Washington

Eric H., Wednesday, 7 March 2012 17:57 (thirteen years ago)

yeah

iatee, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 17:58 (thirteen years ago)

I honestly don't think he would want to play in Eli's division.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 17:58 (thirteen years ago)

I'm assuming he's going to try to stay AFC so they can continue to dream of a Manning/Manning Superbowl

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:00 (thirteen years ago)

I'm driven by both desire and logic to say he goes to the Dolphins (along with Reggie Wayne), as it seems like the best fit for all parties.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:04 (thirteen years ago)

I hope he goes to Denver or the Jets just for the roffles.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:06 (thirteen years ago)

i voted washington too

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:50 (thirteen years ago)

my only reservation there is that maybe snyder feels burned after the mcnabb debacle and decides to put all his eggs in the RG3 basket instead

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:51 (thirteen years ago)

Fins and Skins are in the best financial position to grab him, but I've heard that Houston is where he most wants to go. I'm voting Other but I have no idea where that would be

these pretzels are makeing me horney (Hungry4Ass), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:03 (thirteen years ago)

houston would be... dope? what's schaub's situation like?

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:04 (thirteen years ago)

iirc schaub has a year left on his deal + an option? that could be totally wrong

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:05 (thirteen years ago)

sf

lag∞n, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:11 (thirteen years ago)

I'd love to see either SF or Houston, but I don't think either is a realistic landing spot during this offseason.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:17 (thirteen years ago)

Houston or Tennessee, though the 49ers not giving it a shot would be a horrendous mistake. This would put them over the top.

You're a notch, I'm a legend (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:28 (thirteen years ago)

Same thing with Houston, I guess. They'd have to be SB favorites.

You're a notch, I'm a legend (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:29 (thirteen years ago)

would peyton going to the 49ers or houston make people hate him like lebron?

iatee, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)

He was released by his own team. He didn't just "take his talents" elsewhere.

pplains, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:32 (thirteen years ago)

yeah and he prob won't have a tv special either, but if he goes to the 49ers and runs the table there's something 'too easy' about it right? I mean this is assuming he can even throw a football etc.

iatee, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:35 (thirteen years ago)

From profootballtalk:

Although there appears to be nothing imminent between the 49ers and soon-to-be free agent quarterback Alex Smith, the 49ers’ front office says that bringing back Smith is the focus of the franchise — and that signing Peyton Manning hasn’t even been discussed.

“We haven’t had Peyton in here nor are we even talking about those things internally right now,” 49ers G.M. Trent Baalke said on KNBR, via the Sacramento Bee. “Is he going to play? I don’t know. That’s for the doctors to make the decision on and for him himself.”

This clearly means the 49ers are considering making a move, yes?

mookieproof, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:40 (thirteen years ago)

nah because football's even more of a team sport, the individual's responsibility is smaller vs. in basketball even for a qb, plus its not like san francisco is like historically loaded - they're a nice team with some good defensive talent but peyton's colts have fielded more effective defenses than they did last year, theyre not the 85 bears

these pretzels are makeing me horney (Hungry4Ass), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:41 (thirteen years ago)

I think the real issue in SF (as it's been for years) is salary cap. They were in the red for several seasons, and can just now breathe a little.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:43 (thirteen years ago)

you'd so but comparing the colts pre and post peyton...
xp

iatee, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:44 (thirteen years ago)

you'd think so*

iatee, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:44 (thirteen years ago)

well the colts were built to run with peyton behind the wheel, it's a specially built team in a way that you dont usually see in the nfl. im not saying hes a not an important piece who improves any team he's on, just that the dynamics of the sport are such that a lebron comparison would be surfacey/glib/unearned

these pretzels are makeing me horney (Hungry4Ass), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:49 (thirteen years ago)

which wont stop hack sportswriters from making it but who cares

these pretzels are makeing me horney (Hungry4Ass), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 19:50 (thirteen years ago)

but peyton's colts have fielded more effective defenses than they did last year

I'll take last year's 49ers defense over any of the Colts squads, but yeah, they aren't the 85 Bears.

I'll take last year's 49ers defense over any of the Colts squads, but yeah, they aren't the 85 Bears.

^they were pretty damn good. you dont need to be the 85 Bears to win it all. you just need to be able to cover for a horrendous qb, which is what the Niners were able to do, and it almost got them to the promised land.

Waxahachie Swap (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 21:36 (thirteen years ago)

Once again, that puts Peyty in the NFC East and I don't think that's gonna happen.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 21:51 (thirteen years ago)

oh, i don't think it will happen, i just think it would be great

mookieproof, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 22:10 (thirteen years ago)

the 05 and 07 colts had higher defensive DVOAs than the 11 niners. of course they're very different defenses built for different purposes - the niners have a monster defensive front (probably the best in the league?) and a great run D, but when those colts defenses were playing with a lead they could pretty much tear anyone open

these pretzels are makeing me horney (Hungry4Ass), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 22:35 (thirteen years ago)

Does DVOA take into account the offense? The fact that the Colts offense was so dynamic meant that they were playing with a huge lead a lot, when that isn't the case for teams that have much stronger defenses than their offenses.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 22:38 (thirteen years ago)

no, and yeah sure - that defense was built to complement a high powered offense. no argument there.

peyton to the brownies

mookieproof, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 23:06 (thirteen years ago)

Redskins- Snyder likes to pay the old vets, but I can't see Shanahan giving the keys over to Peyton. Also from Peyton's point of view, he might recall that Shanahan pretty much threw McNabb under the bus just a year ago then got at the wheel and backed up.

