I read somewhere once that if you cycle to work every day in London you should only get rained on about 12 days a year. Kinda chimes with my experience.

I voted weekly. Much more than that in winter though. That's Glasgow for you though.

I often don't ride to work if it's raining. I don't mind riding home so much as I can get cosy and allow my bike stuff to dry overnight, but I hate having to ride home at the end of the day in saturated gussets and shoes.

what is gusset?

Booker van Permalink (Hunt3r), Thursday, 23 October 2008 16:34 (sixteen years ago)

I only have a one-mile commute, so I wear my work clothes when I cycle to work (except for my shoes). Because of this, I don't cycle if I know it's going to rain, as I'd just have to spend a day at work as a human puddle (possibly in saturated gussets).

I don't really care if it rains when I'm out on a proper ride.

Bah, you're all very lucky. 'Monthly'! 'Quarterly'! I wish.

I live in a tropical climate, so I get rained on (showered on really) pretty often. Usually I'm completely dried out in a couple of minutes though.

On the way home from work today I had to ride through two flooded bits of road where the water level was above BB height. It's been raining solidly for nigh on 24 hours here.

it's supposed to snow here tomorrow

fenders on the wheels, shorts on the legs, a visor on the head, and a merry tune to hum.

An excellent solution, at least when the rain is largely vertical and not bone-numbingly cold.

Sometimes cycling in really awful weather can be so stupidly ridiculous that it becomes funny - realising how crazy it is to be cycling about, particularly in shorts say, in such terrible weather. I can remember a couple of instances in the last few months where I've started spontaneously chuckling to myself as the weather somehow managed to take a seemingly impossible turn for the worse. That's quite a freeing feeling of relief, allowing me to enjoy the rest of the ride, willing the weather to do its worst.

someone should modify one of those expedition-style pee bags and rig it so that yr pee circulates around yr feet before evacuation. waste not want not!

positraction is #1 reason for fixed gear bicycle in the winter times
