― sleep, Sunday, 28 October 2007 06:24 (seventeen years ago) link
Built up the nexus wheel yesterday, assembled bike until 2 am. OK, with the rubber on, that rear wheel weighs 6 lbs 10 oz. Also, Alex Adventurer rims are wiiide.

nice
― cutty, Sunday, 28 October 2007 17:58 (seventeen years ago) link
Thx. Just put 15 miles on it into work, with pannier. I'm not used to a bike that slack. It's got a lot of wheel flop. But at speed, a cadillac ride.
I'm wondering if I should take off the Redline fork and put the stock one on. They measure the same tho, same crown height, maybe the stock has a tiny bit less rake. dunno.

― NickB, Monday, 29 October 2007 09:10 (seventeen years ago) link
Those are really nice, cutty. xposts- No built-in tensioner. And of course, as a bolt axle noob, I pulled the wheel over on the way into work today, so I was loose chained and brakeless most of the way in. I thot I knew waht 300 in-lbs felt like. I think the robroy deal is frameset for like a buck sixty?
― Hunt3r, Monday, 29 October 2007 15:35 (seventeen years ago) link
Both my internal bikes have had semi-horiz drops for getting the chain pulled tight...? Both are/were old, though, I dunno what new ones are doing.
― Laurel, Monday, 29 October 2007 16:09 (seventeen years ago) link
Hahah I worked out some kind of contortion involving clamping the back tire in my knees while I braced the frame with one hand and tightened the nuts with the other. Bike upside-down, natch.

do i buy this for bike-wrenching class? seems a BIT much at $250

The only wrench I could buy in a 5 block radius is a 6" adjustable. Downtown: bereft of hardware. AFAIK.
― Hunt3r, Monday, 29 October 2007 19:05 (seventeen years ago) link
I have so many of those crappy adjustables (well, like three) from being out and needing one unexpectedly. I started just keeping one of the cheapies in my bag.
― Laurel, Monday, 29 October 2007 19:10 (seventeen years ago) link
i used to keep one in my bag, but now it has gone missing. which is fine, actually, since my hubs are strong testimony for why using an adjustable wrench to get yr wheels on and off is really a terrible idea in the long run
― gbx, Monday, 29 October 2007 19:56 (seventeen years ago) link
do they round the bolt or su'in? what do i get? SKOOLME PLZ
