all i know is that dallas will lose.

THIS GUY (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Monday, 8 November 2010 05:03 (fourteen years ago)

proof: deion sanders, just now on nfln, on the dallas cowboys: "you can get fancier and fancier houses, but at some point, you gotta buy nicer furniture"

THIS GUY (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Monday, 8 November 2010 05:18 (fourteen years ago)

nice

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 November 2010 05:18 (fourteen years ago)

Nice to know he's not completely useless as a commentator

That is the stench of tyranny (VegemiteGrrrl), Monday, 8 November 2010 05:21 (fourteen years ago)

deion is kind of genius as a commentator tbh, but there's a lot of bluster to cut through

horseshoe, Monday, 8 November 2010 05:22 (fourteen years ago)

That's the problem, my brain shuts off as soon as he starts...the LOUDNESS and the endlessness of it, find it hard to parse into useful analysis

That is the stench of tyranny (VegemiteGrrrl), Monday, 8 November 2010 05:24 (fourteen years ago)

Especially when they have him AND Michael Irvin on at the same time. It's like a black hole of bluster. Though Irvin is completely useless. I do see the glimmer of usefulness in Deion, much as I hate to admit it.

That is the stench of tyranny (VegemiteGrrrl), Monday, 8 November 2010 05:25 (fourteen years ago)

Seattle at Arizona

I hope this is blacked out nationwide.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 8 November 2010 05:28 (fourteen years ago)

haha

Our TVs will hopefully revolt if they don't black it out...some Seattle fan is like, "I don't get it, the guide says its on but the TV keeps switching the channel"

That is the stench of tyranny (VegemiteGrrrl), Monday, 8 November 2010 05:41 (fourteen years ago)

i think you could make a good case that that's the worst nfl match up in like the past thee years -- neither team has even had a string of terrible seasons to make them interesting like clev/buff/oak

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 November 2010 05:43 (fourteen years ago)

also a challenge for this week: can anyone find a starting quarterback match up from the past three years worse than derek anderson vs charlie whitehurst

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 November 2010 05:43 (fourteen years ago)

Actually, they probably cancel each other out. So mathematically, there IS no game

That is the stench of tyranny (VegemiteGrrrl), Monday, 8 November 2010 05:44 (fourteen years ago)

Old Man Hasselbeck will probably be back under center for Seattle, so I'll give them the edge. But still...YUCK.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 8 November 2010 05:47 (fourteen years ago)

is last year's week 16 match up of derek anderson (lol) vs charlie frye worse than derek anderson vs charlie whitehurst? i say no

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 November 2010 05:48 (fourteen years ago)

also, are charlie frye & charlie whitehurst the same person?

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 November 2010 05:48 (fourteen years ago)

WHISENHUNT: Derek Anderson says he's the quarterback, does that make any sense to you?

CARROLL: Some. I've just met Charlie Whitehurst. He's here with me now.

WHISENHUNT: Oh, wonderful, we have to get these two together.

Derek Anderson takes a slice of pizza, sniffs it and sticks it on his cheek

CARROLL: I think that would be extraordinarily dangerous.

omar little, Monday, 8 November 2010 05:50 (fourteen years ago)

Baltimore at Atlanta - RAVENS. This is on Thursday night, right? Not that that makes a difference, but I think I'll take the Ravens winning by a point or two on the road.
Detroit at Buffalo - BILLS? Depends on the Matthew Stafford situation, tbh. I'll finalize this later in the week.
Minnesota at Chicago - VIKINGS. I hate picking the goddamn Vikings.
NY Jets at Cleveland - BROWNS. Sure, why not.
Cincinnati at Indianapolis - COLTS. Because...wtf is wrong with you, Cincinnati!
Tennessee at Miami - MIAMI. Once again, I'm obligated to pick the Dolphins, but I'm more excited to see Randy Randy Randy Moss!
Carolina at Tampa Bay - BUCS. Panthers may as well just put unis on the hot dog and beer vendors. Same scoring potential.
Houston at Jacksonville - JAGS. Not that Jacksonville is great, but they seem to be pulling it together in a way I wasn't expecting based on their first few games.
Kansas City at Denver - CHEFS. Because...lol Broncos.
Dallas at NY Giants - GIANTS. Because...lol Dallas.
Seattle at Arizona - This game isn't happening. This game isn't happening. This game isn't happening.
St. Louis at San Francisco - RAMS. Der.
New England at Pittsburgh - STILLERS. I hope this game is fun to watch.
Philadelphia at Washington - IGGLES. I know this game will be fun to watch.

