J0rdan S., Sunday, 29 January 2012 23:55 (thirteen years ago)

they certainly beat a v good team ;_;

tebow gotti (k3vin k.), Sunday, 29 January 2012 23:56 (thirteen years ago)

i'd say my top 5 would be

04-05 pats
03-04 pats
08-09 steelers
09-10 saints
07-08 giants

J0rdan S., Sunday, 29 January 2012 23:57 (thirteen years ago)

Feel like 04I Patsies

Neanderthal, Sunday, 29 January 2012 23:58 (thirteen years ago)

my 1st instinct was also that 04 pats team

johnny crunch, Monday, 30 January 2012 00:02 (thirteen years ago)

same here

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Monday, 30 January 2012 03:07 (thirteen years ago)

i'd forgotten that the carolina panthers went to a super bowl

mookieproof, Monday, 30 January 2012 03:08 (thirteen years ago)

both of those pats teams were really fucking good; would have to look back a bit to pick one

call all destroyer, Monday, 30 January 2012 03:13 (thirteen years ago)

that panthers team was pretty good too -- i was pretty bummed that they didn't win it that year

J0rdan S., Monday, 30 January 2012 03:14 (thirteen years ago)

04-05 Pats
05-06 Steelers
06-07 Colts

The core of these three clubs pretty much dominated the decade. Colts are a bit like the 70s Raiders who were kind of behind the Steelers and Dolphins in the same conference in the way the Colts often couldn't get through the Pats or Steelers.

Interesting to note, none of those clubs really won it all with argubly their best club in the decade.

01-02 Steelers
07-08 Pats
05-06 Colts

earlnash, Monday, 30 January 2012 06:13 (thirteen years ago)

03-04 Pats
04-05 Pats
08-09 Steelers

these are the only 3 years when i think the best overall team that year won the championship. going on gut recollection, the competition level was not all that great in 03-04 and 08-09. in 04-05 there were a few good teams - that was the year the steelers went 15-1 and then got thumped at heinz in the conference game.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 30 January 2012 14:30 (thirteen years ago)

voted 04/05 pats cause i wanted to vote for the pats and you guys say thats the best one because i dont remember

lag∞n, Monday, 30 January 2012 14:32 (thirteen years ago)

lol

finishing off my thought process wrt the actual question, 04-05 Pats is also my answer, i guess. but i remember thinking the 05-06 colts were a level above anyone in the few years previous. they made belichick tear up his old game plan. steelers reaching the superbowl that year made no sense.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 30 January 2012 14:36 (thirteen years ago)

voted 04-05 Pats (cringing) - wanted to vote Saints but then I remember how they got thoroughly thumped by the Vikings (yet still won)

frogs you are the dumbest asshole (frogbs), Monday, 30 January 2012 14:40 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i recall @ the time thinking i really didnt think that saints team was "good" cuz, right the vikes should have won that nfc championship game, indy somewhat dominated the sb but idk they strike me as a team that really 'finds a way to win' or w/e cliche & are actually v v good

johnny crunch, Monday, 30 January 2012 14:44 (thirteen years ago)

they somewhat dominated the sb bcuz they were playing rex grossman

J0rdan S., Monday, 30 January 2012 14:45 (thirteen years ago)

IMO that was one where coaching made all the difference. I thought Indy was the better team going in but the Saints were pretty damn impressive

frogs you are the dumbest asshole (frogbs), Monday, 30 January 2012 14:46 (thirteen years ago)

xp i meant indy dominated teh game vs new orleans -- saints basically had a few hueg moments on both sides of halftime & played good enough the rest of the game; & the late int

johnny crunch, Monday, 30 January 2012 14:48 (thirteen years ago)

voting 06-07 colts b/c prince was so good in the super bowl that year

max, Monday, 30 January 2012 14:48 (thirteen years ago)

that's an important poll right there

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 30 January 2012 14:56 (thirteen years ago)

that prince halftime show was the most overrated thing that ever happened, he played a foo fighters song ffs people FOO FIGHTERS

lag∞n, Monday, 30 January 2012 14:58 (thirteen years ago)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Super_Bowl_halftime_shows

wow the 00s were really really horrible. i am delighted that i didn't see 2000. also, i listened to 2001 on ~internet radio~ and i think they cut away during the halftime show

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 30 January 2012 15:00 (thirteen years ago)

uh yeah it's not so much that Prince was great it was more that he wasn't terrible and every other show was

frogs you are the dumbest asshole (frogbs), Monday, 30 January 2012 15:01 (thirteen years ago)

1 eyed man in the kingdom of the blind and leprotic

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 30 January 2012 15:02 (thirteen years ago)

thats not true because the michael jackson halftime was the best

lag∞n, Monday, 30 January 2012 15:02 (thirteen years ago)

the theme of madonnas is gonna be her awful w.e. movie?

johnny crunch, Monday, 30 January 2012 15:03 (thirteen years ago)

prince show was actually legit great, certainly as a spectacle. only competition is the boss. and really i am not much of a fan of either.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 30 January 2012 15:03 (thirteen years ago)

well the boss slid into a camera with his crotch, so as much as i love prince...

J0rdan S., Monday, 30 January 2012 15:04 (thirteen years ago)

also i recall a halftime show from my youth in which a man flew around w/jet pack that i was v impressed by

lag∞n, Monday, 30 January 2012 15:04 (thirteen years ago)

it kind of pisses me off that the Packers SB win will always be associated with "Tonight's Gonna be a Good Night"

frogs you are the dumbest asshole (frogbs), Monday, 30 January 2012 15:13 (thirteen years ago)

haha

lag∞n, Monday, 30 January 2012 15:16 (thirteen years ago)

max, Monday, 30 January 2012 15:36 (thirteen years ago)

also dogg it RAINED during purple... RAIN

max, Monday, 30 January 2012 15:36 (thirteen years ago)

also, if my recollection is accurate, prince revealed his gigantic, barbed phallus, detached it, and then played it like a guitar. which you do not see every day.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 30 January 2012 15:38 (thirteen years ago)

my god, I vividly remember that terrible Diana Ross show

they took her away in a helicopter while she shouted "there's my ride, y'all!"

three years later, she felt up Lil Kim on the VMAs

FIN

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Monday, 30 January 2012 15:40 (thirteen years ago)

people dissing the Prince halftime show itt are so far offtm they may never see tm again

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 02:35 (thirteen years ago)

That Ravens team is interesting cuz it was truly a product of its era, and probably wouldn't get past the divisional round in today's NFL. I mean for sure, they'd still be a solid defense, and one of the league's best (if not the best), but I have to think they were aided a bit by the anemic offense of that year. I have to think this pass happy league would have been able to score enough points on them to win, even if they didn't light up the scoreboard (after all, that Ravens team's strongest area was the run).

(As an illustration, 12 teams averaged under 20 ppg that year, and 14 teams averaged under 300 ypg -- compare that to only 7 teams under 20 ppg this year and only 4 under 300 ypg). Also the league average for team yardage that year was about 400 yards less that year than it was this year).

That Giants team was such a pile of shit. Possibly the worst 13-3 team in history.

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 02:44 (thirteen years ago)

that should have said Raven team's strongest area of defense was the run.

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 02:44 (thirteen years ago)

(and obv I mean the Giants that lost to the Ravens)

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 02:48 (thirteen years ago)
