can you give us a new board or strip the mod privileges from whoever mods "the church"

sorry there is no reason why a perfectly harmless and funny thread like "posts that effortlessly summarize the spirit of ilx" should be locked bcuz they dont fall under the blurry guidelines of that bs board

J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 June 2008 01:34 (seventeen years ago)

or at least stop locking the ask chaki threads please-- we can coexist on your board but this is stupid and w/o those threads your board is going to go the way of ask a drunk w/in a month

J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 June 2008 01:36 (seventeen years ago)

or can a site mod unlock them and move them to 77 or noize? i mean "thread of missing luriqua" is a hilarious thread that absolutely no one has a problem w/ including luriqua

J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 June 2008 01:39 (seventeen years ago)

OTM

Ask Churchi!

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 22 June 2008 01:40 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i agree w/ this im not against the church or anything but those are historical ilx threads

max, Sunday, 22 June 2008 01:46 (seventeen years ago)

here's the deal. the board mods aren't responsible for anything that got moved - only a site-wide mod can do that. AFAIK nobody can move anything to 77 because of the weird private board aspect of it. And I for one am not moving anything to Noise unless JW says it's OK. Unless some other board mod wants to OK moving non-offensive "Ask Chaki" bumps (eye of the beholder, yo, so whatever) to their board, there's nowhere to put them other than Thread Dump.

The Church is not going to be The Church/Ask Chaki, that shit got decided a while ago, and bumping stuff is just going to get it bounced and locked unless someone comes up with a better solution.

John Justen, Sunday, 22 June 2008 01:50 (seventeen years ago)

fwiw the threads that are actually kinda mean can get locked and I won't have a prob with it but "posts that effortlessly summarize" and "thread of missing luriqua" aren't mean

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 22 June 2008 01:50 (seventeen years ago)

aye ok, i wasnt aware that renaming ask chaki the church meant that the board was getting killed altogether, there are like 3-4 threads that i think should be kept alive on ask chaki! and some harmless lol ones that could be started. we all know the rules now, and fwiw tom said the "ask chaki experiment" was going well. im not sure why we can't coexist on the church...

so until someone speaks up, theres nothing anyone is going to do.

J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 June 2008 19:18 (seventeen years ago)

im calling on poster The Reverend-- one of the original vocal backers of a meta board-- to unlock the ask chaki threads in question and set our spirits free

J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 June 2008 19:19 (seventeen years ago)

The only active threads on the Church today are locked "Ask Chaki" threads, looks like there is more of a demand for that than for the new board.

I am using your worlds, Sunday, 22 June 2008 19:34 (seventeen years ago)

the church was created by popular vote.

wrong

ask chaki was RENAMED the church by popular vote

J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 June 2008 19:37 (seventeen years ago)

The vote was pretty close too, suggesting a lot of posters also liked things as they were.

wtf. the sequence of events was: about 0.1% of ilx users voted that a board got its name changed. but apparently "shit got decided a while ago" and all of the old threads got locked/dumped. there was no mandate for this.

i don't think anyone was asking for ask chaki threads to get moved to ITR: but a natty idea would be to have a vote on renaming ITR ask chaki, and then and locking up all the lameness when the sockpuppets win that vote too.

banriquit, Sunday, 22 June 2008 19:50 (seventeen years ago)

the majority still speaks. when a new law or initiative passes in government, the people that voted against it don't get to ignore it. the creation of The Church was to give rev, abbott, etc. their board for religious discussion. in the vote poll, the rev makes the following statement:

I would like to request that if the name of Ask Chaki! is changed to The Church of ILX, that all existing Ask Chaki! treads be locked.

J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 June 2008 20:01 (seventeen years ago)

Remember it was Tom who said that keeping all of the meta threads in a special forum was a good idea, and also Tom who, only a week or so before Pash's "NEW META MOD RULES" came in, said that the meta experiment on Ask Chaki was working. Why should we pay for his mistakes?

