cutty, Thursday, 18 October 2007 20:58 (seventeen years ago)

Silky smooth, bro.

Laurel, Thursday, 18 October 2007 20:59 (seventeen years ago)

it's not the shaving that scares me, it's the upkeep

cutty, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:00 (seventeen years ago)

Slap some body lotion on and wet the razor for standing trims. (Rinse out the blade every few strokes.) Otherwise you can go the full shower/bath exfoliation, shaving-cream etc route but it's best saved for special occasions.

Laurel, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:06 (seventeen years ago)

candles and incense?

cutty, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:07 (seventeen years ago)

Always an option.

Laurel, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:07 (seventeen years ago)

i did this when i was triathlete. coach (multiple IronMan champion) said it was not so much for aerodynamics but for psychological advantage (no feeling of wind in leg hair) and also for cleaner wound clean-up (??).

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:09 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, that last is what I've heard. Scrubbing out gravel and sticking big adhesive pads over leg hair is just adding insult to injury.

Laurel, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:11 (seventeen years ago)

It's knowing where to stop that would bother me. Do you stop at your shorts? Your pants? Further? Eww...

NickB, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:11 (seventeen years ago)

STOLEN FROM ANOTHER SITE.

a five year old boy walks into the bathroom and catches his father shaving his legs
the boys is shock and asks his father why he is shaving his legs
the man calmly answers... why am I shaving my legs? because I am a mountain biker and some cyclists like to shave their legs

at the same time down the block another small boy walks into the bathroom and catches his father shaving his legs
this boy is also shocked and asks his dad why he is shaving his legs
the father calmly responds-why am I shaving my legs? because I am a cyclist and some cyclist shave their legs
the boy pauses and then asks... now why is there a man in your bed
and the man answers... because I am a roadie

ddb, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:12 (seventeen years ago)

it's well known that cutty sports a boyzillian.

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:13 (seventeen years ago)

steve shasta was.....a triathlete?

i've heard the wound clean-up thing for mountain bikers. hair can have dirt/yuck on it, and get into wounds. but if the wound serious enough that just washing it thoroughly isn't gonna be enough, then you probably had someone debride it for you anyway, so the reasoning seems a little weak.

xposts oh n/m

cutty, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:15 (seventeen years ago)

it's the thought that counts.

apparently dude had to walk 10 miles out. WHOOPS.

gbx, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:17 (seventeen years ago)

sounds like the time i had to rescue ddb with a broek collarsbone

cutty, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:18 (seventeen years ago)

Fireman-carry not so helpful when arms and legs drag on the ground.

Laurel, Thursday, 18 October 2007 21:21 (seventeen years ago)

so if I take up cycling will noisers stop giving me shit for this

Curt1s Stephens, Friday, 19 October 2007 03:34 (seventeen years ago)

If I had to guess? No.

Laurel, Friday, 19 October 2007 03:48 (seventeen years ago)

haha, definitely not

gbx, Friday, 19 October 2007 04:20 (seventeen years ago)

When I first arrived at Senior/Secondary/High school having been on a cycle touring summer camp. I proudly announced that I had shaved my legs over the summer r(which I hadn't) because I had been cycling with (and idolising) this junior road racer on the camp. I didn't live that down in 5 years of school.

Ed, Friday, 19 October 2007 13:21 (seventeen years ago)

It's knowing where to stop that would bother me. Do you stop at your shorts? Your pants? Further? Eww...

Is one actually allowed to compete in events naked? Also, think of yr eyebrow drag factor.

Mark C, Monday, 22 October 2007 13:36 (seventeen years ago)

one month passes...

i am bored so i think i will shave my legs today

cutty, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 16:35 (seventeen years ago)

ok i did it

cutty, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 18:49 (seventeen years ago)

Did it take two hours?

caek, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 18:53 (seventeen years ago)

yes

cutty, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

strange, to do this in the cold weather when no one but your girlfriend will be able to appreciate it.

ian, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 19:38 (seventeen years ago)

Cutty has a girlfriend?

Laurel, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 19:38 (seventeen years ago)

doesn't he?

ian, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 19:42 (seventeen years ago)

hell no

cutty, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 19:45 (seventeen years ago)

my calves are exposed in the cold weather all the time, 3/4 knickers son

cutty, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 19:45 (seventeen years ago)

So you're gaining what, .02 sec/mile?

dan m, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 19:56 (seventeen years ago)

not even

cutty, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 19:58 (seventeen years ago)

steve shasta was.....a triathlete?

events:

denim-washing
sushi-tasting
wakeboarding (obv)

max, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 20:03 (seventeen years ago)

Girlfriends don't put up with teetotaling, energy gels, and getting up at 5.30 to make too much noise on the trainer.

