What was the first car you drove?

And other reminiscences of cars long past.

Mine was a white 1972 Ford Pinto. It had been my step-mom's, then my dad's daily driving-to-work car that my sister and I got use evenings and weekends. I had a few minor "incidences" in it without much visible damage, but my sister totaled it in a major intersection after I was off to college.

1977 Jeep J-20 3/4 ton pickup. 401 V8, full-time 4wd, ~10 mi/gallon. Unfuckingstoppable until the front driveshaft broke and destroyed the transmission.

My driving instructor had a dual-control version of this, which had to be made especially. He was an old perve, and used to pick me up straight after school. He'd put the top down and make me drive slowly past all the school girls. Uncomfortable in about a million ways, but good for making sure I never fucking stalled.

lol! i'll be sure to tell my dad... he'll feel vindicated after all the shit we gave him because of that lame car. (though i do have to say that it looks cuter in this picture than i remember it looking then.)

A Cirtoed 2CV. I drove it into a wall on my 1st driving lesson!

Cirtoed? Citroen!

Pashmina, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

When googling for an image, the Volkswagen Fastback should've been my first one.

hello, ILCars ... been meaning to post here for a couple of weeks.

Volkswagen Dasher

WTF is this, then? a cut-down scirocco? a two-door passat?

there's a whole thread in the differences between UK and US models. but for now it can wait.

anyway: first car i ever drove was a 1986 nissan (or were they still datsun? no, surely not) bluebird, like this

http://www.nissanklub.pl/uploads/members_cars/thumbnails/tn_DSC06065.jpg

but with a boot, or like this:

http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/d/d9/200px-1990_Bluebird2.jpg

but without anything interesting about it.

i was 14. i learned to drive properly in a proton saga:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/graphics/2004/10/03/worst8.jpg

and a 1991 nissan micra:

the latter of which is still on the road and has, somehow, just been sold by my father-in-law for 250 of your earth quid. which astonishes me.
