Why would anyone create a Visio network diagram that takes 160 8.5x11 pages to print and which has literally thousands of connectors? Why?
― libcrypt, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 18:51 (seventeen years ago)
comprehensiveness!
― El Tomboto, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 19:58 (seventeen years ago)
but anyway ctrl+a, ctrl+g, shrink that motherfucker down also you can force visio to scale and print to basically whatever size of how many pages you want

Shrinking the doc to any reasonable size would result in massive loss of detail. It's like EVERY SINGLE CABLE in the datacenter is represented on this beast.

Control-A takes like 10 seconds to complete, too.

Captain Telephonic needs to come in and cut the gordian knot.
― libcrypt, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 20:18 (seventeen years ago)
I have seen similarly giant ones but nothing with literally thousands of connectors.
clearly some comic book guy type with a cisco cert was told to chart the datacenter and did exactly as he was told. this is what happens when you loosely define all requirements but one.

Someone in CO apparently needs to have a nice long sit-down with Edmund Tufte.
― libcrypt, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 22:29 (seventeen years ago)
tom did you make that pic?
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 11 March 2008 22:29 (seventeen years ago)
Er, Edward. LA has gotten into my brain.
― libcrypt, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 22:32 (seventeen years ago)
He did and if you read all of ILX as you are tasked you'd KNOW that already duh tom = Visio GOD.
― libcrypt, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 22:33 (seventeen years ago)
I think j0rdan is just making an oblique zing at me for posting it everywhere

Where can I get good network/computing Visio stencils that work in OmniGraffle 5 Pro, or at least I can paste into a diagram and work in OmG 5? Most of the photorealistic Visio ones show up as grey blocks, and any that use WMF/EMF OmG hates. Also, many of the good OmG grafix don't work at all in Visio.
The ones that come with Visio 2003 work well in both, but I need more servers and network devices.
― libcrypt, Thursday, 13 March 2008 20:47 (seventeen years ago)
you need more servers and devices than visio 2003 provides? Uh.
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 13 March 2008 21:16 (seventeen years ago)
you're sure you're using all the server/device stencils they have already?
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 13 March 2008 21:17 (seventeen years ago)
I'm just using Computers and Monitors and Networks and Peripherals. I thought that was pretty much it.
― libcrypt, Thursday, 13 March 2008 21:49 (seventeen years ago)
I did a search on "server" and I don't see anything that looks like 19" mountable hardware, which is what I'd like.
― libcrypt, Thursday, 13 March 2008 21:50 (seventeen years ago)
fuck that search tool. go to file -> shapes and just start adding stencils and seeing what's in there
― El Tomboto, Friday, 14 March 2008 01:40 (seventeen years ago)
Visio has a lot that's pretty cool, but there's a ton that's totally annoying and wrong. All in all, the OmG experience is superior.

I just discovered the snap to geometry pref, which will make life a bit easier.

I mean, why in the hell would you ever WANT a hidden arrowhead?
― libcrypt, Friday, 14 March 2008 03:14 (seventeen years ago)
Er, glue to geometry.

Currently attempting to print this monster on the DesignJet 800.
― libcrypt, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 18:22 (seventeen years ago)
OK, even at this size, I'm going to need a loupe to read the text, which is probably around 4pt.
― libcrypt, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 18:29 (seventeen years ago)
No, I'm wrong. The type is exactly 2.25pt.
― libcrypt, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 18:36 (seventeen years ago)
WHY do there have to be many different common headshells, each wired incompatibly with the others?
― libcrypt, Friday, 30 May 2008 22:30 (seventeen years ago)
And naturally, with no distinguishing markings.
― libcrypt, Friday, 30 May 2008 22:31 (seventeen years ago)
what is a headshell
