the funny thing about this is that i thought i had fucked up my right index finger, went & got x rays on it and was told that i had "trackpad finger", so i'm v sensitive to your post

if noone wants a separate metal board then all metal threads are done on ILM. it's as simple as that. If you dont like them dont read them. Noone is going around telling goons to stop making threads. ILM is supposed to be for everyone as was made clear by people who were against a sub-board which included those who do like metal and those who dont.

xp

i tried to ruin ilx? haha get real. I was not the person who set out to ruin a sub-board.

Whiney otm tho

Aerosol, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:18 (thirteen years ago) link

goons, what do you think of san te always starting new rap threads

― dayo, Monday, March 21, 2011 12:15 AM (3 minutes ago) Bookmark

it depends -- when he starts threads about non-current rap i don't have a problem w/ it, but otherwise i think it's stupid

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:19 (thirteen years ago) link

one of the less irritatingly excessive aspects of his posting style

flopson, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:20 (thirteen years ago) link

srs question - why does what you think matter at all about how other people start threads tho? xpost

broke my o_O face o_O (jjjusten), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:21 (thirteen years ago) link

whiney - wasn't it this time last year when we were complaining about a buttload of crappy bracket polls

sarahel, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:21 (thirteen years ago) link

It's not that ilx hates metal it's that it hates shitty threads. Youre like trying to fuck kids at a birthday party and going "why do you hate clowns?"

hey jelixy (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:21 (thirteen years ago) link

i'm not saying it does, which is why i don't go around complaining about threads any more than the average high-volume ilx poster

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:22 (thirteen years ago) link

Xpost lol yes. whiney g, ilx neat freak! :)

fwiw i really hate it when people start a lot of stupid threads

so whiney you want only 1 rolling metal thread and no other metal threads on ilm everything to stay on it?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:23 (thirteen years ago) link

I dont understand this "things get lost" assertion some people have - we do have a perfectly functional search function!

eg the other day I was into some Meshuggah jams so I looked up a random mesguggah thread, revived it, and it stayed up a day or 2. If I'd had to trawl thru a single metal thread of 7565453453453 posts I would not have bothered.

bad voise, it sucked, pick a seat (Trayce), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:24 (thirteen years ago) link

like you always seem to have a problem with a large number of the same kind of "stupid" thread: bracket polls, autechre threads, the beatles and radiohead polls ...oh yeah and the listening clubs.

sarahel, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:24 (thirteen years ago) link

DONT MAKE THIS ABOUT ME

hey jelixy (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:24 (thirteen years ago) link

are rolling metal threads more ubiquitous than the beatles?

dayo, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:25 (thirteen years ago) link

you know what i hate? self-indulgent threads about book deals always shitting up my sna, those guys are the worst

oh whoops xpost

come on whiney you want only 1 rolling metal thread and no other metal threads on ilm everything to stay on it?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:26 (thirteen years ago) link

honestly, can't we look on the bright side and appreciate the fact there aren't tons of bracket polls anymore?

sarahel, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:26 (thirteen years ago) link

There's two threads, you dumb dipshit. WHOOPS

hey jelixy (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:27 (thirteen years ago) link

granted i'm ignorant of metal, but i guess my point is that it seems to me that the 41 combined posts in 'rolling power metal' and 'rolling black metal' could easily be folded into the already existing 'rolling metal thread'

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:27 (thirteen years ago) link

idk people who are interested in power metal prob dont want to interact w ppl who are interested in black metal

dayo, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:28 (thirteen years ago) link

goons are more open to cross-pollination #thatsracist

dayo, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:28 (thirteen years ago) link

AG, i want many many many metal threads, as I love metal. But having six rolling threads is overkill, come on

hey jelixy (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:29 (thirteen years ago) link

or do you just like telling people what threads are ok with you and those that aren't? Whiney G Weingarten Superthreadcop

like if we already had a 'rolling cereal thread', but then had a 'rolling fruit loops thread' and a 'rolling cheerios thread' and a 'rolling frosted flakes thread' and a 'rolling apple jacks thread' and a 'rolling corn pops thread' i think most ppl would go "i think this cereal discussion could be condensed'

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:29 (thirteen years ago) link

why

broke my o_O face o_O (jjjusten), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:30 (thirteen years ago) link

c'mon Whiney -- don't compete with gr80 for captain of ilx thread police

sarahel, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:30 (thirteen years ago) link

fuck ppl who like fruit loops imo

dayo, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:30 (thirteen years ago) link

Hahaha it's just silly! Goon is like the same 20 ppl, rolling metal is the same 20 ppl. Why chop them up?

hey jelixy (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:30 (thirteen years ago) link

like who gives a shit, are we running low on server space or something? this whole thing is so bizarre to me multixpoast

broke my o_O face o_O (jjjusten), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:31 (thirteen years ago) link

why are there sub boards in the first place?

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:31 (thirteen years ago) link

why did you create a sub board two days ago?

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:31 (thirteen years ago) link

the sub-genre rolling threads are there to stop threads being made on every metal band ever. I would have thought half a dozen rolling threads would be better than that. there is a problem with the rolling metal thread, everything gets lost in it.
Trayce might be in favour of having a thread on every band or album but im pretty sure noone else does.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

have you considered that if your goon threads weren't just these huge cluttered threads that maybe more people would post on them? Like it kinda seems that the way your threads are set up, they're set up to be a bit insular?

sarahel, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

why have ilm posters by and large in the last 5 years or so chosen to start rolling threads every year?

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

also uh you dudes realize that (ok not j0rdan) this is kinda a counter-argument to getting rid of the metal board right? or do you just like complaining for no reason

broke my o_O face o_O (jjjusten), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

goons like being insular, no wai!

dayo, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

in terms of cultivating participation in threads, using the goon threads as a comparison is kinda ridiculous.

sarahel, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:34 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't even see why this is important, bu i'll address it anyway -- the idea that the rolling rap thread is insular is bullshit. there is a small community of consistent posters because a small amount of ilxors follow rap really closely -- there have been various posters of the past few years (zvookster, tpp, flopson, spottie_ottie etc to name a few) that have just shown up out of the blue and started posting in the thread -- it's incredibly easy to follow, there's probably 10-15 posts a day on average

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:35 (thirteen years ago) link

sarahel, noted goon thread expert

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Trayce might be in favour of having a thread on every band or album but im pretty sure noone else does.

Dude there's plenty of individual threads on various pop, electronic, new wave and indie bands and even individual albums (and tours!). Isnt that the point of "I Love Music"?

bad voise, it sucked, pick a seat (Trayce), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:37 (thirteen years ago) link

goon thred is a nice model imo, i think of it as main artery or water cooler of rap discussion on ilx. for generalist bullshitting & youtubes not fit for preexisting threads

u make a thread on the band/album if u think it'll take off or if it feels like it's getting big or if u want to spread exposure. like WAKA or ODD FUTURE WOLF GANG KILL THEM ALL or lil b: the based god last year. some ppl have no restraint

flopson, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:37 (thirteen years ago) link

i want to be clear & say that i'm not advocating for ilm to be made up of 8 threads rolling threads a year -- just the notion of 8 rolling threads a year for one genre seems paradoxical & superfluous, also clogs new answers which personally bothers me

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:39 (thirteen years ago) link

or we keep it to its own subgenre thread. which i think is better. If jordan has a problem with 5 metal threads on ILM, dont you think him & others would object to dozens of metal threads created every day?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:40 (thirteen years ago) link

btw, the gonns have already subconsciously rejected this model -- SLAPS---> nu-bay post-hyphy post-jerk <---SLAPS
