I had been under the impression that Luna was Chaki.

I would have thought spamming all the boards with personal insults about a Mod might have been the reason for Chaki's ban.

I wasn't talking about Chaki's ban, I was referring to when he first made his allegations against Luna and people were calling him a liar and an asshole.

I'd be wondering if it was really her husband or if she was trying to terminate contact for whatever reason by inventing a character to nuke the relationship, opening up with more true, verifiable details to scare you off

It was out of the blue. We don't have much of a relationship other than online phone games and the occasional text, so all she'd need to do to terminate contact is like not contact me. I mean I was already scared off all those years back from any deeper relationship than what I just described.

chaki was an asshole and was very...obtuse when posting, so it was difficult to take anything he said seriously

Oddly enough, I run into Chaki all the time irl.

He also had a track record of being abusive and rude to female posters and did so a couple of times on that thread. So it's hardly surprising that some people didn't immediately believe him, especially if they hadn't been following the situation closely, and given that L was a very good liar.

You can do both, and you're more effective at the latter if you've done the former

If Chaki had laid out the facts of the case immediately, maybe people would've treated him differently, but IIRC he was calling Luna "fake" for several days before he actually bothered to explain what he meant by that. There were many of us who had no idea what this "fake" business was all about (at first I though he meant Luna had fake boobs), because it had never been discussed openly on ILX until after Chaki's messages. So to us, at first, it looked like a poster who was well-known to be a bit trollish was abusing another poster, not that he was trying to exposed an actual scammer.

I searched the archives, and there were three days of Chaki's "fake" posts before he bothered to explain what he meant by it.

husband said he got access to 2 of her email accounts; I only knew of 1. He grilled her last night and she admitted to a lot of shit. I hope he holds to what he told me and leaves ASAP. Said all he cares about now is their son, and man, I hope he's not too scarred/damaged at this point.

OK, fuck it, so much for subtlety. I said he, you dopes, because I was trying to be subtle. WCC has been a destructive presence on this board for a decade or more, constantly threatening self-harm and harassing posters here and elsewhere for real and imagined slights, and that stuff goes unpunished because of -- what exactly? Wasn't saying it was the same case, was saying the mods are more vigililent with tiny little shit than able to actually do anything when it is actually important and the posters are both established and very destructive.

man sounds like the husband is in a tough spot. it's going to be hard going for him getting away and fighting for custody and looking after the son all on his own. I wonder if anyone's going to be able to help him out in this troubling time, what with the undoubted financial impact.
