people who worry about there not being enough quality threads obviously haven't been to I LOVE CRICKET: THE CHINATOWN OF ILX: THE CHINATOWN OF ILX

come on whiney you want only 1 rolling metal thread and no other metal threads on ilm everything to stay on it?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:26 (thirteen years ago) link

honestly, can't we look on the bright side and appreciate the fact there aren't tons of bracket polls anymore?

sarahel, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:26 (thirteen years ago) link

There's two threads, you dumb dipshit. WHOOPS

hey jelixy (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:27 (thirteen years ago) link

granted i'm ignorant of metal, but i guess my point is that it seems to me that the 41 combined posts in 'rolling power metal' and 'rolling black metal' could easily be folded into the already existing 'rolling metal thread'

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:27 (thirteen years ago) link

idk people who are interested in power metal prob dont want to interact w ppl who are interested in black metal

dayo, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:28 (thirteen years ago) link

goons are more open to cross-pollination #thatsracist

dayo, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:28 (thirteen years ago) link

AG, i want many many many metal threads, as I love metal. But having six rolling threads is overkill, come on

hey jelixy (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:29 (thirteen years ago) link

or do you just like telling people what threads are ok with you and those that aren't? Whiney G Weingarten Superthreadcop

like if we already had a 'rolling cereal thread', but then had a 'rolling fruit loops thread' and a 'rolling cheerios thread' and a 'rolling frosted flakes thread' and a 'rolling apple jacks thread' and a 'rolling corn pops thread' i think most ppl would go "i think this cereal discussion could be condensed'

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:29 (thirteen years ago) link

why

broke my o_O face o_O (jjjusten), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:30 (thirteen years ago) link

c'mon Whiney -- don't compete with gr80 for captain of ilx thread police

fuck ppl who like fruit loops imo

dayo, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:30 (thirteen years ago) link

Hahaha it's just silly! Goon is like the same 20 ppl, rolling metal is the same 20 ppl. Why chop them up?

hey jelixy (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:30 (thirteen years ago) link

like who gives a shit, are we running low on server space or something? this whole thing is so bizarre to me multixpoast

why are there sub boards in the first place?

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:31 (thirteen years ago) link

why did you create a sub board two days ago?

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:31 (thirteen years ago) link

the sub-genre rolling threads are there to stop threads being made on every metal band ever. I would have thought half a dozen rolling threads would be better than that. there is a problem with the rolling metal thread, everything gets lost in it.
Trayce might be in favour of having a thread on every band or album but im pretty sure noone else does.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

have you considered that if your goon threads weren't just these huge cluttered threads that maybe more people would post on them? Like it kinda seems that the way your threads are set up, they're set up to be a bit insular?

sarahel, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

why have ilm posters by and large in the last 5 years or so chosen to start rolling threads every year?

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

also uh you dudes realize that (ok not j0rdan) this is kinda a counter-argument to getting rid of the metal board right? or do you just like complaining for no reason

broke my o_O face o_O (jjjusten), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

goons like being insular, no wai!

dayo, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

in terms of cultivating participation in threads, using the goon threads as a comparison is kinda ridiculous.

sarahel, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:34 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't even see why this is important, bu i'll address it anyway -- the idea that the rolling rap thread is insular is bullshit. there is a small community of consistent posters because a small amount of ilxors follow rap really closely -- there have been various posters of the past few years (zvookster, tpp, flopson, spottie_ottie etc to name a few) that have just shown up out of the blue and started posting in the thread -- it's incredibly easy to follow, there's probably 10-15 posts a day on average

Dude there's plenty of individual threads on various pop, electronic, new wave and indie bands and even individual albums (and tours!). Isnt that the point of "I Love Music"?

bad voise, it sucked, pick a seat (Trayce), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:37 (thirteen years ago) link

goon thred is a nice model imo, i think of it as main artery or water cooler of rap discussion on ilx. for generalist bullshitting & youtubes not fit for preexisting threads

u make a thread on the band/album if u think it'll take off or if it feels like it's getting big or if u want to spread exposure. like WAKA or ODD FUTURE WOLF GANG KILL THEM ALL or lil b: the based god last year. some ppl have no restraint

flopson, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:37 (thirteen years ago) link

i want to be clear & say that i'm not advocating for ilm to be made up of 8 threads rolling threads a year -- just the notion of 8 rolling threads a year for one genre seems paradoxical & superfluous, also clogs new answers which personally bothers me

