why was this shit made public -- and at like 2 in the morning on a saturday when no one is online to protest -- not feeling this at all. i think there are a lot of posts on there which were understood not to be public -- there wasnt even much meta going on & i dont get what you dudes are mad about. someone referring to a shakey mo joke & about how it was played out?? ppl posting pix of Ned (who does have access to 77)?? it makes no sense

i must protest!

yeah john i don't get why you feel like ppl have a personal vendetta against you. as i said in the other thread, you always get caught up in this shit because you and tom are the only mods who actively post or at least actively post on 77 and the sub boards where most 77 ppl also congregate. as you've stated before you obv don't think that 77 being private has anything to do w/ the good of ilx - and certainly today's shakey mo/ned 'incident' was barely a pin prick in the history of meta on ilx - you're just being spiteful which is how tom mods which is how you used to not mod which is what made you the 'different' and acceptable mod

I posted this on the other thread and might as well repost it here:

Yeah, the assumption all along has been that 77 would be inaccessable to the general public (I don't just mean general ILX, I don't care about them being able to read 77) and as such there are a bazillion things there that people have posted under the assumption that not just anyone can read them. The moderators knew this and on multiple occassions assured that 77 would remain inaccessible to the the general public. I'm not usually into board lawyering, but this was truly uncalled for and could have irl consequences for people who expected that a private board would remain private.

If a few posters are breaking the rules, you have plenty of tools at your disposal that don't potentially harm many other posters who have done nothing wrong.

I mean, I don't even really care if any registered ILX poster can read and post to 77, but I very much do care that outsiders are not able to. I would expecially appreciate it if this decision is reversed before google has a chance to cache any 77 threads.

We don't all live in the US, do we?

Anyway, here's a solution to the privacy issue I suggested in the other thread:

If mods don't want a secret board to exist anymore, I think the most sensible solution would be to...

1) keep the whole 77 board secret but completely lock it, so everything remains read-only, no new threads or posts can be made, and only people who were 77 members can find old threads via search, and

2) start a new 77 board that's open to everyone.

(x-post)

It happened at 11AM Finnish time, so that's 9AM British time. I agree that most people probably weren't awake at that hour on a Saturday morning.

77 was open to anyone who asked for an invite.

now it is readable to anyone. if the mods are going to kill it, they should at least render it invisible.
