i'm surprised because i've never seen turangilia act like this. he always seems really mellow on ilx but maybe i've missed things. i enjoy his facebook posts a great deal. i feel bad about the whole thing. having said that, i flagposted his restraining order post and i've flagged about 2 posts the whole time that thing as existed. not acceptable at all in my opinion.

if yr going to get all juridicial abt it then u have to consider specific intent as well as victim's specific feelings and i don't think turangalila was trying to cause offence on that scale, evidenced by prompt apology

tbh I don't think there's a hard and fast rule about banning due to real name-dropping, not even really an offense unless that person has expressly said not to use their real name previously, which wasn't the case in the DJP/Morbius incident, I think. I know I've used DJP's name occasionally but I don't think he cares?

I've previously argued that using a person's /first/ name, and that alone, on a thread isn't really that big of a deal even if they want some semblance of anonymity, unless they have a name that's either uniquely identifiable on the board or uniquely identifiable in the world at large. For instance, googling nabisco's first name definitely leads you to him pretty quickly, whereas googling "mike" isn't going to do much to track me down on ilx, let alone in the world at large.

I think it's reasonable to account for the fact that some ILXors have actual IRL overenthusiastic/creepy fans and others don't when making these sorts of decisions.
