Seasonal Highlights thus far:
New coach "Bad" Brad Childress leading up the new look Vikings, bringing Philly's West Coast offense with him, under the aging arm of Brad Johnson.
Last season standout (and big offseason signee) Koren Robinson is out for the year after a 100mph drunken car chase with police outside of St. Peter, no ruling yet, but he's looking at a year suspension
Number one draft pick, IA linebacker Chad Greenway, by all accounts having an excellent training camp, goes out for the year w/knee injury
So....the fun begins!
Tavaris Jackson has looked GREAT in the preseason games, anyone see the kid play?

word on the local sporttalk radio from camp is that Childress def. sees Chester Taylor as his number one back, and he's going to get the opportunity to be the feature back, getting the bulk of the carries right away.

team has been looking good, even the somewhat suspect (minus greenway) linebacking corp.
bad side:
dwight smith wanted to get a hummer in a car outside a club in DT mpls, resulting in yet another vikings scandal!

Good side:
Looks like all the conventional wisdom abt. Childress i.e. "He's going to restore a sense of calm and professionalism to the team blah blah blah" is actually kinda TRUE...even after the disasterous 2nd quarter they kept their heads.....esp. LOVED how Childress - unlike Ticey - stuck with the gameplan...kept running even when Taylor was only getting 1 or 2 yards...eventually it paid off huge in the fourth quarter after we'd tired their line out a bit....
Brad Johnson looked very very sharp, played excellent. Hope to god he can stay healthy
Improved linebacker play, even with Greenway out for season, Napolean Harris even looked somewhat okay, which is a world of improvement for him.
Defense overall was strong, they seem to let teams get some yards in the middle of the field and then tighten up when it matters....Sharper's hit on Moss in the endzone was fucking amazing. Tuff stuff.
Bad Side:
PENALTIES! This has been a Vikes problem for YEARS, and Childress had vowed to fix it, but still we had 9 penalites, a number of them very stupid and drive-killing....That's probably the thing I'm most worried about...
Williamson's butta-fingaz - Kid is fast as hell, but he dropped two balls that could have totally broke the game wide open. If he's our number one that's not excusable, esp. cuz Brad threw these balls PERFECTLY, right at his hands, perfect touch.
Offensive lines - looked better in the 2nd half, but I guess I expected more considering all the money they have tied up in them....

i don't know if they have the offense to take that elusive "next step"

this game was insane.
Fox's call to do that wacky trick punt return was the dumbest move I've ever seen. He handed the vikes the game...loved Childress trick play though, brilliant, cuz that was the only fucking way were were going to see the end zone.
Julius Peppers is, like, a fucking monster. What a player. He dominated that game and we still managed to win.
Being 2-0 right now is pretty great, considering.....I was pretty much expecting us to be 0-3 after the Bears next week....although I think luck and reality is going to catch up with us in a big way next week.