Seahawks- I think this seems possible in just the fact the owner has a gazillion dollars. Even with the Niners, I'd say the NFC west is generally not a strong division. Pete Carroll always seems like a flake to me, but he might just be Ok with turning over the keys to a guy like Manning.

Jets- I can't see Manning wanting to go anywhere near that grease fire.

Dolphins- It seems to make sense for the history and locale, but the current ownership and management is not the same guys that ran the club under Robbie and they seem kind of dense. Miami has some talent, so it seems they might be able to make the next step if Manning is ready to go. NFL would love to have those 2 games each with the Pats and Jets, that is for sure. I'd think with their team's make up and where they are at now, it probably would make sense to go after Matt Flynn as they are a somewhat young club.

Chiefs- Is this even being discussed? KC might not have been as bad as it got last year, but they don't seem to be ready for primetime and I think that Manning wants to play to win now.

(Texans)- This is a new one. I see Manning would like it as they are a club built to win it all with a killer RB and WR (if healthy), a solid defense and a head coach that has been credited as being pretty progressive offensive mind. Peyty would also get a shot to completely decimate the Colts a couple of times a year for a few season extracting revenge in blood. Schaub has been good when healthy, bad thing is that he can't stay healthy. Houston has Mario Williams out there to deal with as a free agent. So they go after Peyty even if they cut Schaub they probably can't bring back Williams. I say possible, but I don't know much about the Texans' situation to say for sure.

(Niners)- I think it would take some brass balls and a cold disposition to toss out Smith after him and the clubs huge turnaround including one of the more epic playoff wins in franchise history (upsetting the Saints), even with the bleh game and loss in the NFC championship. You know Harbaugh got tossed to the curb when the Colts drafted Peyton. Who knows how that fits into the whole logic of things. It would be a weird turn of events for Ex-Colt Qb/Stanford Head Coach Harbaugh to coach Ex-Colt Manning who was replaced by ex-Stanford Qb Andrew Luck. It's a small world after all.

earlnash, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 23:37 (thirteen years ago)

I kind of feel for Andrew Luck going into Indy. I hope the Colts picked their GM and head coach well along with having some good offensive coaches - being the #1 in the draft AND both replacing a legendary player at QB starting as a rookie could be a recipe for disaster even if the guy has huge talent.

The Colts o-line has gotten old too, the guys that were good are all gone (or maybe going with Saturday).

earlnash, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 23:42 (thirteen years ago)

Cardinals should be in the mix

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 8 March 2012 00:20 (thirteen years ago)

read today that the Fins have had 18 starting QBs in the 13 years sine Marino retired.

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 8 March 2012 00:21 (thirteen years ago)

18 that have started at least one game or 18 dubbed 'no. 1 starting qb'?

mookieproof, Thursday, 8 March 2012 00:24 (thirteen years ago)

hmmm I assume just 18 different people who have started

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 8 March 2012 00:31 (thirteen years ago)

obviously there have been other dudes who started a few games due to injuries, but i *think* there have been just 11 'starting qbs' for the steelers in my lifetime. there's been a fair bit of half-assedness:

terry bradshaw
cliff stoudt
david woodley
mark malone
bubby brister
neil o'donnell
kordell stewart
mike tomczak

Johnny Fever, Monday, 19 March 2012 17:11 (thirteen years ago)

there are plenty of people who have done worse than endorse a terrible Presidential candidate, it's just that hardly anyone in the US knows who they are

I mean, look at Michaël Llodra, the racist French tennis player:

After his first round victory over Ernests Gulbis at the 2012 BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, during which Llodra was overheard by fans and journalists making racist and sexist comments to a female Gulbis fan, Llodra was fined $2500 by the ATP for his behaviour. [9] He later admitted making the comments in interviews with French media and complained that the fine was too high. Llodra did not make matters better for himself during an interview with a reporter from the Chinese news Web site SINA.com, in which the Frenchman claimed he attempted to apologize for his remarks. “My words were not aimed at China,” Llodra began. "I love Chinese — I can totally make love with a Chinese girl,” he added, before being cut off by the A.T.P. official monitoring the interview. The journalist, who took offense at the remark, said that he did not find Llodra’s apology sincere. This was not the first incident in which charges of racism have been leveled at Llodra. He denied his comments were racist during his 2011 French Open first round defeat at the hands of Belgian qualifier Steve Darcis, comparing the atmosphere on court to that of a north African souk while veteran Moroccan umpire Mohammed El Jennati was in the chair. [10]

thuggish ruggish Brahms (DJP), Monday, 19 March 2012 17:12 (thirteen years ago)

I think the thing with Tebow in Denver is that Manning would have to be willing to leave the field perhaps on some plays.

If Denver kept Tim Tebow made him the 3rd string QB, sometime H-Back and then just used him at QB like Florida did that first National Championship season (short yardage, red zone running sets), he would be awesome. The guy is a beast of a fullback running the ball.

You never know what might be going on in the background. It could be they offer him to stay and that job or it could be straight trade him out. Thing is other than j-ville, who really is going to want him?
