two months pass...

what's the reason we don't have this again?

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 09:24 (eighteen years ago)

because no one involved in the coding cares that people want it, or cares enough to tell us why it's "hard to do". which sucks.

This is in the code now. Keith hasn't been around for some time (I haven't seen him, at least), and perhaps stet doesn't want to update code without his OK.

Ye-es, this *was* in the code -- it was being tested on the sandbox to see if we could have unreg posting for IRE. But it was kind of a kludge, and when Heave Ho got his hands on it, we found that it doesn't really work right -- you can't ban someone posting with a changed name, and there's a couple of other security holes.

Thing is, this code was never designed for changable names, and as sandbox showed it's not really easy to stitch in -- you'd need to redesign all over the place. So I wouldn't expect it any time soon, sorry.

stet, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

thanks for the explanation, stet.

jergïns, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 18:56 (seventeen years ago)

le sigh.

banSomeoneWithChangedName = true
plugSecurityHole1 = true
plugSecurityHole2 = true
enableStitchIn = true
redesignAllOverPlace = true

fixed

Perhaps this can be done in a way so the (bannable) original registered name always displays, along with the changed name?

The Reverend, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:21 (seventeen years ago)

Not sure if this is the right thread to ask this, but it's the closest I could find. If we want to change our names on a permanent basis, but keep the same e-mail address, is it possible for a moderator to do that? Or do we have to reregister with a new address?
