Cycle 2 Work

(Sorry American chums, I think this is UK-only specific)

I was perusing the Wiggle website (top marks for the service I got when buying my trainer online) and I came upon the "Cycle 2 Work" scheme they run. Have a look at the terms - it seems a pretty good deal. Has anyone taken advantage of it yet? Is anyone intending to?

I notice the potential downside is that it is restricted to bikes (+ accessories) totalling £1,000 or less.

is RRP like MSRP?

like, Recommended Retailer Price or something?

anyway, yeah, america does not, as far as i know, have schemes like this. however, i did hear of a courier in canada who successfully wrote off all his groceries for a year because his job required that he eat more than the average person.

there's quite a few places that run it Mark, including at the crap end - evans, to say, on one/planet x

Yes, Sarah's work run it (or something similar) via Evans. My company don't run one at all, as far as I know, so if I set one up then it would be somewhere decent.

On the plus side, if you do buy a bike above a grand then you can still get the benefits up to a grand, then you have to pay the balance yourself. So we're still saving close to £500. Maybe that Condor isn't entirely out of my reach...

two months pass...

Anyone had any experience of buying through Cyclescheme? Is this just a new name for Cycle 2 Work, or is it just a different version of the same thing? My work seem to have quietly signed up for it. Cyclescheme's supplier range seems a bit smaller - places like Ribble and Planet-X don't seem to be available, and neither is Halfords who I think can usually order such bikes. Condor are in though, as are most (if not all) of the London shops.

Cycle scheme is a repackaging of cycle to work to make it easier for employers.

Ahh, ok. Thanks. I'll do some more investigating. Not sure I can really afford a new bike, but then mine's pretty knackered, and I'd be annoyed if my bike just stopped working (I know. TS: basic maintenance/servicing vs oh noes my bike is in 5 pieces, or one solid piece where nothing moves). I guess I don't have to buy an expensive ride, but then the more you spend the more you save, or something. If I was going to buy a new bike I doubt I'd spend more than £400 or so, so I can work backwards from there and get something considerably better. But then I'll nearly be in £1,000 bike area, and it's only a few pounds more a month. Gah. Too confusing.

Bocken, doesn't 2nd hand sort out that problem for you? I might have a Trek 1200 for sale sometime soon...