Hey look, I'm really sorry for Max and Jordan and the other people who posted regularly on Ask Chaki and were virtually no problem whatsoever, but that board was locked down for good reason and, hey, it's not like there aren't loads of other boards to start threads on. Ask Chaki isn't coming back. It's not the end of the world. Move on.

To the people who in one way or another contributed to that board's demise, by, say, thinking it was hilarious to cut and paste and roffle over posts calling other people paedos by their real name. Well, there's a reason why I for one am not going to take a single one of your complaints seriously ever again. If you have a problem with that, tough shit, you should have thought of that first.

If you are one of the even smaller minority who thinks that the boards are going to deterioate into a puddle of sub-intellectual cuddlestein slop without the mean-spirited contributions of you and your three or four friends, well, I would hate to disbuse you of that notion by actually banning you and letting you see for yourself. Maybe you should stop behaving like one of those Old ILX losers who keeps banging on about how the boards were better when all your friends still posted. Accept change. Move on. And if you don't like it, well, you don't have the slightest bit of say in this as far as I can tell.

If, on the other hand, you are one of the thousands of posters who have done nothing wrong and quite rightly have no interest in any of this, then find, carry on, nothing's actually going to happen.

about 0.1% of ilx users voted that a board got its name changed

Hey nice rhetorical stick there. But on the other hand when Chaki went and freaked out over 51 separate ILX threads, the general response was "yeah whatever, let's point and laugh briefly at this arse, then carry on our conversations". If you're going to bring the overall user base of ILX into this, you're onto a loser because my guess is the vast majority of ILX posters would not even remotely come close to giving a shit if Ask Chaki was permamently deleted, because guess what, only a tiny minority of posters care about this shit in the first place.

Matt DC, Sunday, 22 June 2008 23:29 (seventeen years ago)

that's cool matt but you guyz went about it in a shitty way by doing it via polling instead of just changing it outright

thx for the response though

J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 June 2008 23:36 (seventeen years ago)

People would have complained if it had just been changed outright as well though, that's the problem. Sometimes things like this are basically impossible to call.

Matt DC, Sunday, 22 June 2008 23:39 (seventeen years ago)

Interesting point. Maybe you could illustrate it by showing us some Ask Chaki threads where ILXors cut and pasted posts referring to other people as paedos by their real name. Or maybe you couldn't because C+Ping of gershy posts referring to the Fr*nk K*gan is a paedo were all C+P'd to the noize board and IP3 and never to AC.

I mean, is it that hard for you mods to say "We want to be dicks and delete everything from this forum"? Really? Was it that hard for you when on that ILE thread we asked over and over again "Are you just getting pissy over all C+P threads, or just the ones that victimise certain posters?" for you to say "Actually, it's the former", rather than pretend it was the latter.

Nobody objects to mods being assholes, that's kind of what you're here to do. What we don't like is being constantly lied to, and lied about. That shit is just fucking embarassing, and tbh we expect better of you.

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Sunday, 22 June 2008 23:41 (seventeen years ago)

aside, couldn't you (mods) have maybe mentioned that that was going to be the plan of attack? don't remember it ever being hinted at in either the 'Meta' announcement or the 'Rename "Ask Chaki" poll'

darraghmac, Sunday, 22 June 2008 23:43 (seventeen years ago)

perhaps there is a bord where cherished unoffensive aski chak threads could be moved to on a al la carte basis through the intermediary of a rolling mod request thread known only as "plz move this great ask chaki thread to The Workshy Allstar Teadrinker's Society of North thx"

yeah that's basically my issue here. ask chaki! was never going to last anyway, but, as dom says, but in lighter and more cordial language, if you guys are going to delete a board or whatever why not just say so. don't dick us around w/ shit like "should ask chaki be 'renamed'"

J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 June 2008 23:47 (seventeen years ago)

Dom - you are quite right, they weren't on Ask Chaki, the Non-Creepy Teenpop Thread for example was on Noize. But Ask Chaki was the board that existed specifically for meta chatter and by extension meta bitching and without that, well, what's the point? Every other board had a separate raison d'etre, Ask Chaki didn't.

