Invites are apparently a little different this year. If you have any trouble signing up, let me know.
Exact same settings as last year's league. The live draft will be Thursday August 29th at 9:30pm Eastern/6:30pm Pacific, but it can be changed if someone has immovable plans.
Woop!

CHICAGO—Competitors in Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football league Super Bowl Shuffle expressed concern Thursday about the mental state of league member Evan Reeves, whose choice of team names over the past five years reportedly paints a picture of a man gradually descending into utter madness. “When we first started out a few years back, Evan just called his squad Butkus’ Dick, but his name choices these last few seasons have been increasingly unsettling,” fellow virtual manager Jay Steiner said of Reeves, 29, whose unhinged team names have since included “The Widening Gyre,” “What Does GOD Fear?” and “PLAGUEPLAGUEPLAGUEPL.” “I haven’t seen this guy since college, but judging from his behavior, he appears to be entering into some kind of bizarre state of irreversible derangement, all while actively participating in our friendly 12-team keeper league. It’s pretty disturbing to watch someone plunge into the darkest chasms of lunacy before your very eyes, plus all those Bible passages are really starting to clog up the message board.” As further evidence of Reeves’ ongoing slide into full-blown psychosis, Steiner noted that this year the deeply disturbed individual drafted Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco in the first round.

ONE WEEK, FOOLS!
― Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 22 August 2013 23:20 (twelve years ago)
I'm looking at the way this league is set up. Last year, under this scoring system, 22 of the top 25 players in total points were quarterbacks, including such luminaries as Christian Ponder and Ryan Fitzpatrick. This seems weird to me?
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 22:39 (twelve years ago)
that's actually fairly normal (eg even in standard leagues last year drew brees was the top scorer). here their value is only going to be amplified. the cw generally is that the gap between the top tier qb's and the median fantasy starter isn't as significant as it is w/ rb's ie. much larger difference in points between a rb drafted in first round vs fifth round than w/ qb's (this may not really be true. esp the way our league is set up.). for example wait til fifth or sixth round to grab yr starting qb using espn's average draft position and you're getting matthew stafford or russell wilson. it's plausible you can win yr league w/ those guys as yr starting qb. wait til the fifth or sixth round to draft a rb and you're picking from lamar miller or ryan matthews. good luck w/ that. it's comparable to how when rookie salaries really got ridiculous it became a factor in qb's going number one cuz it's the position it's most easy to justify spending that much money on. our league is somewhat different and you can win waiting to the third or fourth (which is plausibly the latest you'd wait if you filled out all of yr other offensive starting slots first, so you'd get reggie bush or darren mcfadden as yr #1 instead of lamar miller), esp if you get lucky and someone always gets lucky w/ running back. i've never done a two qb league where you start two qb's and i hear that drafting strategy cw is the same or whatever but i've always thought if i was in a league like that and draft position made it possible (so i'm drafting mid to late first round i guess) i'd take two of the top qbs.
― balls, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 23:12 (twelve years ago)
As a comparison, in ESPN scoring 9 of 25 top players were not quarterbacks:
http://tinyurl.com/nvme3bx
I dunno it just seems a little imbalanced to me.
Our league has not always had the same setup. I'm not saying we should change it, just thought it might be worth discussing.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 23:36 (twelve years ago)
i've never been totally clear on whether our setup actually makes qb's worth more since it's not like it does anything to increase scarcity. i know there's been drafts when i drafted whatever #3 rb i was "supposed" to and then someone snatch aaron rodgers and i was like 'goddamnit i KNEW it'.
― balls, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 23:46 (twelve years ago)
The scoring has remained exactly the same for the last two or three seasons iirc. I've just forwarded the previous year's settings.
― Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 04:24 (twelve years ago)
The draft isn't until Thursday night. If you guys can think of specific positions/situations you'd like scored differently, I've got time to change things.
― Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 04:26 (twelve years ago)
i feel like after a few years of tweaks we've got to a scoring system that people have been pretty happy with. but all suggestions are worth considering imo.
on the specific issue of QBs seem to be overvalued in our system, i personally do not have a philosophical objection to that. this is your 2013 nfl after all.

C- yahoo's computer is upset that i didn't draft a complete starting lineup. despite my starting RBs and QB being in my "top 5 picks" it suggests i pick up danny woodhead and ej manuel to improve these weak areas. i do apparently have the "top trio of WRs in the league" although the real highlight of my team, i am assured, is the NE defense.
― Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 30 August 2013 11:30 (eleven years ago)
my report card said i ended up with one of the best receiving corps in the league but later indicated that my WRs were an "especially weak unit."

Austinland (3)Defending Champions (2)Defending Champions (Brownie) scored a league-high 190.99 points last week. Soon to be the Defending Defending Champions? My team has been pretty lucky this season, with the least Points Against. Don't think that'll happen this week.

I was dead in this league a long time ago, but I'm #2 in my other one. With Gronk's injury, I can either go with Martellus Bennett (my te #2) or try to pick up Jordan Cameron or Charles Clay from freeagency. Recommendations?
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 10 December 2013 23:25 (eleven years ago)
browns have no running game so Cameron may be a smart play - Campbell runs hot and cold tho at QB. I have two browns (Gordon and Cameron) and two Cardinals (Floyd and Fitz) as my receivers so structurally I am suspect. I may have reach into my bag of tricks to pull out this semifinal win.