You're starting the Week 10 thread before week nine is even over?? LOL.

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 8 November 2010 11:20 (fourteen years ago)

Dallas has a nice house and fine furniture. What they need is a good interior designer.

Can't believe the Chargers got a 2nd round pick for Whitehurst (which they subsequently squandered).

Who said that Anne Frank quote?

Irvin & Sanders are great together imo

macaroni rascal (polyphonic), Monday, 8 November 2010 17:29 (fourteen years ago)

Channing Crowder said the Anne Frank thing.

He was talking about the refs being blind and compared them to Stevie Wonder and Anne Frank, then realized he meant Helen Keller.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 8 November 2010 17:34 (fourteen years ago)

Hahahah

That is the stench of tyranny (VegemiteGrrrl), Monday, 8 November 2010 17:38 (fourteen years ago)

I can't let go of the Anne Frank thing.

http://tinyurl.com/koalalala (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 8 November 2010 17:53 (fourteen years ago)

Mike Holmgren or Andy Reid, sure. But "Girl with problems in mid-20th century?"

http://tinyurl.com/koalalala (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 8 November 2010 17:54 (fourteen years ago)

"I went after him, but he was missing like Eleanor Roosevelt."
"Who?"
"The missing girl? Amelia Earhart? I don't know who the fuck Eleanor Roosevelt is. I'm heated."

http://tinyurl.com/koalalala (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 8 November 2010 17:56 (fourteen years ago)

"Those refs out there treating me like Kitty Dukakis, all watching me get murdered and saying shit."

http://tinyurl.com/koalalala (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 8 November 2010 17:58 (fourteen years ago)

I know, save it for the Custos thread, but I can't help it.

http://tinyurl.com/koalalala (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 8 November 2010 17:59 (fourteen years ago)

i saw that call of duty: black ops ad people were talking about. definitely a little o_O to say the least.

omar little, Monday, 8 November 2010 18:02 (fourteen years ago)

So is Kevin Smith writing Channing Crowder's material now? There's a similar exchange in Clerks II, lol:

Dante Hicks: Have you become so embittered that you now feel the need to attack the handicapped?
Randal Graves: What handicap? They guy's just in a wheelchair, it's not like he's Anne Frank or something.
Dante Hicks: Anne Frank?
Randal Graves: Yeah, Anne Frank. The chick that was all duhhh, till the miracle worker showed up and knocked some smarts into her.
Dante Hicks: You're talking about Helen Keller.
Randal Graves: No I'm not, I'm talking about Anne Frank. She was deaf, dumb and blind.
Dante Hicks: No she wasn't. Helen Keller was deaf, dumb and blind.
Randal Graves: Are you sure?
Dante Hicks: Yup.
Randal Graves: Then who the fuck's Anne Frank?

i think it might be a good rule of thumb to not bother drafting notre dame qbs.

omar little, Monday, 8 November 2010 19:15 (fourteen years ago)

it says something when the most successful notre dame QB post-montana is rick mirer.

omar little, Monday, 8 November 2010 19:45 (fourteen years ago)

i remember when mirer was coming out of ND and people were so fascinated by him, i even heard announcers gushing about how he bore a slight resemblance to montana so hey, he's gotta be a star! the 1-2 punch in the draft of bledsoe/mirer wasn't quite as hilarious as manning/leaf but it was good enough.

i'm thinking six (pats, colts, chargers, pack, saints, falcons) maybe 7 depending on how you feel about eli.

omar little, Tuesday, 16 November 2010 05:32 (fourteen years ago)

but who knows? vick looks unstoppable.

omar little, Tuesday, 16 November 2010 05:33 (fourteen years ago)

i guess i forgot about drew brees. everyone knows how i feel about eli and the giants were not one of those teams (i feel strongly about eli in case you didn't know)

vick and brady were two of the best qb games ive seen in a while, kudos nfl weekend

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 16 November 2010 05:37 (fourteen years ago)

it's pretty awesome i gotta say, i mean i think most nfl fans who loved watching vick like myself thought he was just gonna be a change of pace qb for some nfl team and maybe his peak years of excitement were forever gone. so it's just like this incredible bonus that he's come back like the best qb on the planet and totally just owning the game in a completely controlled manner. / mnf crew

no i totally agree with this, i think everyone who has been around here a while has known i was a vick skeptic long before the dog situation but i guess spending some time in prison getting fat while reading marley and me and learning some lessons really helped him because damn dudes. point one out of negative a billion for the people who think prison is a rehabilatory service?

