new orleans @ san franciscodenver @ new englandhouston @ baltimorenew york (variety: giants) @ green bay
― Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 11:07 (thirteen years ago)
all very intriguing match ups, great slate of games
with the way it ended, it is easy to forget that detroit did a fair job of containing the saints' offense in the first half. and the 49ers d is plenty better than detroit's. a lot of this hinges on how payton plans for the game. you figure the best thing to do is really bolt out of the gate and try to get the 2 score margin that you know SF prob can't get back. but what if you start guns blazing and don't get anywhere, what's plan b? payton is probably too good a coach and the saints too good an offense not to win here, but it could get interesting.
if new england don't beat denver it will mean something special happened, and the real winners will be pittsburgh because no one will remember that game. we are talking tebow 6 TDs or brady 6 ints. most likely NE will really put them to the sword, but if any team is going to make a game go wacky it's the 2011-12 denver bronchioles
i think houston can win at baltimore. if houston run it at the ravens and they don't handle it, start giving up consistent yards on the ground and opening up low-risk plays for yates off playaction, then houston could dominate the game. on the other hand, even tho he has had some poor games in the playoffs, flacco is better than he gets credit for, good enough to win this game if baltimore need to pass the ball if he's on form. bad enough the throw the game away if he's not, of course. i think both defenses show up strong but rice and flacco do just enough to win a close game.
the giants. smdh. either they just match up very well vs some teams and very badly vs others or they really are just as insanely inconsistent as the assholes on tv like to prattle about. this is a similar spot to super bowl 42 and they will have to play better than that game and likely be just as lucky. it's a tall order but you can't rule it out. certainly eli is a better qb than he was then, and that has to help, because they won't hold GB to 14. i have a hunch tho, that GB do a professional hit job on them this time.
upsets in order of likelihood imo:texansgiantsninersbroncos

You're damn right I'm calling one-and-dones for Brady and Rodgers.
― Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 11:55 (thirteen years ago)
Home team wins each of these games. I give Denver a chance against NE. Niners over Saints.

disagree with the first part, but I agree with the second. overall I think the Texans are better than most people realize, but Ravens have the same amount of talent without the injuries.
i can see the Broncos upset too, but obviously Denver's going to need a few breaks. if Tebow is remotely accurate, the Pats could give up a lot of points, as their secondary sucks and they likely will send lots of players to the line as they're probably running 70-75% of the time. but I dont see the Pats being held to under 30.
― frogbs, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 14:34 (thirteen years ago)
but yeah Niners/Saints is definitely the most intriguing of these games. the Niners are such a weird team in this era.

this is wrong, the pats safeties will play insanely deep, like they do every week

What's the over under in the Ravens/Texans game, 10?
― You're a notch, I'm a legend (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 11 January 2012 16:16 (thirteen years ago)
Jesus, 45.5, I'm going under.
― You're a notch, I'm a legend (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 11 January 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)
oh lol i saw a robust 35.5 somewhere and still would go under!
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)
wow, 45.5. most TDs i can imagine in this game is 5 and that seems generous. there is a chance this game is over in 2 hours.
― Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 16:20 (thirteen years ago)
yea i dont think thats accurate, its closer to what cad wrote iirc
― johnny crunch, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 16:22 (thirteen years ago)
here's what I got:
109 New Orleans Saints –3.5 (47.5)110 San Francisco 49ers +3.5 111 Denver Broncos +13.5 (51)112 New England Patriots –13.5 113 Houston Texans +9 (35.5)114 Baltimore Ravens –9 115 New York Giants +9 (52.5)116 Green Bay Packers –9
obviously 45.5 is a mistake for Texans/Ravens. I do like Texans +9 here parlayed with the under.
― frogbs, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 16:27 (thirteen years ago)
texans +9 is money in the bank, surely

Um, im an idiot. I googled the Over/Under and it came up with a game from the 2010 season. That's what i was referencing above. 35.5 is much more realistic.
― You're a notch, I'm a legend (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 11 January 2012 19:07 (thirteen years ago)
I definitely think SF with 3.5 points is a good pick.
