Just 268 miles for April (compared to well over 400 in the previous two Aprils). Rubbish month: the weather and health were not on my side.

305 miles for April. Just starting to extend my commutes for fun. First Friday Night Ride on 1st June (you ever thought about doing one, NBS?).

So far for 2012:
Activity count: 42Total distance: 308.42 milesTotal ride time: 19:59:28Avg. Distance: 7.34 milesAvg. Ride Time: 28:34Avg. Speed: 15.43 mph
This is basically commuting back and forth to work. The weather's finally changing for good here so I plan to do a lot more and longer rides. I'm signed up for the Bike MS Pedal to the Point ride in August (150 miles/2 days) and I may sign up for the NYC Century in September.

It is unnatural, you're right, and I used to think as you do. Then I gave it a go. It does have a real charm to it, honest!
― Mark C, Thursday, 3 May 2012 21:48 (thirteen years ago)
Tonight's may be interesting... Standing water in a lot of places, deep water at buttsbury ford (you may have spotted cav wading in it this week). Am looking at big overshoes and sealskinz socks. Should be fantastic.

Good luck you two. Where are you riding to this time - are you heading anywhere Cavendish's lake? I wasn't working today so went off up into the Essex lanes (56 miles) - there was indeed a lot of surface water and the occasional section of road that had turned into a stream or pond. Also - it's cold. I had to wear winter tops and a gillet in the end. I set off (foolishly) in shorts, but ended up riding to my nearest bike shop and buying some leg warmers. I got a rear wheel puncture at the 41-mile mark in the rain, which wasn't fun to sort out. Then literally as soon as I got back on the bike the chain came off and I had to sort that out.
It's not just the riding in the countryside in the pitch black bit about these night rides that fails to attract me. It's the fact it's at night time, when I'd rather be sleeping. But I'll try to hook up with you two for some kind of (daylight) ride at some point, if I can overcome the large obstacle that is most of London between us.
― Pacific Trash Vortex (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Friday, 4 May 2012 16:21 (thirteen years ago)
Tonight's was supposed to be just me (and the regulars) but I managed to pick up a bug from Vic and don't want to be too far from home iyswim... So I'm hopefully going to go to Brighton on Sunday morning along with a bunch of veteran HGVs. Riding at night in the countryside is very liberating, strong lights definitely required but it's truly great.
― problem chimp (Porkpie), Friday, 4 May 2012 18:58 (thirteen years ago)
Oh, and they're going through, or past buttsbury ford. I can send you a gps of last year if you want?
― problem chimp (Porkpie), Friday, 4 May 2012 18:59 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah, why not
― Pacific Trash Vortex (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Friday, 4 May 2012 21:25 (thirteen years ago)
when I'd rather be sleeping
Again, I 100% agree BUT occasionally it's worth doing something outside your comfort zone. And this is one of those times. Riding in the dark countryside is awesome, when you're in a group, and have a half-decent light.
― Mark C, Friday, 4 May 2012 22:06 (thirteen years ago)
315 miles for May. Still below average, though I did have some lovely town riding last weekend in the sunshine. And tomorrow's night ride to Whitstable will kick off June with a handy 80 mile boost.

Record-breaking July for me: 524 miles. This also includes my new record for a week: 224 miles (not counting a few cycling holidays when I was a teenager when I probably did more than this).
Garmin stats:Count: 17 ActivitiesDistance: 521.29 miTime: 30:53:13 h:m:sElevation Gain: 6,397 m (or 20,987 feet if you prefer)Avg Speed: 16.9 mph
However, it's even better than that because I didn't ride until 5th July so I can keep adding to that total until Saturday to get a 'month' - at the moment I'm on 592 miles for the last 30 days so I should be able to bump that over the 600-mark.
I'm very pleased with that, but my mind boggles when I realise that Krakow does double this every month on a unicycle riding up Ben Nevis in the snow.

Topped it. Now at 720 miles for the last 30 days; 224 for this week (so far); 325 for this month so far (which would get me well over 900 for the whole month if I carried out at that rate). Will be off the bike for about a fortnight shortly, though.

I can probably scrape together 100km if I include bike share rides in London and Melbourne, a ride to the DMV, going to work and a jaunt to a pub near cambridge. I have already nearly done that much this weekend.

Strava has me at 3353km on the road, heavily weighted to the back end of the year, over 3000km June to the end. There's probably ~5000km including riding on the trainer which doesn't count but sets me a nicely attainable goal of 5000km on the road for the 2013.
