gr5050, I haven't washed my hands of this quite yet.

The bookmarks request isn't actually easy, since bookmarks don't have their date stored with them, although that depends on what you mean by oldest and newest. So while sorting them is basically easy, not having something to sort them on presents a problem. I don't think this is going to be possible, as it's unrealistic to read all the threads and get their dates when I want to display bookmarks; we'd be back to poxy fule territory.

Nonetheless I have upped the number of bookmarks to something larger than you'll conceivably need.

The other bookmark changes are to remove the "show bookmarks" preference, in favour of just always showing you bookmarks that have had changes made to them, and just not showing the others by default. In addition, when you post on a thread you've bookmarked, it automatically updates the bookmark to your recent post.

I have done admin log. It doesn't record who did it. I look forward to seeing this reduce the noise and everyone being happy bunnies about moderator actions.

All this will be implemented in due course. It will be a big job though, and will take some time, as I need to convert the database to a different type and make upgrades to basically everything.

Dear Keith -

thanks for doing anything ever, let alone tiny requests like "I want more than forty bookmarks at once!"

- love, ILX

Thankyou Flash Gordon. Glad to see you are alive.

Keith, Saturday, 19 July 2008 17:23 (seventeen years ago)

oh keith all i was requesting was that bookmarks arrange so that your most recently bookmarked page is at the top of your page, as opposed to the bottom which is how it works now. not a big deal tho.

Nonetheless I have upped the number of bookmarks to something larger than you'll conceivably need.

awesome.

thanks keith good to hear from you.

Hi Grady, I'm afraid what I've done will probably make the ordering less predictable (though for some good reasons that I'd bore you to tears with by explaining). However, I think it'll be OK, because instead of seeing 40 bookmarks on your screen, you'll just see the ones with new messages, so that's likely to be just a couple at most, so I think it'll be OK. Anyway, you can see how it goes when it turns up.

Cheers.

Thanks again, keith. Great work.

Is the admin log online and working or are we waiting for it to be loaded onto the main site?

Ed, Monday, 21 July 2008 08:26 (seventeen years ago)

No, it's not up -- keith's made a lot of changes, and some of it (new DB format, etc) requires other work on the server as well, so we might have to take it offline for a chunk of time (week or two possibly) to get it all done.

so popcorn time then

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 17:11 (seventeen years ago)

will sandbox still be up?

max, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 17:13 (seventeen years ago)

No, everything will come down -- need to install updates on the server itself.

stet, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 17:36 (seventeen years ago)

outrageous! we all know what 'essential maintenance' means - autocratic modz plan to take entire site offline in order to fit LBZC blocker plugin. This is tyranny, you could at least hold a plebiscite on whether these so-called 'updates' are going to benefit the community enough to justify depriving some of the brightest and best net-citizens of their only contact with the outside world. 1000-posts by morning, all progress will grind to a halt but at least we'll have Democracy!!
