parked my bike next to this guy at a restaurant last night. saw the guy exiting and came out to talk to him about it. he made it himself. so amazing. he's not even a bike maker, he's a chef (shasta, he cooks for blvd). said he wanted some really fancy british bike (that starts with H, forget the name) and instead of paying 3-4k, decided he'd make it himself. he went to RISD and had background w/tooling, so just read up and went for it.

the only truffuluther on ilx (gbx), Monday, 18 October 2010 21:29 (fourteen years ago)

Damn indeed.

I was riding with a guy I hadn't ridden with before, a Taiwanese American. His folks are friends with some who works at the factory where BMC and Easton, among others, get their stuff made. He was riding what he described as a tradefair bike, one they make to show off their capabilities to the likes of Easton and BMC, At first I thought it was carbon but it was in fact Scandium and had the neatest welds imaginable. Must try and get a picture because it looks fantastic.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Monday, 18 October 2010 21:30 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, that Ritte is Taiwanese, too, I think.

Really like the classic look of the frame. All we need is someone to do curly carbon lugs.

Oh that IS nice. I love green, and I really fancy a bit of belt drive action.

Mark C, Friday, 19 November 2010 18:04 (fourteen years ago)

Oh, that reminds me, guys - I need to get my Bob Jackson Vigorelli resprayed after it gets repaired, so what colours do we all think would look good? I have trad metal track pedals and quill stem and bars etc, and standard metal box section wheels rather than any deep V monstrosity.

I'm not sure if they don't just have really tall customers but they seem to like really tall head tubes there.

look at the bb lug, it is amazing, had to accommodate teardrop downtube. this frame is like a unicorn to me.

doubt this'll work but:

ok so i'm pimping this guy's stuff cuz he's a friend of friends, but dang it's nice

apparently the tubing is "TT- Shovel handle DT- support beam off a horse trailer, ST- Columbus SL, HT- section of a late 90's Nashbar Mag Trainer. The chain and seat stays are Deda Replica Zero and part of an old chair, respectively. "

lights out gorilla rodeo (haitch), Thursday, 30 December 2010 09:15 (fourteen years ago)

gbx- is that tubing list for real? i mean, part of an old chair and shovel? granting that the alleged metallurgical properties claims for many bikes is pretty useless, this seems pretty silly. part of an old chair is probably not even cro-moly ("mild steel")?

I will probably be on something similar in the next few months.

you are not likely to be disappointed! i know the whole 'stiff but compliant' marketing talk is pretty cliche at this point but it really lived up to the hype for me.

they were going to let me take a Di2 tarmac out as well but 36deg celsius heat had me retiring to the drinks tent, heh.

Decorative filagree lugs on carbon bikes is pretty damn silly IMO.

sous les paves, Wednesday, 12 January 2011 04:34 (fourteen years ago)

On a less crabby note, I'm finding it very hard not to buy one of the BMCs that Competitive Cyclist has on sale (40% off on a bunch of em!) right now...:(

sous les paves, Wednesday, 12 January 2011 04:36 (fourteen years ago)

Do it, I love my BMC.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Wednesday, 12 January 2011 13:30 (fourteen years ago)

Am kind of hoping that Evans still have some knocked down streetfires in my size when I'm next eligible for ride to work. Am supposed to be getting a cheap pub bike but...... They're so pretty.....

problem chimp (Porkpie), Wednesday, 12 January 2011 22:09 (fourteen years ago)

Ah, but Chris, if you get a Streetfire then the Felt *becomes* the cheap pub bike :)

Mark C, Thursday, 13 January 2011 16:51 (fourteen years ago)

i want a proper mountain bike, i've not had one in 8 years. i want dual sus, but i won't ride a bike over 26 lbs. been looking, but i can't justify the $ req'd for that. grrrr.

its clavicula, the vampire crankset that lusts for your blood. when the chainring folds or the crankarm snaps, you break your clavicle and bleed everywhere, thus sating the ghoulish desires of the undead.
