of the most painful losses of anyone's career. They totally outplayed the Saints but came up unclutch again and again, and Favre's last play was so avoidable, plus you have Chilly sending out 12 men and putting them out of Longwell's range. I'm a GB fan so I was really happy about the result but you almost feel for Vikings fans a bit after witnessing a loss like that. Plus it wound up setting Favre's career into a total freefall after that, he comes back and runs the 2010 Vikings into the ground, gets beaten then destroyed by GB, has like one good game total, and ends his career getting concussed by the Bears in a blowout. He manages to become the punchline of the year for something totally unrelated to the stuff he was already a punchline for. Plus, he gets to watch his former team win an SB around him - the sentiment in Wisconsin was always "he's a traitor, but SB XXXI meant so much to me that I have to forgive him"...wonder how they feel now???