That is the stench of tyranny (VegemiteGrrrl), Tuesday, 16 November 2010 05:50 (fourteen years ago)

i realize upthread i said "andy reid" and "genius" in the same sentence but i totally meant it w/r/t this situation. i think he's a vv good coach and creates some pretty excellent offensive schemes and vick is just thriving in them. and i feel good for vick b/c i think while he did this vile thing he also seems to have changed into a completely different person and i hope that's the case.

omar little, Tuesday, 16 November 2010 06:34 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i said this a few weeks back or w/e but i really can't hate vick -- he did something really stupid & disgusting but he did his time & as far as anyone can tell has turned into a fine member of society -- also he's an incredibly fun player to watch

thomas smangalter (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 16 November 2010 06:37 (fourteen years ago)

andy reid is a really, really good coach & personnel guy -- he & their GM should be getting huge praise for being able to create pretty much a completely new nucleus on the fly while also somehow improving the team? like, that's incredibly hard to do & the weapons on that offense are just crazy -- of course the vick thing as well

thomas smangalter (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 16 November 2010 06:39 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, at first I wasn't sure that a healthy McCoy was a suitable replacement for a healthy Westbrook, but the rushing game has thrived, especially since they brought in Jerome Harrison. And we already knew about Jackson and Maclin. And those are just the offensive skill players. That defense is looking pretty bolted down too.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 16 November 2010 06:47 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, not to mention that they had one of the best d coordinators in the nfl get sick & die pretty quickly

thomas smangalter (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 16 November 2010 06:51 (fourteen years ago)

i guess i should say "pretty suddenly"

thomas smangalter (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 16 November 2010 06:51 (fourteen years ago)

Reid should get a lot of credit for developing guys like Vick and McNabb and being the guy who helps them use their *desire* to be great in practical ways. I think him and Holmgren have a similar teacherly, fatherly quality that really goes a long way with the right guys.

That is the stench of tyranny (VegemiteGrrrl), Tuesday, 16 November 2010 06:53 (fourteen years ago)

And I'd like to think having a mentor like Dungy helped Vick immeasurably. I want that book to get written.

That is the stench of tyranny (VegemiteGrrrl), Tuesday, 16 November 2010 06:55 (fourteen years ago)

I'd like to think a preening jesus freak like Dungy didn't help Vick at all.

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 16 November 2010 07:02 (fourteen years ago)

Seriously?

That is the stench of tyranny (VegemiteGrrrl), Tuesday, 16 November 2010 07:08 (fourteen years ago)

OTM - as a Falcons fan its agonizing to see what he looks like with great coaching like this, but OTOH it's pretty vindicating considering how long I was a Vick apologist.

gotta say i love that two days after signing that megadeal the headline on an espn sidebar news story is "Source: McNabb due just $3.75M if released"

omar little, Tuesday, 16 November 2010 15:56 (fourteen years ago)

yeah as a falcons fan who hoped vick would one day rule the earth, i'm still unconvinced. he always abused vulnerable defenses (although he rarely got as abusive as last night) but struggled against the good defensive teams like the bucs. i mean, so far this has been a typical vick season -- some great games, an injury that knocks him out for a few and the yet to happen rough game against complex, speedy defense.

fortunately for him there's no great D in the nfc. i would love to see a nfc championship game of falcons-philly in the georgia dome.

C'mon, typical Vick season? It's only 6 games, but there's no other stretch in his career where he's played anywhere near this well. That 62.7% completion percentage is godly for him. And zero picks, and only 2 fumbles? I wish we got more of this 'typical Vick' during the Mora years!

Also, I literally can't think of a single matchup I'd hate more than that. Falcons vs. The 53 Hitlers would go down easier for me. The Eagles always outcoach us and badly... I can handle the Falcons getting demolished by anyone else, but one annual asskicking from Philly is the most I can take.

KyleP (Princess TamTam), Tuesday, 16 November 2010 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

i dunno i think we could handle them at home. and yeah i agree, vick never played quite this well but i need to see him against an actual good defense and not that shit the redskins put out there last night or any of the other teams he's played so far.

Moreno, Tuesday, 16 November 2010 16:30 (fourteen years ago)
