It would have been a bunch tougher if the Titans would have just kept the Oilers going ala Jazz and said fxxk it, were not changing the name.

Sing a sad song for the "Houston Oilers" RIP, even if the stats live on.

they tried! Nashville's taxpayers were kicking in a huge chunk for the new arena and the general vibe around town was pretty ugly during the transition; they played the first year in memphis as the oilers while the arena had all kinds of issues being funded. rumors went around that this was only a temporary move, that they were gonna stay in memphis, who gives a fuck about the titans when we had UT (this was close to peyty era, remember), "Titans" is too nondescript and we wanted something like the "Country Twangers" to brand them, Nashville isn't a protown anyway.... Then the Titans went to the Superbowl the first year that they were in Nashvegas and that pretty much settled that

I remember they were supposed to play two years in Memphis, but attendance was Expos/Marlins levels of bad, so they accelerated the move to Nville.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 23 November 2010 00:15 (fourteen years ago)

L. Tomboto is the only man in these parts with a motive for such iirc
