that seems like a really great buy it now price

malicious humor victim (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 3 March 2010 04:37 (fourteen years ago) link

I should go to bed before I do, in fact, buy it now.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Wednesday, 3 March 2010 04:39 (fourteen years ago) link

i didnt wanna encourage you any more than i had, but now that buying it now is no longer an option... imo that was a v. v. v. good deal. better even than the merlin extralight thingy the other day (tho the merlin is i think a better frame).

a coworker of mine just got a moots ybb 29er - he went all out on the build kit and asked me for help putting it together. it's a really fun bike to work on, since it's just so goddamned beautiful. on any other frame, i would be mad about the pain in the ass factor of having to disconnect the rear brake hose and feed it through the closed hose guides (and then having to bleed the brake afterward), but the thought of putting zip ties anywhere on that bike just seems like you're defacing it.

huh, that middle-of-the-road chainring on such a cutting edge bike is like a fart in the room.

dur? sugino zen rings are (i thought) among the best you can get. they're like $140 a pop!

super zen imo, NJS KEIRIN LQQK (also about 3x the price iirc)

holy balls those are expensive

well yeah, but as if the owner of a $5k frame would be griping about a $200 upgrade on a chainring!

The rear tyre touching the seat tube can't be great for smooth rolling efficiency.

The bikes I lust after all tend to be stupidly-hip ultra-thin-tubed spare fixed wheel types, which I then hate myself for lusting after.

Mark C, Monday, 10 May 2010 11:48 (fourteen years ago) link

but the wheel isn't touching the seat tube!

It's probably just an optical effect, I agree, but there are bits where the (tiny) gap ebtween the two becomes invisible.

Sigh. No-one's getting my funniez today.

Sat next to a bunch of Ritte team guys at the ToC time trial on Saturday, Ritte bikes kind of boner-inducing:

that is nice

that moots psychlo-x up top is still ultimate boner time to me

cozen, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 14:57 (fourteen years ago) link

belgian natl strip is great, but i don't know if i could do that. also, i remember seeing a cf track frame somewhere that had the "inside the stays and fork" paint accents, which are also on the ritte. i like that look.

establishment man cloggin up ur spills (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 26 May 2010 15:19 (fourteen years ago) link

that ritte is just fucking wow...

_▂▅▇█▓▒░◕‿‿◕░▒▓█▇▅▂_ (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 26 May 2010 15:22 (fourteen years ago) link

the paul smith/rapha road bike from condor uk had those accents you describe.

you guys know the UCI banned the Ritte for being too beautiful right?

gbx, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 23:14 (fourteen years ago) link

it should be, it really should be banned.

when i think of all the crap or unimaginative paint jobs out there, and then i see THAT, i just wonder how the rest fail so badly.

establishment man cloggin up ur spills (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 26 May 2010 23:33 (fourteen years ago) link

canyons rock that 'inside fork/stays' look too. black ones have orange, matt lloyd's big pharma-lotto team one at the giro has the aussie national champion colours!

pretty wicked-lookin black bianchi 928 SL w/ campy everything at a cafe i passed at lunch. looked like dude had ridden it HARD too, which is as it should be.

Anyone have any suggestions for a DIY kit bike? It doesn't have to be especially light, but it should be very sturdy. A flip-flop hub is a plus. I want something just for commuting, even if it's not fast or even much fun. And I also want to learn more about how to fix my bikes by building one. Same way I learned how to maintain a server. :)

Eighteen straight. I think that's a record. (kenan), Monday, 7 June 2010 04:12 (fourteen years ago) link

maybe get a frame like a salsa casseroll - steel road bike frame, not mega-racey or anything, has slider dropouts at the back so you could just run it as a single-speed at first and upgrade it with a geared drivetrain down the track if you wanted to. eyelets for mudguards and racks. versatile!

if it's any consolation i kinda lusted after the version with the mudguards when i saw it at the shop.

funnily enough the bianchi '11 range was previewed last week, shasta what do you think of the new range-topper? think i like the look of the current one more!

yeah, the 2010 line is probably the dopest of the newer Bianchi colorways/looks.

Unfortunately I have a 2009.

The 2010 version of my model looks so much nicer (more like the 928 SL). I would be more T_T but I rated looks/brand pretty low on my WANT priorities.

only if you put immense risers on it though, maybe ape hangers. most fixie d-bags have never spent more than 10 seconds in the drops.