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:39 (thirteen years ago) link

or we keep it to its own subgenre thread. which i think is better. If jordan has a problem with 5 metal threads on ILM, dont you think him & others would object to dozens of metal threads created every day?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:40 (thirteen years ago) link

whiney started a thread in 'rolling black ice metal' vein but no one bothered w/ it

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:41 (thirteen years ago) link

i kinda want to move the (now locked) "delete this board now" thread to imp just to make it clear that a bunch of people are playing both sides of the field, and also to make my reposted thing up there make a lot more sense in context, because most of the egregious bullshit im talking about happened in that thread

i know jordan was happy to have a metal sub-board, but the rest of you didn't want it. So now you just have to deal with a few extra rolling metal sub-genre threads

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:41 (thirteen years ago) link

Black Ice was a good band, imo

like i already explained -- i would have no problem w/ this because these threads would fall off the top of new answers pretty quickly because they'd have like 5-10 posts each (this is how the board is designed to work) -- and if they didn't fall off new answers and there were 50 metal threads w/ 50 posts each at the top of new answers, i think it would be time for a sub board

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:42 (thirteen years ago) link

john i think this thread should be on ILE so everyone who campaigned against the metal board can see this

this is why idg why we are arguing about this. just like that, if ppl support the current model of rolling subgenre threads then those threads will stay alive. if not, they fall off SNA and die. #WHOGIVESASHIT

is whiney just whining because he cant get the secret invite only goon board he didn't actually really want but was just trying to make a drama out of it all?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 04:46 (thirteen years ago) link

I may have missed something that kicked all this off and I'd like to know what it was but:

If jordan has a problem with 5 metal threads on ILM, dont you think him & others would object to dozens of metal threads created every day?

- would this really ever happen? Seriously? Dozens of metal threads started anew every single day? Who would ever do this with any genre?

bad voise, it sucked, pick a seat (Trayce), Monday, 21 March 2011 04:51 (thirteen years ago) link

well if posts on a rolling metal thread is enough to keep them top of new answers then individual threads on the bands/albums are bound to happen if rolling threads are banned just because they are for metal.

Roxy is posting on the rolling bm exclusively because the chat on the big rolling thread doesnt interest her. The other subgenre threads have that with other people.

Why should we not be allowed to have these threads if we want them?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 05:01 (thirteen years ago) link

i'm not saying that you guys should not be allowed to have what you want -- notice i haven't asked john to delete the threads or w/e -- personally i was just questioning the necessity of the various sub-genre threads

(also empirically & generally speaking not all sub-communities of posters get to have what they wa because the general community is much larger than a group of 30 or so ppl)

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 March 2011 05:03 (thirteen years ago) link

you do realise that there are hundreds of sub-genres in a genre that is still evolving after 40 years. Not everyone likes every genre Some people hate other genres. Some only want to talk about 1 or 2 or whatever of these genres. some like more mainstream stuff some like to talk about black metal bands who release tapes ltd to 200 copies. It's a big big world in metal.
you cant contain it all in one thread. Any why should metal fans on ilx be forced to stay in one rolling thread?
xp

that response is to trayce

i know jordan, and i appreciate you being level-headed on this. But noone wanted the metal board so they have to deal with more metal threads on ilm. I know you were happy with a subboard which made it easier for you to avoid, but 99% of ilx was against it. Metal fans & non metal fans. That is why it was deleted.
As a result it just means there are more metal related threads on ILM. Maybe keith can come up with a way to hide certain genres , i dont know. But i get the feeling the same people who wanted to keep ILM together will be against that too and against whineys goon board.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 05:10 (thirteen years ago) link

personally i was just questioning the necessity of the various sub-genre threads

I'll repost the bit on the metal board that got deleted that (tried) to explain why some people find the main metal thread too unwieldy. Im not very good at explaining things, so perhaps someone will come along later to try to explain better.

This thread is quite promo based and fast moving at times. This causes a problem for some (not all). Part of the reason some wanted a new board. So i'd like to offer a compromise.

I would like to keep the rolling industro thread plz.

i still say the rolling threads should exist so stuff doesnt get lost in the rolling thread. its pretty hard to discuss stuff when it was discussed by a select few 300 posts & promos ago.

― Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 20 March 2011 21:28 (20 minutes ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

worth keeping rolling sub-genre threads too, I should think. The Rolling thread moves too fast some times, good to have some space to talk about genre records without the constant churn of the main thread.

i understand those with promos dont get that some find it a bit off-putting but maybe they could try to understand those who do.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 05:16 (thirteen years ago) link

since this thread is discussing what should or shouldn't happen on ILM, shouldn't this thread be on ILM so everyone can take part?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 05:25 (thirteen years ago) link

is there really anything more to say about this?
