...not a quarterback, because this is the weakest quarterback class in forfuckingever.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 8 January 2013 19:34 (twelve years ago)

guess philly should grab Te'o and see if foles develops into something and if not shoot for a qb in 2014

Mordy, Tuesday, 8 January 2013 19:36 (twelve years ago)

philly is not going to draft te'o

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 January 2013 19:36 (twelve years ago)

unless you're talking about the second round

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 January 2013 19:37 (twelve years ago)

also ryans was good for the eagles this year

they're gonna take a tackle or a pass rusher... but you could say that about every team in the top 10 w/ the way this class is shaping up

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 January 2013 19:38 (twelve years ago)

I do think that the Jets might take either Barkley or Geno Smith if one falls to #9, because loljets.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 8 January 2013 19:39 (twelve years ago)

taking a QB at 9 wouldn't be out of the question imo

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 January 2013 19:48 (twelve years ago)

Seems like this draft is going to be all about linemen at the top, and that wouldn't be a bad idea for the Chiefs. Defensive line?

Other than Jadeveon Clowney, is there any other underclassmen that would potentially go #1 if they could be in the draft?

I'd imagine if you ranked NFL prospects that dude has to be #1 of all players out there. There was some plays in that Michigan bowl game where it was like watching a man playing pop warner. He about kilt that Michigan running back on that play where for some reason 'someone forgot to block him'.

Spurrier said Clowney came to SC ready to play and could've possibly gone straight from high school to the NFL. I almost believe that.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 03:25 (twelve years ago)

there was a brief moment in that clip when i thought, 'oh he's not that tall' then i realized everyone else around him seemed to be the same height because they were jumping up to congratulate him.

For all the talk about qbs rising in the draft, I still think Smith is the only one to go Thursday night.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 April 2013 16:53 (twelve years ago)

i bet some bad team will panic and draft another one

nassib's gonna get drafted tomorrow night

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 24 April 2013 17:17 (twelve years ago)

i don't doubt there will be more than 1 qb go in the 1st and it'll be a great desperation indicator. who is new and panicking, who is old and close to the axe.

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 24 April 2013 17:19 (twelve years ago)

lol @ the rumor Cleveland might sneak up to get Geno Smith.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:10 (twelve years ago)

I mean, lol if it's true and lol if it's not true.

Cleveland, what are you going to do?

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:11 (twelve years ago)

weeden is getting close to that retirement age iirc tbh so...

johnny crunch, Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:12 (twelve years ago)

NE also apparently entertaining offers for Ryan Mallett.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:24 (twelve years ago)

i like geno, personally

it's a gamble as a top 10 pick def but i wouldn't hate it

J0rdan S., Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:25 (twelve years ago)

I understand that the ownership and coaching staffs have changed hands since Weeden was drafted, but they shouldn't waste a top 10 pick on Smith. Wait until the class looks better next year.

Hard to believe "compares to Phil Loadholt" (Fluker) is worth #11. Loadholt was mid 2nd round a few years ago. With O line performance depending so much on the whole group I wonder if the Alabama linemen are getting overrated in terms of their individual abilities. The Chargers line will probably be a downgrade for Fluker from last year in terms of who's on the line with him.

Plasmon, Friday, 26 April 2013 01:36 (twelve years ago)

that vikings trade for the pats pick was nuts

like, the dolphins traded a second round pick to get the no. 3 overall pick

the vikings traded a second, third, fourth and seventh to get the no. 29 overall pick

J0rdan S., Friday, 26 April 2013 14:22 (twelve years ago)

that is Vikings football in a nutshell; the only way it could be more Vikings-y is if they picked Teo twice

Call me at **BITCOIN (DJP), Friday, 26 April 2013 14:24 (twelve years ago)

at least they picked a potential superstar receiver, if you're gonna go for broke at least really go for broke

J0rdan S., Friday, 26 April 2013 14:26 (twelve years ago)

in a perfect world, the vikings told teo they were going to pick him each time they went up, and then after they got the wr at 29, the rams told teo don't worry, we got u, and then drafted that other ilb at 30

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 26 April 2013 14:28 (twelve years ago)

this was the first time I watched the draft btw and I was mostly just drinking beers and being bemused until the Vikings trade came up and they started floating Teo as a target, at which point the room did one of those horror movie receding pans around me while I shouted "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

barnwell on vikes trade with NE: "it took what had been an excellent Vikings draft and ruined their night."

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 26 April 2013 16:27 (twelve years ago)

eh ppl get so obsessed with who got what picks, and new england loves acquiring picks

end of day, the vikings obv thing that patterson is a big time player and a legit star receiver. if they are right they will look like genius and no one will remember the picks.

i didn't even think it was that bad. we still have 4th, 5th, 6th, and 2 7th round picks, so from our perspective we turned our 1st 2nd and 3rd rounders into 3 first rounders

one thing that's important to note too is that first rounders are under team control for 5 years, not 4 years, big thing with the new CBA that might have been a factor

ums (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 26 April 2013 16:32 (twelve years ago)

depth is important tho, if Patterson turns out to be merely good instead of a star and the vikes have noticeable holes elsewhere than ditching four draft picks becomes a problem

That doesn't seem so crazy to me.

According to some value calculator I found:

3rd pick: 1759 pts; 12th and 42nd: 1981 pts

29th pick: 853 pts, pick 52, 83, 120, and 229: 1773 pts

polyphonic, Saturday, 27 April 2013 04:05 (twelve years ago)

context is important too, round 1 picks supposedly less important this year, 2 and 3 more. it's a julio jones - an over-expensive trade that will leave the team with holes, but if the guy turns out to be a stud no one will mind so much

Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 27 April 2013 11:48 (twelve years ago)

A lot of these picks were extra picks, we are still making 8 picks in this draft and every round 4 and on, we just turned 2nd and 3rd rounds into 1sts

Another thing to remember is the new CBA and how 1st round contracts are 5 year team control instead of 4, that's huge
