I don't want to post on the latest clusterfuck thread but could you find out from the DB how many distinct users have posted on that thread as a ratio of all users who have made more than say 20 or 50 posts over the last month.
I'd be interested.

tbh i think ed should be counted in keith's calculations.
what a hilariously self-important twat.

It looks like a huge ratio but then how many irl lawyers are there compared to irl regular doms joes? Lawyers provide a necessary service to the community.
― the innermost wee guy (onimo), Friday, 1 May 2009 23:19 (sixteen years ago)
yeah lawyers getting bad rep imo. imagine a world without lawyers

Sorry, missed this. Pretty complicated to get accurately (well, the second bit if not the first bit), but there are about 40 people on that thread and about 300 regular posters, if that's roughly what you're looking for.
Regular users (rather than posters) is an entirely different thing; however, the system clears out accounts that haven't been logged into for six months, so the 10,000+ that are shown on the front page is pretty accurate, i.e. it doesn't include a bunch of accounts that were registered in 2000 that haven't been touched since then. Maybe I'll try and record this at some point in the future to find out. Best guess is that it'd be ten times posters, so 3,000 or so.
― Keith, Sunday, 3 May 2009 10:25 (sixteen years ago)
Actually the bit about the clearing accounts is wrong; about 4,000 of them are about to get wiped in the next month or two.

i'm not sure if webmail is working. i tried one and after i hit submit i got a white screen. i did a test webmail to myself and i don't think it went through.same thing (white screen) happened the other day when i tried to sb someone but i can sb that person some other time.
― harbl, Tuesday, 8 September 2009 01:55 (sixteen years ago)
i have a hypothesis why though: i know you now can't send webmail if you're banned. i am currently banned from 1p3. maybe you put the webmail restriction on anyone who's banned from any board?
― harbl, Tuesday, 8 September 2009 01:56 (sixteen years ago)
but i can sb that person some other time.

― bamcquern, Tuesday, 8 September 2009 01:57 (sixteen years ago)
dunno if this has been addressed (and i havent seen keith in a while so i assume he's busy - no rush) but i got the same white screen, only mine was after a SB, not a webmail
― dorroughmac (k3vin k.), Monday, 14 September 2009 14:10 (sixteen years ago)
yeah and you're banned from IRE so my hypothesis is still good
― harbl, Monday, 14 September 2009 14:32 (sixteen years ago)
don't remind me :(
but yeah good point

can someone tell me if my suggest ban button is working? i keep having the problem outline above, and since i'm on the way out myself, it's kinda unfair if i'm unable to use it
― k3vin k., Friday, 23 October 2009 04:06 (fifteen years ago)
takin everyone down with you huh
― call all destroyer, Friday, 23 October 2009 04:07 (fifteen years ago)
hey kev, the suggest ban button attached to your posts is working fine, from what i can tell. hope this clears up the issue.
― everybody loves am0n (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 October 2009 04:09 (fifteen years ago)
hi k3v, if you have attempted to SB anyone in the last week it hasn't worked
― undergrad lovers (electricsound), Friday, 23 October 2009 04:12 (fifteen years ago)
ok that's definitely not right then and i think it's only fair that i'm immune to SB's until this is figured out
― k3vin k., Friday, 23 October 2009 15:55 (fifteen years ago)
winky
― k3vin k., Friday, 23 October 2009 15:56 (fifteen years ago)
now that i'm unbanned from 1p3 everything works btw
― harbl, Friday, 23 October 2009 15:57 (fifteen years ago)
We're talking about this now; we'll keep you updated.

FYI: this is being looked into on the technical side. We suspect there is a bug in the code but, until it is checked out, we won't be certain.

hey keith: http://daringfireball.net/2009/11/liberal_regex_for_matching_urls
For example, it will correctly match the URL in the following example lines:
http://foo.com/blah_blahhttp://foo.com/blah_blah/(Something like http://foo.com/blah_blah)http://foo.com/blah_blah_(wikipedia)(Something like http://foo.com/blah_blah_(wikipedia))http://foo.com/blah_blah.http://foo.com/blah_blah/.<http://foo.com/blah_blah><http://foo.com/blah_blah/>http://foo.com/blah_blah,http://www.example.com/wpstyle/?p=364.http://✪df.ws/e7lrdar://1234rdar:/1234x-yojimbo-item://6303E4C1-xxxx-45A6-AB9D-3A908F59AE0Emessage://%3c330e7f8409726r6a4ba78dkf1fd71420c1bf✧✧✧@m✧✧✧.gm✧✧✧.c✧✧%3ehttp://➡.ws/䨹www.➡.ws/䨹<tag>http://example.com</tag>Just a www.example.com link.
― caek, Friday, 27 November 2009 19:04 (fifteen years ago)
Is clever enough to look for a ) if it would match a ( in the URL and not otherwise = would totally be in favour of this (given a bit of testing/scrutiny, obv), neat.
(despite my day job involving the munging of CSV files, often with regexps, I am way too lazy to read other people's, so no scrutiny here)
― subtyll cauillacyons (a passing spacecadet), Friday, 27 November 2009 20:57 (fifteen years ago)
^^^ good regexp ime. is keith still around?