Incidentally you can consider yourself very lucky to actually get a serious response to that point. What the hell, I've had a good weekend.

Matt DC, Sunday, 22 June 2008 23:47 (seventeen years ago)

Also, THIS SHIT DOESN'T MATTER! LIKE, AT ALL!

Matt DC, Sunday, 22 June 2008 23:48 (seventeen years ago)

it does matter to some of us matt and it's easily explainable. something like "ADMIN: We are deleting Ask Chaki!" probably would've worked

J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 June 2008 23:50 (seventeen years ago)

But if it doesn't matter, why not be open with the ILX posters? This isn't some freemasons shit, this is just politics of messenger bags. As a mod you have, if not a responsibility, then at least some sort of civic duty to let people know what kind of behaviour is accepted of the site as a whole, rather than ad-hoc whimming depending on how hard you hit the freeweights that morning. Help us, help you.

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Sunday, 22 June 2008 23:51 (seventeen years ago)

Seriously, 96.2% of all mod problems could be solved if you just manned up about this stuff and said "You can do this, you can't do this" in black and white, rather than "Eh, you can do this to this poster on this forum if you're that poster".

electricsound, Monday, 23 June 2008 00:04 (seventeen years ago)

I would like to point out that:

a) The only thread I have locked is Dom's "Welcome to the Church" thread, created after the rename.

b) I never wanted The Church to be formed out of Ask Chaki!, and only rashly conceded that point after it became apparent that an entirely new board was not going to happen.

c) When I called for all existing AC! threads to be locked, it was a spur of the moment decision and a mistake. At the same time, I don't want those threads interfering with the present mission of The Church. I would definitely be supportive of an effort to move them to other, more appropriate boards on a case-by-case basis.

btw im sure that the faq used to say that threat of irl violence = grounds for ban?

banriquit, Monday, 23 June 2008 08:43 (seventeen years ago)

I think this is the problem, the FAQ is drastically underwritten. So people are doing things that are banned by the site, and not doing things that are not banned by the site, all because the FAQ doesn't let us know what's going on. I'm pretty sure the mods would rather prevention rather than cure, yes? It makes your job easier.

BUT

Because the FAQ doesn't tell us anything other than that the Jody Rosen I saw in Private Eye isn't the Jody Rosen that posts here, people are going to post meta threads, because the FAQ doesn't say otherwise. Conversely, I've not been posting threats to attack or assault people in threads, because I'd previously assumed promising to violently assault someone would be against the site rules. However, now we know it's OK, I think I may start posting to WDYLL threads again.

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Monday, 23 June 2008 08:58 (seventeen years ago)

Can we at least get a promise from the mods that they'll undertake a review and rewrite of the FAQ? I mean, what's a few hours work now to save endless hours of work in the future? Y'all gotta stop thinking short-term

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Monday, 23 June 2008 09:03 (seventeen years ago)

Using smaller boards or board 77 to plan pranks/raids on the main boards, as in here or here, if it appears to be done with malicous intent.

Sharing logins to run multi-user sockpuppets for baiting people

Helping people who've been banned from the board to register new accounts

Tedious rote responses to certain posters, especially the use of repeated image "zings".

Saved you the effort Ed. Now if you could help us work out how "Thread of missing luriqua" or "Solitary posts that effectively sum up the experience of ILx" fit into any of these, that'd be great.

I think why don't I just say that neither I nor any of the other mods at this point give a fuck what any of you board lawyers say, that you're a bunch of disingenious, obsessive assholes, that you should step back and take a look at yourselves, that we're going to do what the fuck we want for the good of the board as an entirety, not for the benefit of the six or less passive-aggressive cocks who are whining because "oh no drama forum has been taked away from us oh no, let's raise some more juvenile drama about it", and if you don't like it, then fuck off, seriously.
