I guess dude can use his arm warmers if his belt snaps. Spot frames are pretty nice aren't they?

There's a Dura-ace equipped Focus on Wiggle for under a grand (though it's not the one I'm lusting after obv, it's cheapness makes it terribly non-U dearie)

Oh crap, that Rivendell shit is awesome. I am totally going to be one of those "steel is real" people with a straight top tube and a little leather-trimmed saddlebag. Pls to pay slightly more attention to bike than you to do head-badge, tho!

AH, i wanted to post the spot belt drive. i did some work for gates (maker of the belts used) this summer and kept trying to find a way to find someone who could hook me up with a proto bike. i want a belt drive w/ internal 8 hub it would be bliss.
yall have good taste in bikes that ant(?) is gorgeous.
someone needs to tell moots to ditch toptube fder routing its bogus and adds a part nobody wants-the seattube pully.

I love how Lightweight manage to be the creme de la creme in their field while making a wheel that looks like Hunter age 3 designed it and using a font you find on wedding invitations.
Tell me why titanium bikes are rad?

TITANIUM = LIGHT + STRONG(ISH)

I meant the "prettay" bike, but yeah.
― Super Cub, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 17:28 (sixteen years ago) link
Yeah I don't even like slopped top tubes. I just thought it was handsome. Also I have never ridden on a ti frame. AND i know i will never ever ride on a pair of lightweights ;__;

Three triangles is like the platonic form of bike frames and I don't appreciate these smart-ass attempts to try and one-up it.

― sleep, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 15:14 (sixteen years ago) link
ha i looked at it and went 'those lugs are IMPOSSIBLE' and sure enough, the frame is not lugged, they are 'decorative laminations.' cant get with that particular feature, but its an interesting frame.

hey guys, does this look like an okay bike? or this, for the price?
― Jordan, Thursday, 10 January 2008 22:06 (sixteen years ago) link
Those are two really different kinds of bikes. What are you looking for?
― Super Cub, Thursday, 10 January 2008 23:40 (sixteen years ago) link
i just want a solid bike that i can take for long rides in town/on trails. i've never ridden fixed gear but it appeals to me, i was never much for adjusting my gears anyway. also it can't have those stupid drop handlebars.
― Jordan, Thursday, 10 January 2008 23:53 (sixteen years ago) link
I am not sure how they're measured but 19 inches is a LOT less than 60cm. How tall are you? The first bike is for like 6'2" or so.
― Mark C, Friday, 11 January 2008 00:04 (sixteen years ago) link
oh shit, i was wondering about that. i'm 5'9"ish.
― Jordan, Friday, 11 January 2008 00:05 (sixteen years ago) link
what size frame do i want?
Going back to Condors for a sec - what do people in the know really think of them? Are they genuinely great bikes? Or style over substance? Are there any obvious downsides?
― Mark C, Friday, 11 January 2008 00:06 (sixteen years ago) link
It depends on the bike and it depends on your inseam, but maybe 54.
xp

You'd want to put some brakes on that badboy though.
― Super Cub, Friday, 11 January 2008 00:14 (sixteen years ago) link
Oh wait, it's got drops. You could swap those out real easy and for not much money.
― Super Cub, Friday, 11 January 2008 00:18 (sixteen years ago) link
That looks like a cool site, thx!
― Jordan, Friday, 11 January 2008 00:40 (sixteen years ago) link
hmm, that seems like a good deal. is that a good deal? i have no idea what makes a good frame or about any of the components
― sleep, Friday, 11 January 2008 00:53 (sixteen years ago) link
The general consensus about Bikedirect bikes is that the frames are nice and the components are decent. It's definetely a good deal. The Kilo TT is also much beloved, and the Hour is actually the same frame as the Fuji Track (http://fujibikes.com/2008/bikes.asp?id=418) and the Kilo TT apparently has the same frame as a KHS Flite (http://www.khsbicycles.com/05_flite_100_08.htm) and a nice fork. All of these bikes are made at the same factory in Taiwan.
― Super Cub, Friday, 11 January 2008 04:57 (sixteen years ago) link
Actually the KHS Flite and the Kilo TT have different geometries, so it must be the same frame as an older model Flite
― Super Cub, Friday, 11 January 2008 05:32 (sixteen years ago) link
thanks!
― sleep, Friday, 11 January 2008 16:53 (sixteen years ago) link
I think Condor is pretty good really. I've test ridden a few and their frames are really well put together. Possibly they are a bit over priced (the style factor and the central london store probably account for some of that). I'm probably not the best judge though.
― Ed, Sunday, 13 January 2008 18:47 (sixteen years ago) link
Thanks Ed. I haven't test ridden any, but since I have SO little to compare them to I wonder if it would make any difference. I guess now that I'm beginning to toy with the idea of actually buying a nice bike, I should work out what discernible difference it would make from my Trek 1200, because a worthwhile upgrade is going to be at least in the £1500 region and I'm not rich enough to spend that much without having a pretty good idea why.
― Mark C, Sunday, 13 January 2008 19:43 (sixteen years ago) link
Check out Geoffrey Butler down in croydon to compare with Merckx and DeRosa, On Your Bike in London Bridge to try LeMonds and Mosquito in Islington for Colnago and Pegoretti. There's a new shop on upper richmond rd called prologue, which I know nothing about, but they are selling Litespeed.
Quite frankly, mark, you of all people ought to be riding an italian bike.
― Ed, Monday, 14 January 2008 10:00 (sixteen years ago) link
(Mosquito also do Moots and Independent Fabrication so you might get something really lustful to ogle at)
― Ed, Monday, 14 January 2008 10:01 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah my objection is not the visual aesthetic, that seattube 'lug' is nice.
i do think the aesthetic of a 1 1/8 stem clamp over a 44mm headtube continues to be bad.
― the times recommends: gluten-free dining in italy! (Hunt3r), Sunday, 6 July 2014 13:12 (ten years ago) link
Definitely agree on that one, I'm not sure tapering the tube would make it much better.
― American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Sunday, 6 July 2014 13:19 (ten years ago) link
I'm also not entirely sure what the whole tapered steerer thing is supposed to achieve, test theres a bigger crown race but I've never hear a complaint about the load bearing capacity or longevity of a 1 1/8th inch crown race
― American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Sunday, 6 July 2014 13:21 (ten years ago) link
I now have a ti bike with a 1" hs, and a carbon cx with a pretty massive 1.5/1.25 hs, and while the dif is apparent in riding I don't think it's due to control or precision issues on the road. Imo. On dirt I like the os headset though. Longevity? My 97 Chris King 1" is flawless still.
