I got to say that Rex Ryan coaching the Jets to an 8-8 record with that offense is pretty impressive. It's almost too bad that the Jets are probably going to retain him as I could see Ryan being a pretty good coach for that Detroit club.

― Mr. Snrub, Monday, 30 December 2013 00:59 (eleven years ago)
If Chudzinski gets fired considering the roster situation he found himself with as the season progressed, it would serve the Browns right to go winless next year with whomever they hire.

― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 30 December 2013 02:04 (eleven years ago)
I'm seeing mocks with the Browns taking Bortles. I just can't deal with the idea of a great NFL QB named Blake Bortles.
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 30 December 2013 02:08 (eleven years ago)
Bortles is pretty crafty, but he plays in the AAC so it's not really a good measure of opposing defenses.

I'm thinking this year's NFL playoffs looks pretty wide open. Seattle and Denver are definitely going to be the front runners, but I think neither one is proven to unbeatable even at home. I also think the NFC Wild Card teams are particularly interesting as I think the Saints and Niners both have done it before and especially with SF playing well heading into the playoffs. Indy has also very quietly played very well the last month of the season, seeming to right both issues on the defense and the loss of Reggie Wayne at mid season. Kind of like with the Cardinals in baseball or Duke in college hoops, you look at NE and figure they might surprise and win it all when they don't seem like a favorite it all, as they had really good clubs that didn't win it all. The Blue Devils and Cardinals won a couple of championships in the past decade with similar story lines.

A story that might go underneath the radar a bit with all of the other NFL story lines going on is that Miami won their biggest game against the Pats and only had to win 1 to get into the playoffs and then went out and got shutout by the Bills and beat by the Jets at home. That's got to be really a bigger stumble than the Cowboys or Bears stories which will probably get more press. That's a pretty big shank by the Dolphins.
― earlnash, Monday, 30 December 2013 06:05 (eleven years ago)
It'll probably go under the radar because the Dolphins overperformed to begin with.

Scott Kacsmar @FO_ScottKacsmar 21m

― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 30 December 2013 08:09 (eleven years ago)
I still feel like the Lions blew it harder considering what Johnny Fever said; Miami at best was one of those 6 seeds that kinda sneaks in while a lot of people legitimately thought that the Lions offense could be unstoppable. And they only needed 9 wins to take the division.

So looking at the final results for strength of schedule this season 4 of the 5 easiest schedules this year belong to AFC playoff teams, with the Broncos at the very bottom.
― Fetchboy, Monday, 30 December 2013 19:29 (eleven years ago)
Scratch that, that was based on last season's records.
― Fetchboy, Monday, 30 December 2013 19:34 (eleven years ago)
The AFC West (three playoff teams) played the NFC East (garbage fire) this year so that probably has something to do with it.
― polyphonic, Monday, 30 December 2013 19:35 (eleven years ago)
Easiest SoS based on this year's records:1. Chiefs (.445) 2. Eagles (.453) 3. Lions (.457) really no excuse there4. Bears (.465) 5. Broncos/Steelers (.469)
― Fetchboy, Monday, 30 December 2013 19:46 (eleven years ago)

― brownie, Monday, 30 December 2013 22:39 (eleven years ago)
I could see Washington throwing a mint at Bill Cowher and then in 3 years it won't work either, so you could add him to the list with the other great coaches that failed with the snyde.
Marty SchottenheimerSteve SpurrierJoe GibbsMike Shanahan
I'd think Cowher would fit in perfect in that list.