Laurel, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 20:03 (seventeen years ago)

Unless they're fitness chix, which...hence the obsession.

Laurel, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 20:04 (seventeen years ago)

as per my original post, it feels faster.

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 20:04 (seventeen years ago)

so crutis, why do you shave your legs?

Lingbert, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

laurel understands me so well

cutty, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

as per my original post, it feels faster.

also it's a shame to hide my calves from the world with hair

cutty, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 20:18 (seventeen years ago)

Ahahah my second reason was going to be "highlights calf definition".

Laurel, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 20:18 (seventeen years ago)

I mean, that's why I do it.

Laurel, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 20:19 (seventeen years ago)

And there was me thinking you did it for 1/100ths

Ed, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 20:51 (seventeen years ago)

the best reason for doing it is why the pros do it-they take a lot of massage from their soigneurs and physios. MUCH NICER. also it does make debridement nicer. it does feel faster. some chix do dig it. it does feel surpisingly nice on the sheets when you flop into bed. have a very hard time believing its faster.

i wont do it unless im officially racing/training (meaning more than, say, 5 events on the sched). too much time/pia. i do know a guy (who was really fast in his day) who still does it to feel younger or something. i say bullshit to that.

Hunt3r, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 21:09 (seventeen years ago)

is it a good method to shave up to the area where shorts would start? cause that's what i did, it looks ridiculous though!

cutty, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 21:16 (seventeen years ago)

yes thats right.

we once almost convinced a dumbass to shave up to and including his nutsack. claimed it lessens infection/saddlesores.

Hunt3r, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 21:26 (seventeen years ago)

he mighta been having us on tho. nobodys that dumb i hope

Hunt3r, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 21:27 (seventeen years ago)

The ingrown hairs alone would probably be a BITCH.

Laurel, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 21:28 (seventeen years ago)

lesson learned: shave with the grain to prevent ingrowns

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 21:53 (seventeen years ago)

i will never do this

gbx, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 01:09 (seventeen years ago)

'snever made a difference which way for me, against is easier to do. its the first time of the season that sucks so bad. you gotta have clippers. ive done the first cut with just a bic tho.

Hunt3r, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 01:46 (seventeen years ago)

i always assumed women did against all the time?

cutty, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 03:37 (seventeen years ago)

Yep.

Laurel, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 03:45 (seventeen years ago)

Think I'm going to start shaving my legs again, for teh summer. i has a ladys shaver somewhere.

I feel like such a noob when riding in a bunch with hair.

W4LTER, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 22:04 (seventeen years ago)

i like dropping leg shavers because i remember how aghast i was if some hairy legged bastard dropped me. the number of people i can do this to is ever dwindling as my waistline is ever increasing.

yes im not very mature

Hunt3r, Thursday, 29 November 2007 00:58 (seventeen years ago)

numba wasn't ever that high either

Hunt3r, Thursday, 29 November 2007 01:06 (seventeen years ago)

ITT Hunt3r is killing me.

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 29 November 2007 02:03 (seventeen years ago)

i mean i have not raced competitively in many, many years but what he described in such a short space conjoured up so much memory, emotion, and yes, instinct as well... it's all pretty hilarious.

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 29 November 2007 02:17 (seventeen years ago)

quit yappin and start training you old farts

TRADITION. Also dudes will paint a target on your back just because you don't. You're best defense is camouflage imho. Slip away only to be forgotten about.

_▂▅▇█▓▒░◕‿‿◕░▒▓█▇▅▂_ (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 20:00 (fourteen years ago)

you still havent shaved your legs dude... smdh

cutty, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 21:40 (fourteen years ago)

Upside: looks good when cycling
Downside: looks weird to the wider public (which includes friends and family)

I Ain't Committing Suicide For No Crab (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 22:38 (fourteen years ago)

honestly it was this thread that made me MORE weirded out about bike shaving (iirc) just because apparently it ends where the bibs begin? am i remembering that correctly (too lazy to scroll)?

having man-hair negative-image biker shorts would a) be kinda hilarious and b) sorta creepy?

be told and get high on coconut (gbx), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 23:25 (fourteen years ago)

i shave the entire leg. however i use a buzzer for the area where the bibs start.

cutty, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 23:42 (fourteen years ago)

Tops of feet, y/n? Having smooth legs makes the feet look hobbit-like. I have few enough hairs I could probably pluck em, but...no.
