first win watch:

miami 3/10 - giants look poor but they can function to some degree as a football team so does not look promising for the fins
indy 5/10 - divisional game so theoretically anything can happen. matt hass honeymoon might be over and they used to have a running back
st. louis 0/10 - new orleans could punt on 1st down every possession thru 3 quarters and they would still score the 10 points required to win in the 4th

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 13:57 (thirteen years ago)

Yep, Indy is the favorite to get their first win out of that group. They're only 9.5 point dogs.

I feel like Detroit at Denver is the one to watch. I know he's all anyone talks about but I really want to see Tim "The Toolman" Tebow succeed just to watch people's brains explode. If Detroit can't win their season is going to be in total freefall as their second half schedule is brutal.

frogbs, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 14:13 (thirteen years ago)

shaun hill and drew stanton are both as good QBs as tebow, and if either had to play they have better weapons, so i can't see any scenario in which detroit doesn't win that game. and their d line will be revved up, so there is a chance tebow ends the day with his pal jesus in heaven.

Meanwhile Brady’s heard all the talk about tight end Rob Gronkowski and his encounter with BiBi Jones over the weekend, and knowing his tight end as well as he does, he’s not exactly surprised.

“No, but I’ve heard,” said Brady when asked about the topic. ”He never ceases to amaze me. I would have guessed there would be pictures of him somehow with his shirt off, posing or something like that. I’m just glad, I’m no longer the one that people are making fun of on my team on a daily basis.

Brady said that a visit with Belichick is probably in the 2nd year player’s future, although considering other things Gronk has done, apparently it’s not exactly the first time he’ll be making one.

“He’s used to that walk into coach’s office now,” said Brady. “He probably knows it’s coming.”

Brady also was asked about the jersey that was with Gronkowski that he apparently keeps for situations like the one that happened over the weekend, and apparently it’s something he was already aware of.

“The Gronkowski travel bag?” quipped Brady. ”The jersey, and the football to throw around at the pool at the Hard Rock. He has more fun than anybody. He doesn’t miss a fun day. Gronk is single, he’s young and he’s making his own decisions. It’s hard for coach … he talks to us every time we head out for an extended vacation about our decision-making. I’m sure he’ll have something to say to Rob. The players will probably be asking more details — the jersey that the girl was wearing or something like that.”

this guy is kind of dumb:

The NFL has made Chris Cooley a millionaire many times over. During the NFL lockout, when he was banned from working with the Washington Redskins' training staff, he could've hired the best physical therapists around to help him with the left knee that was feeling stiff from surgery in January.

Instead, he figured he would handle it himself. He didn't think the knee was that bad.

It was a decision that essentially cost him a season, and maybe his career. The knee didn't recover. He missed almost all of training camp and muddled through five games, unable to run more than 10 yards without pain. He had the knee drained 15 times.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7156235/washington-redskins-chris-cooley-ir-says-casualty-nfl-lockout

call all destroyer, Thursday, 27 October 2011 21:50 (thirteen years ago)

oh no, cooooooley. i knew he landed on IR again but not the whole story about it, although i was wondering a few weeks ago why he wasn't a little more concerned about losing his job because fred davis is having a v good season. redskins future does not look bright - hightower is done for the season too, and santana moss out for over a month, and then there's that QB issue..

i wouldn't be surprised if the redskins organization was less competent than most at contacting players during the offseason and before the lockout was in place to, you know, make sure they knew how to handle stuff like this?

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Friday, 28 October 2011 00:38 (thirteen years ago)

"In 2010 only 17 percent of kickoffs went for touchbacks. Through the first six weeks of 2011 more than 50 percent (50.1%) of kickoffs have been downed or gone through the back of the end zone. In fact the total number of touchbacks in 2010 (416) was already eclipsed by the 2011 total after just six weeks (452)."

:(

Last week 9-4, Season 67-36

Arizona at Baltimore- The Cards have pretty much gone back to their norm of being just flat terrible. Bmore is a pretender to the crown. Defense is still good but man do they make dumb penalties at bad times. Offense is just not that good. Ravens.
Minnesota at Carolina- This is probably a pretty decent game to watch. It's pretty much pickem'. I guess Carolina at home.
Jacksonville at Houston- Jack Del Rio does know how to put together a defense, but his clubs are always really awkward on offense. You got to go Texans, by pedigree, but it's hard to believe in them as they have always waffled in these situation. Gimme Houston, but I wouldn't be surprised if Jville knocks them out in a fugly game to watch.
Miami at NY Giants- Giants better win considering their schedule is a witch for the next couple months, but they do sometime play down to their competition.
New Orleans at St. Louis- Got to go Saints, even though they have been upset in a couple of games against total dogs in the past 2-3 years.
Indianapolis at Tennessee- Wow this is a matchup between clubs that got their ass kicked hard last week. Indy got whooped more, but they were playing the Saints. I don't know...it's a stretch, but give me the Colts this time. Wow have both of these clubs fell, few years back this was a marquee matchup.
Detroit at Denver- I'm feeling a Lion swoon, especially if Stafford misses games. I can't buy the Broncos either though. Gimme the Lions but I don't feel good about it. I think the hoopla was a bit premature.
Washington at Buffalo- Both of these clubs definitely don't have the shine from week 2 or 3 now. Beck at least statistically didn't seem to play poor last week, though I didn't see the game. I guess take the Bills at home, but this game feels like a pickem contest. It might be a good game to watch.
Cincinnati at Seattle- Seattle is a tough place to play. Bengals D has been solid and Dalton is getting the job done. I'm going Bengals more on hope they do win more than I feel like they will win. Seahawks are not that good or at least they have some serious flaws on offense, but I'd believe they could win this one especially if the Bengals don't protect the ball.
Cleveland at San Francisco- 49ers have been beating the tar out of people, hard not to take them to win. Browns are a quiet 3-3, but when you have wins against the Colts, Dolphins and Seahawks (especially since that last one was fugly) - they don't inspire confidence.
New England at Pittsburgh- Can I just hope for a mean destructive game where both sides are completely decimated by injuries in the end? Other than the Packers, who seem to be channeling 80s SF right now for being totally efficient, the top of the NFL seems to have clubs that while obviously the best in the league, they got serious flaws. NE's defense gives up tons of yards. Pittsburgh is no longer getting the turnovers and their o-line is swiss cheese. This is a pickem, I have no idea who really to go with as either way you are dealing with the forces of evil. I guess Pats.
Dallas at Philadelphia- Another total pickem game with teams with talent and big flaws. I think in total Dallas is better overall, but they play so stupid at points. Eagles have big flaws. Whatever happened to DeSean Jackson? That guy has vanished. I want to go Cowboys, but I figure it's just too hard to go against the Eagles at home. ESPN won't shutup about the game either way.
San Diego at Kansas City- Speaking of clubs that have quietly gone 3-3, how about KC coming back from their first two weeks. I'd imagine Haley has had to go out and find a new dictionary of curses and swearwords from around the world to make that happen. SD last week got Norved. Rivers and that offense is just not cooking. I'm feeling Chiefs for no good reason other than it would make the division race interesting.
