The Bears who appear on WSCR's football shows are some entertaining dudes. Peanut Tillman, the week before he won the game with that interception, was cracking me up; Muhsin Muhammad goes after reporters who write stuff about his selfish play and says "Come on, man, you KNOW that wasn't true, you KNOW that was bad reporting. I dont' want an apology, I want you to write another article, one that's actually TRUE this time."

That wind was pretty crazy. The first field goal attempt by the Bears was out of hand, the wind blew it completely off the field. I still don't know what to think of those Orange get ups.

Funny things happen at Soldier Field. I wonder what how that matches up with the passing totals from that Packers/Bears MNF game on Holloween night a decade or so ago. That was one of the two or three worst rainstorms I've ever seen an NFL game played in. It was kind of sad that they had the Butkis/Singletary ceremonies in that crap.

There was also that hilarious Sunday night game between the Chiefs and someone else at Arrowhead. The stands were literally flooded with water. That was good stuff.

The Bears also had the famous fog playoff game against the Eagles, where you could only see the field on TV from the sideline cameras.

There was also the wind assisted in Giant punter Sean Landeta swinging and missing on a punt in old Soldier Field.

As much as I would like to see Orton succeed, I have to think that the powers that be in Chicago have to be tempted to let Jeff Blake have a shot at QB to try and generate some more offense.

Blake has always had an absolute cannon of an arm and for a couple of years in Cinci looked like he might develop into a star. He has been plagued by inconsistent play and injuries for most of his career.

Being that the Bears D is Super Bowl ready to go and they have Muhammed at wideout, there has to be some people wondering if they might be able to get a bit more out of a vet at QB if nothing else for the playoff run.

They are winning quite a bit like in 2001, but I think this year's Bear defense is better.

Chicago's schedule does not ease up from here on out even though they play the Pack twice and the Vikings again. Those divisional games are always tight, especially with the Packers. They have Tampa next week and also have Pittsburgh and the Falcons left to play.

the bears in '01 were definitely more "lucky", i'm sure they could have easily been 9-7 that year (they were probably the weakest team to ever go 13-3). this team's defense has actually given up fewer points after 10 games than the '85 D!

That 108 yard return on the missed field goal was straight out of the Bears 2001 playbook. The only thing missing was Mike Brown carrying the ball.

ha, yeah, I totally forgot that they went 13-3 too. that's right -- that was the year Mike Brown returned the two interceptions in overtime in back-to-back games. A buddy of mine was at that Browns game and left before the Bears had tied it up on that hail mary. Definitely one of the *flukiest* 13-3's in history. Although that didn't stop me from getting suckered into laying down some bread on their overmatched asses against the Eagles. what was I thinking.

People are starting to compare this team to the 1985 Bears. Statistically, yeah, maybe, but I'm pretty sure Kyle Orton is one of the worst rated QBs to lead a playoff team ever. If they win anything in the postseason, it will be 70% defense, 20% running and 10% passing.

Not that I'm not enjoying this year, but it feels sorta hollow.

Orton is way better than Doug Flutie was in 86. The year after the the Bears won it all, the defense was just as good but Alonzo Carreker of the Packers cheap shot on McMahon ended his season and then they lost Steve Fuller a couple of weeks later and they had to start a rookie Flutie in the playoffs. 85 was the only year that Jimmy Mac was healthy going into the playoffs and the lack of a quality QB most of the time from 84-89 really killed the Bears having a shot at any more playoff glory. I often wonder what would have happened if Dan Marino had been traded to Chicago, there was a lot of talk about it around the offseason in 87 or 88.

From what I read today, Rex Grossman is going to be in uniform as a backup this weekend against Tampa. I thought he was done for the year. I don't know if Grossman would be that much of an upgrade as he really hasn't played in two years with those injuries.

I think Kyle Orton has done an admirable job for a guy who was never projected to be a starter straight out of college. He is way better than the guys they have had to plug in the spot the past couple of years. I still think Orton could develop into a solid player.

If Grossman is healthy, he is a better QB than Orton, which is something everyone associated with the Bears agrees with. But I think they're going to take the stance of not fixing something that isn't broke, so until Orton gets completely overmatched or the Bears lose because of the passing game, I don't think Grossman will assume a key role. It's also possible that Grossman isn't truly healthy and is just being kept on board as a potential decoy for playoff opponents to have to prepare for in addition to Orton.

My prediction for Sunday: Bears 17, Tampa Bay 10

If I was Lovie, I might pull a college football tactic and use Grossman for a series or two (like first one of the second half), just to get him back to speed. The guy was hurt in the first preseason game after missing the best part of the year before, he needs some game time. Play it off in the press that Orton is still the starter, but if the Bears want to get Grossman back, they need to give him some on-field action.

If Grossman comes in and looks gangbusters, then it might smoothe over moving Orton to the sidelines. If Grossman looks really rusty, it eases the pressure for them to immediately dump Orton.

The Bears need to play this out like this is the only chance they will get at going to a Superbowl. Joe Gibbs was not afraid to change QBs on a winning team and with Doug Williams it paid off with a championship.

seriously tho ... you don't know how bad I was rooting for those Falcs. They just plain didn't get it done. Redskins gave them a X-mas present, and they didn't capitalize. I want Vick in the playoffs as bad as Tags, believe me. But that performance was shit. I feel JB's pain. still alive, tho...

but yeah, this Bears team ... I'm gonna definitely upgrade from first-round-exit to SECOND-round-exit ... no doubt about it .. they've earned the right to get bounced in the 2nd, the defense is definitely a pleasure to watch

the defense is absolutely incredible. 2000 Baltimore Ravens level incredible.

I am a total believer. I saw fear in the eyes of the ATL offense.

the key issue here is obv the GRossman move. I personally like it. but i'm a gambler by nature. Lovie is making all the right moves. ... can't doubt him now.

The Bear defense is pretty amazing. Their front line is so athletic, they don't have to blitz and the rest can sit back and stop the run or the pass. Urlacher is playing like he did a few years ago when he could sit behind Washington and Traylor without having to worry about some guard picking him up. He can just follow the ball and make hits.

The defensive backfield leveled some serious hits last night. #86 for the Falcons got rung up two or three times really hard.

I think Lovie did the right thing, he gave Orton ample time to come out of his funk and it really didn't cost them a loss. The loss to the Steelers being as much the defense having an off game as anything. The Bear offense had so much more spark in the second half, it is hard to argue with the change. I don't know that Grossman is that much more, but Orton seemed to be playing more to not screw up than to make plays and was missing open people left and right. I would imagine the Bears' odds for making the Superbowl just went up.

I don't get Mora getting so out of his head on that one call, was he really expecting them to give him the completion? I have to think that was just frustration with the whole game. That was a stupid call not giving the ball to Vick on that first 4th down play and running the same play that had failed on 3rd.
