denver is a good choice for an upset this week. maybe one of new england, atlanta or philly gets caught out on the road. i think tampa beats carolina.

Dallas @ NY Giants: Giants will be distracted by ceremony. Dallas
Indianapolis @ Chicago: Chicago, but excited to see what Luck can do.
St. Louis @ Detroit: Detroit's defense will shred STL's o-line.
Miami @ Houston: Houston will murderize em.
Atlanta @ KC: I need to see a healthy Jamaal Charles before I can pick them. Until then, Falcons.
Washington @ New Orleans: New Orleans is going to be angry.
NE @ Tennessee: Tennessee can't stop all six NE tight ends. Pats.
Buffalo @ NY Jets: Buffalo is a great September team! You'll fall in love with Fitz all over again.
J-ville @ Minnesota: Worst matchup of the week? I'll go with the home team.
Carolina @ Tampa Bay: Carolina is a playoff team this year, maybe? Carolina.
San Fran @ Green Bay: Green Bay is better than San Francisco, and at home.
Pittsburgh @ Denver: Feel like Manning's OL will need to ease into his audible shtick. Pittsburgh.
Cincy @ B-More: Baltimore lost some key guys but it's hard not to pick them at home.
San Diego @ Oaktown: Oakland has a completely new set of CBs. I think they'll need a few weeks to get on the same page. Bolts.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 5 September 2012 03:03 (twelve years ago) link

Dallas @ NY Giants- Isn't it just weird that Michael Strahan ended up being Regis Philbin's replacement? I got to figure Giants as I will be really surprised if Dallas can actually put it together for a big win. Of course, you could figure if Dallas is going to look good and give ESPN reason to gush for hours on end, it's going to be in Sept.

Indianapolis @ Chicago- Well this has to be the year for the Bears as Briggs, Urlacher and Kearse are all like over 30 now, which is ancient in football years. Luck getting the Bears in his first game is interesting. Part of me wants to take the Colts in an upset, but I got to think the Bears with their special teams and whole game should win. I'm going to search the game out though.

St. Louis @ Detroit- World Series rematch. Last time we saw the Rams, they were not very good. I got to think the Lions at home here, but curious to see if it is the Lions of early 2011 or towards the end of last season.

Seattle @ Arizona- Well I hand it to Pete Carroll, him picking Russell Wilson to start out of the 3rd round kind of makes this a curious game. I figure there will be like 10 people east of Az. watching this game. Az lost the pilot and the whole flip a coin, it's just as well with the QB makes them totally suspect. Seattle had a decent at points defense last year. I figure Seahawks.

Philly @ Cleveland- Philly just doesn't seem to add up. I don't think Vick can stay healthy long enough for them to get really good on offense. Oh what the heck, it's week one, gimme the Browns to upset.

Miami @ Houston- Got to think Houston here, if they are for real they can't lose to a rook QB in week 1. Then again this is the Texans.

Atlanta @ KC- Don't know KC at all. I got to go with the Falcons on the road, but I don't know if they are any better this year yet.

Washington @ New Orleans- Interesting matchup for RGIIIs debut. I wouldn't want to be a QB playing against the bountykillers in their first game back. Got to think no matter how screwed up things got, they still got Brees and those skills guys. Saints, but curious to see how good NO's D might be.

NE @ Tennessee- I got to think Pats. If Johnson gets back to form and Locker is OK, Tennessee I think could be a surprise playoff team though. I think Munchak seems like a pretty solid coach.

Buffalo @ NY Jets- Hype is a bitch. I have no idea in this one. I figure Jets at home.

J-ville @ Minnesota- This is the 2nd year QB scramble. Both clubs got a few solid players on D, but I will lean Vikings at home.

Carolina @ Tampa Bay- I think either of these clubs could go 10-6 or 3-13. I'm going to go Carolina. Don't know either club all that well, so I won't be able to even gauge for a couple weeks on them.

San Fran @ Green Bay- This is the Fox GOP game of the week. I'm leaning Packers as I think they get up a couple scores, I'm not sure the Niners have an answer. The game might hold tight until the second half.

Pittsburgh @ Denver- With the return of Peyty, this is an interesting game. Pittsburgh's 3-4 has always been a pain in the keister for Peyty to play against. Kind of curious to see if Denver stays true to their talent and keeps the running game around quite a bit, which I would think they would be smart to do. Steelers D is getting up there in years like the Bears. I'm leaning Steelers.

Cincy @ B-More- I really hope it is the Bengals as I just don't like the Ravens, but I got to take Baltimore.

San Diego @ Oaktown- I guess Chargers, but neither club looks that great on paper.

earlnash, Wednesday, 5 September 2012 03:20 (twelve years ago) link

Dallas @ NY Giants - Giants always stronger in the first half of the season. Dallas always good at shitting their pants in big games.
Indianapolis @ Chicago - Bears to provide meaningful welcome to nfl game
St. Louis @ Detroit - Detroit
Miami @ Houston - Houston in a blowout i think
Atlanta @ KC - falcons
Washington @ New Orleans - saints are furious, this could be a pinball score
NE @ Tennessee - I love the titans but can't see them fully gelling against a team this good this early
Buffalo @ NY Jets - i will be watching this grand battle of defenses with aw fuck, bills i guess? i think they're a playoff team this year.
J-ville @ Minnesota - ugly. vikes i guess
Carolina @ Tampa Bay - go cameroonie
San Fran @ Green Bay - damn this'll be fun. Packers?
Pittsburgh @ Denver - denver but so much depends on a little red wheelbarrow with peytey's head in it
Cincy @ B-More - BENGALS UPSET OH NO but still no playoffs
San Diego @ Oaktown - RRRRRRRAIDAZ
Seattle @ Arizona - don't really care. seattle i guess
Philly @ Cleveland - shady over lolbrowns

the rams btw had no choice but to trade the pick. they have bradford under contract till 2016 for $52 million in guaranteed money. no one in the NFL is going to trade for him on that contract. they're stuck with him. drafting griffin was not a possibility unless they wanted to keep him on the bench for 5 years, or cut sam bradford and pay him $52 million not to play for them. they got screwed by the old rookie contract rules.

Cleveland should've done a lot of things, but elevating Weeden to 1st round status wasn't one of them.

yeah the NFL contract rules are a labyrinth but safe to say it's not that simple.

Yet, there he was, the man on the spot when Condo went down.
How he got there is rather curious, too.
“(Allen) asked if I knew how to long snap, and I was the only one at camp that stood out,” Goethel said. “That’s kind of how I got put in there.”

I kind of think it was smart of him to perform with that vocal group -- Gene's always had that flat affect so that way even if he is a bit off, the other dudes disguise it and he's not going to cop a rash of internet lols for screwing up the anthem, haha.
